I am just trying to watch some simple youtube but my computer has been lagging a lot every time I try to watch a video. So naturally I take a glance at task manager and almost as soon as I open a Youtube tab the CPU percentage shoots straight up to 100% and stays there. I'm on an oldish HP laptop, its nothing fancy but it should DEFINATLY be able to run Youtube I mean come on, a phone can do it. (I am VERY new to windows and my knowledge is very limited)
#High CPU strain from Youtube?

hmm do you have hardware acceleration disabled in your browser?
probably not? how would i be able to check that
okay here! go to the 3 dots you will see on the top right, now scroll down to see the 'settings', after clicking the settings, head down to open up the 'system' option in google settings-
Now from there, you will see the 'Use graphic accelerating when available' option!
awesome thank you
You wellcome!
its already on
maybe my computer just sucks, i feel like it should still be able to do youtube without buffering though
Newer videos primarily use the av1 codec which depending on how old the laptop is might cause that 🤔
Also buffering can come from low internet speed
Well as I previously stated I checked task manager and cpu usage skyrockets so I don’t think its my internet
Which specs does this HP have? I mainly want to know:
- CPU
- RAM capacity
- Graphics card (which is likely built into the CPU)
I imagine any laptop from 2011+ will have no issues with YT, but if this is a HP Stream that's another story
I’m gonna be totally honest, I don’t really know how to check.
Well i guess thats why google exists
One moment
Installed RAM 4.00 GB (3.82 GB usable)
uh
Procesor (intel (R) Celeron(R) N4120 cpu @ 1.10GHz)
pretty sure i typed that right
graphics card 512 MB
again I literally know nothing about this
ive been told i should switch to opera
your PC is on the very low end of specs, I doubt opera will do any better
