I just hold/tap air roll left or right(depending which side the ball is on) while 45 degree flicking. You can also go further than 45 for more power.

i say the opposite of everyone else chase the ball more or you'll get cooked and out 50'd, boost decides the game at high level you will take shot and steal boost fight even over small pad. one with more momentum will win 50s and challenges. you only have to beat one person, get a sense of when you are closer and can beat them and don't hesitate. make sure you can recover to get back and cut them off after shooting. focus on getting over and past them instead of reciting a mechanic like freeplay. watch opponents car so you can see whether they have a threat to hit it past you or not, if they can't get it past you then don't give them any space or let them get any boost for free.

practice kickoff you can lose or win off of that alone.

listen just roll the ball up the wall and follow it closely but don't push it, hit it low on the wall where it turns transparent hard and straight on with the nose of your car, try to get it high near the ceiling and not too angled more straight. tap the brake and stop boosting just for a second then jump. then hit the underside of the ball don't push it from the side in the air. the rest it is just practicing flying around with directional air roll and controlling your car which takes a long time and much practice to get good.
