I use Virgin media and my Ethernet is capped to 100 MB/s but the contract is minimum of 250 MB I have a Killer E2400 Gigabit Ethernet adapter, the cable I have is a cat 6, I have changed the cable and no difference. The max speed for my Speed and Duplex is only 100MB, but my router allows more than 100 MB/s

Check for driver updates

#

Go to Windows updates and check for new updates and if you see a driver update related to your ethernet controller install it

EEE Max support speed

plush seal
lethal frigate
#

ok so you don't have it, disable energy efficient ethernet

lethal frigate
#

hmm

#

is the device you connected to limiting the speed to 100mbps on the port itself?

#

basically is the router forcing a non-gigabit connection?

lethal frigate
#

oh

#

from tomshardware

#
#

auto negotation should be the default setup

#

then go back to the network adapter properties

#

check the speed of the CONNECTION via adapter

lethal frigate
#

also check the speed of the cable's rating

plush seal
#

Cat6

lethal frigate
#

well that should be compatible with gigabit then

#

soo

#

just reconnect and reselect the settings

#

Idk if this is a bad cable or something

plush seal
#

i did

#

i unplugged

#

then changed to auto negotiate

plush seal
lethal frigate
#

hmmmm

lethal frigate
plush seal
#

from the Killer intellegence suite

lethal frigate
#

did you check killer for prioritziation or speed cap?

plush seal
#

yeah

#

there was none

lethal frigate
#

does the router support prioritzation?

plush seal
#

my mobo is MSI z70a ack gaming

plush seal
#

i got a feeling that its from my lan port on my mobo

lethal frigate
#
lethal frigate
plush seal
#

im really confused

lethal frigate
#

or you could a good rated cable that has the quality neccesary

plush seal
#

bcs at the moment its on auto negotiation

#

so do i change it now to smthing else?

plush seal
lethal frigate
#

lets do a full nice reset

plush seal
#

so i just switch it on then change the duplex and put the cable in

plush seal
#

sorry about all the questions...

lethal frigate
#

push the powerbutton when the PSU is off to fully drain any excess energy in the capacitors

lethal frigate
#

well

#

I guess that would work too

#

you just want to get rid of any charge to turn on the motherboard

plush seal
#

then I change it to auto negotitation

lethal frigate
#

when the psu is off

#

you first

#

change it to auto negotiation

#

then turn off pc

#

then turn off psu

#

then drain charge via holding power button

#

disconnect the cable before PSU

#

once the pc is fully discharged

#

then turn on the PC

#

then plug it in and check

plush seal
#

for 1 gb option?

#

I shall do so

#

imma do it now

#

ok @lethal frigate

#

i have done that

#

now what do i do

#

looks the same to me

#

so what do i do now? @lethal frigate

lethal frigate
#

network connection speed

plush seal
#

what

lethal frigate
#

you cannot set the value to 1000mbps

#

at all

#

directly atleast

plush seal
#

ok

lethal frigate
#

so

plush seal
#

but my speed is slower

lethal frigate
#

your issue is fixed

#

try a speedtest

plush seal
#

it does not show tho

lethal frigate
#

not on the controller properties no

plush seal
#

why

lethal frigate
#

but on the ethernet status yes

#

because killer is dumb and will not give the ability to set 1 gigabit

plush seal
lethal frigate
#

you might need to try a better cable

#

or it's maybe the fact that the chip is terrible

plush seal
#

whaat chip

lethal frigate
#

the killer chip

plush seal
#

this a good cable

#

40gb should be fine right

lethal frigate
#

it's a flat cable

#

be wary of it being delicate

plush seal
#

finally a cable i can afford

lethal frigate
#

a round cable with cat 8 support

plush seal
lethal frigate
#

even though all you really need is just cat 6

#

cat 8 is a nice overkill

#

also the one I linked supports Power over ethernet

plush seal
#

meaning?

#

its £6 😭

#

im broke

#

this one

lethal frigate
#

that works too

plush seal
#

k

lethal frigate
#

that being said

#

the issue with your network adapter is fixed

#

it just required a full power off including the psu to reset the auto negotiated value for the ethernet speed connection from 100mbps to a unselectable 1gigabit

plush seal
#

k

#

umm

#

how do i fix this

#

in my router settings

#

@lethal frigate

lethal frigate
#

idk

plush seal
#

i cant

#

thats my issue

lethal frigate
#

check online on how to do it
