I managed to boot into my USB Stick equipped with BlissOS (the os doesnt matter, but surprisingly its the only one i got to boot off a usb stick), and there is only one USB A, this is a problem because some of the keys on the keyboard act as numbers too, so if i wanna exit the shell i would have to type exit, but it comes out as ex58 or something like that, i can remove the usb stick, plug a keyboard in, then unplug the keyboard and plug back the usb stick and press enter but there is not much in the bios, i only managed to boot into the stick by doing absolutely nothing and it just booted fine but i had to reboot because of a mistake, now it shows the acer logo and goes straight into shell, completely disregarding the existence of the usb stick (which is being read since the light is flickering accordingly)
#Acer One 10 will boot to EFI Shell 2.31, and i cant seem to boot from usb

I'm not sure I fully understand this... you're booting into a USB...then your keyboard acts up?
no, so basically
everytime i turn on the acer laptop i get booted into the efi shell
if i want to exit the shell i can't unless i plug in an external keyboard
and since its half tablet half laptop
it only has one type A
i only managed to boot into the usb once '
and i didnt intervene at all during that it just did it on its own
Yeah, that keyboard issue is strange, but I suppose you can bypass the UEFI by pressing the right F button to go straight into the USB
(And if it is pressing random stuff, maybe solving that issue would be a priority)
when would i press F?
didnt do anything
still booted me into shell
the keys that press numbers have the numbers on them w blue
i tried pressing fn to get the keys but it didnt work either
Let's try this instead:
- Shut down the laptop
- Hold one of the F keys:
F12 or F11...whichever boot menu your model has. - Press the power button and see if you can get the actual menus
Idk what Acer uses, it's trial and error; for the BIOS itself it's usually just F2, DEL, F8, F11
ive managed to get a screen ocasionally
saying to press either esc or del to enter setup
but now it doesnt show it anymore
oh wait
i got the boot menu by pressing random f keys
i have uefi generic and enter setup
im assuming uefi generic for the usb?
probably!
and im in the bios
nice, not exactly my plan but a good start
yeah, now you can set it as UEFI Generic
i could try usb hard disk #2
alright
strange
pressed f10
and it sent me back to the bios
okay? can you manually save & exit instead
yes
black screen for now
acer logo
so i dont think it did anything
also the acer logo takes a good 20/30 seconds to disappear
maybe even more
itd usually be a good sign showing that its reading the drive but
i dont know what to say
it still didnt go away
andd back to the shell
Try setting it as "USB key" instead
Okay
its also very difficult to power it off
a i did reset
in shell
back in bios
OO
AN UNDERSCORE!
nvm back to shell
so usb key didnt work
although it did show an underscore
but it wasnt blinking
usually that means that it booted into it but it didnt sadly
when it booted automatically into it i had it set to disabled but i dont know if that matters
I'm not sure whether to send this laptop into extensive repair or test with another flashdrive 😅
i could test with another flash drive
or a mem card
but i think mem card would be worse since i would need drivers for that usually
i will try another usb drive
Ait
but first i am gonna try booting into bios with no usb
and then plugging back this one
okay im trying another usb stick
the new usb works!
i did what i did last time
not touch anything and it worked
but i do have another problem
i suppose create/modify partitions?
I guess, I'm not familiar with BlissOS but that's a start
its basically just linux
the way the partitions work
but i dont understand why it wouldnt work for me
maybe because the other usb was mbr?
i will try thogh
though*
aahh
no
the other way around
it was gpt the last time
now its mbr and it is acting up
i think i have an idea
yeah it has to be gpt
so I've ran into another issue and i found out why it wouldn't boot and i think i may figured everything out
I don't think it has internal storage
only now do i realise that it tries to make the partitions on the usb drive
hence the mem card slot
every laptop has storage?
i dont think so though because the website specifies it has 64 gigs
yeah
its a tablet with detachable keyboard
i just figured out how to detach the keyboard
it may be an os issue so im gonna try something im more familiar with
I see
it's a 32 bit chipset so its a bit hard to find and OS but i think i'll manage
no, something is totally wrong
i am in mint right now and it straight up sees no disk to install to
Ouch.
