dont know if it will work but run cmd as admin, type in sfc /scannow and press enter. When it ends also type in DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and hit enter.

if youre going to run both you might as well run dism first, it repairs the files that sfc checks against

also if youre in a hurry to set up this new hard disk, you might be able to do so from Settings > System > Storage > Advanced storage settings > Disks & volumes, or with the diskpart tool in command prompt

Neither DISM+SFC or an in-place repair worked btw: #tech-support message

oh yikes, yeah i would in-place upgrade (though i have a feeling the MCT might not be too willing to run) or reinstall like you mentioned then
