Hi, I am bit lost now and I want help. Three years ago I build a new computer and created account on my school email (and probably set my computer as work device - but I am not sure with that). But after I graduated, my school email was deleted and I forget, that I had registred my computer on it. Well about month ago, I downloaded new update and I was not able to log in to my home screen. It said, that "you cannot log in with this account. Try another account" (I am from Czech republic, so it was in czech so i hope this is correct). So I deleted that last update and i finally log in, but now, I dont know, how to change the email adress to my personal, because the email I first registred is deleted. I also cannot turn my account to ofline account (i dont see that option). I created new account on my personal email (just in case) but I dont want to transfer all the data and set all the preferences and I want to ask, if it is possible, to change the email adress even, if it is deleted... Thank you really much

this is why i never connect personal devices to non-personal accounts :P

at Settings > Accounts > Your info, you don't see this? what do you see?

strange flume
#

unfortunately nothing like that and I know, that was stupid...

dull thicket
#

what do you see at Accounts > Access work or school?

strange flume
#

my old email, which is deleted and other school email and this

dull thicket
#

if you click on your school email, do you see any kind of "Disconnect" button or similar?

strange flume
#

yep

dull thicket
#

i see, so your school account is connected and its policies are being applied to your PC—press Disconnect to remove it and stop that. then if your account is not already a local account, you should be able to go back and make it a local account

on this screen (before you press Disconnect) you should also be able to remove your other deleted email if you want—i think if you click on it there should be a button that says something like Remove

strange flume
#

when i click it, it shows me another window, which sais something like: "after disconnec, you wont be able to log in to this computer with account of you organization. if there is bitlocker installed on your computer, make sure, that you store your key somewhere else, than this computer"

dull thicket
#

that is correct, you won't be able to log in to this computer with your school account, but it sounds like you don't want to do that anyway :P

you can check whether BitLocker is enabled by opening Command Prompt running as administrator and entering manage-bde -status C:, you will see output like this if it is disabled—if you see different output it might be enabled (you can throw a screenshot here and we can confirm)

strange flume
#

but I have my personal data on this computer account. 😦 So will I be able to still log to my home screen but it wont be connected to that email?

dull thicket
#

that is correct

strange flume
#

Looks good right?

dull thicket
#

yup! bitlocker is disabled so you should be good

strange flume
#

well, i have to enter alternative email. Is it ok to enter personal email, which is already used on this computer as account or is it better to enter another one?

#

i see, it has to be local administrator

dull thicket
#

you should probably go disconnect that other account from your personal microsoft account / make it a local account to avoid issues, especially if you plan to connect this account to your personal microsoft account after you disconnect it from your school

strange flume
#

so i have to go to my personal account, there disconnect it from this device and same on this device. Than create new local account, set it as my alternative account in that window and than it should be all ready?

dull thicket
#

i'm not exactly sure what you mean :/ could you maybe rephrase

strange flume
#

sorry. On this device I have already created another account (earlier just in case...) and connect it to my personal email. So in fact, this computer is registered to my personal email on another account on this device. But I want my account which is connected to that old school email. So Im not sure, what to enter to that alternative local administrator

dull thicket
#

give me one second to look into this, i've never done this exact process before and i want to make sure you don't lose anything

strange flume
#

Im greatful for it. Take your time and thank you very much. It was dump mistake...

dull thicket
#

i am unfortunately not sure how to proceed here, but i've asked some people who are smarter than me and hopefully one of them can jump in to help you!

#

i have gotten some advice from someone who is smarter than me, and now i know how to continue

#

go ahead and cancel all of the disconnect stuff, we aren't going to do that yet

then, just to how i tested so i know how it will work—can you sign out of your school account and sign in to the other account you made on your computer? the one you connected to your personal email. disconnect it from your personal email so that it is a local account

strange flume
dull thicket
#

yup, on the account you just created that you connected to your personal microsoft account, i would like you to disconnect it from your personal microsoft account (and you can reconnect it when we're finished)

strange flume
#

done

#

i turned that account to local and in the settings, it says so. But i can still see this computer on my personal microsoft account, that doesnt matter right? I mean when i log to the microsoft365 website...

dull thicket
#

yeah that's totally fine, a lot of the time it doesn't disappear from your microsoft account even though it is actually disconnected

strange flume
#

And if it helps, on that local account, i can still see the old scholl Brand or id (idk how to name it)

dull thicket
#

that's okay we will remove that after

#

first, log back into your school account

at this point im going to suggest that you back up important stuff even though this process SHOULD keep just about everything. but i would be especially careful with things like the passwords saved in your browser, etc. for that kind of thing make sure sync is on, and if you have any super duper important files, copy them to a flash drive or copy them to onedrive or google drive or something just as a precaution

with that out of the way—we're going to use a tool called profwiz to basically migrate your school account onto the personal account you made. so go ahead and download it from here https://www.forensit.com/Downloads/Profwiz.msi. when you run this file it'll ask you to install profwiz, go ahead and follow the prompts and then open profwiz.

when you open profwiz, click next and you should see something like AzureAD\your_name. click on that and press next

then in the first box select your computer's name, make sure it is NOT AzureAD or anything to do with your school (unless your computer is named after your school or something, lol)

in the second box enter the USERNAME OF THE LOCAL ACCOUNT you made (if you dont know what the username is, open cmd and run net user, you'll see it in there)—make sure this is NOT your school email

before you press next, make sure you don't have any unsaved work open. your computer is going to automatically restart after you press next!

then press next and your account will be migrated. wait a little bit and your computer will restart. then log back into the personal account and you should see all of the stuff from your school account! maybe something like your desktop background might be a little different, but your files should be there.

then you can disconnect your PC from your school completely. go to Settings > Accounts > Access work or school, click on your school, and hit Disconnect

strange flume
#

so here i should choose the first one

dull thicket
#

correct

strange flume
#

and here i should change to pc

dull thicket
#

yup

#

just like that yup, and then enter your personal account name in the second box

strange flume
#

which will be jakub_final right?

dull thicket
#

should be!

strange flume
#

well here we go, i will message you

#

I got this

dull thicket
#

yikes, was that in profwiz? you might want to try reopening it and trying again, if you can

#

actually before you do that

#

show me what profwiz looks like

#

that looks to be from brother printer software and it might just be unrelated or perhaps the software got confused when profwiz did its thing

strange flume
#

Well it says after that, that the mogration was completed and it starts to restart a update the windows, so hope it didn't ruin

dull thicket
#

okay! that sounds good to me

#

it will restart automatically and then you can keep going and it should be okay

strange flume
#

im back

#

it WORKED!!!

dull thicket
#

yay! now you should be able to go disconnect from your school, and then you should be all good!

strange flume
#

IT MERGED

#

so again in setting -> accounts -> acces to work and ther disconect from the school

dull thicket
#

yup

#

this time i don't think it will ask you for alternate account information either

strange flume
#

same window that says, i wont be able to connect appear

dull thicket
#

yup, that's okay

strange flume
#

it asked

dull thicket
#

for alternate credentials? interesting, out of curiosity can you open cmd and type whoami

#

just to be extra sure we did it right

strange flume
#

i think we did

dull thicket
#

yeah that looks okay, so when it asks you for alternate information you can just enter jakub_final and the password for that account

strange flume
#

oki

#

i will try

#

so it needs another restart, hope it will work out

dull thicket
#

🤞

strange flume
#

WUHUUU

#

IT WORKEEEED

dull thicket
#

yay!

strange flume
#

Im not seeing that school anymore

#

OOOH

#

I dont know how to thank you

glossy needle
#

that'll be $150
