Sorry for being late but I had experience the same glitch but instead of a soft-lock the game thought I was done with the boss and show the victory results screen and made me skip the whole boss fight.
I was also playing the switch version.

You landed on the star card, which is in a specific spot which happens to be in that area
if you miss it, you get softlocked (unless its possible to get back in bounds through some bizarre movement around the level)

How in the name of all that's even remotely holy on Avalice did that happen?! I too play on the Switch version and that never happened to me even once!
