#compromised account + do I trust this recovery email

Hello my account was compromised by a russian man and I guess he put his email onto my microsoft account making it impossible for me to get back, but I sent a request to recover my microsoft account and it's been flagged for being a phishing email do I trust it?

Also is there any way aside from sending a recovery request to get my account back? Or am I screwed.

I suggest you contact Microsoft through their live chat. Use Xbox' website to avoid going in circles.

With that said, keep your expectations very low. Once you're phished they tend to add 2FA making it tremendously hard to retrieve if not impossible.

so if that doesn't work do I just reinstall windows and close my account so they can't do anything with it?

The likely outcome is a suspension, so you can push for that yes.

If you did get infected, a reinstall with a USB is recommended

also it doesn't look like the hacker enabled 2FA unless im tripping of course

I can still reset my account password but then it'll say the password is incorrect when I put in the password I literally just reset

or even it asks me to verify by sending a code but when I type that code in it says "Something went wrong"
