i got a samsung portable SSD. Occasionally or as i would word it, commonly the drive sends this message and shuts down my game with no explanation. and once it starts it wont stop untill i either switch the usb port back and forth and or restart my pc multiple times. it usually starts by randomly freezing my game and having this message pop up on the right corner of my screen then it just closes the game on that drive, after that it starts to shut down my game when i start it just a couple of seconds in the game. it also does this when i enter its file location and such. i have tried to press the scan the drive blah blah blah but it does NOTHING. doesnt even delay the shut down of the games, and no this is not exclusive to one or two games im playing, once it starts happening it shows the message even when i open the folders. i do have a theory tough,

its almost like the cord is glitching or is pherhaps abit broken? since it shuts down the SSD screen (second picture) for just one second and then it goes back to normal. i dont need to log back in or anything. could someone help me figure out what the cause could be for this weird thing?

It might be the cable, the enclosure or the drive itself that are failing. You can check crystaldiskinfo to see if the drive is reporting any errors. Don't look at the health indicator, you need to look at the raw values and see if there are any errors or pending sectors or command timeouts, etc..

Even if there are no indicators of a problem in that data, it still may be a faulty drive. 20-30% of failed drives show no indication of a problem in their health data.

If there is no indication, then the only way of testing is by replacing either the cord, enclosure, or drive and seeing if the problem is fixed.

ill try those options tomorrow!

#

if this helps, it also shows this after the 'problem with this drive' msg

That's just saying you plugged in a drive and windows wants to know if you want it to automatically run something that's on that drive

#

It's not relevant to a problem

Alr,

#

But i didnt plug it in or anything like that. Its been plugged in for hours, so doesn't that mean that my cable is glitching if it shows that msg? Or am i trippin

#

It only shows it in these instances and when i log into the SSD

#

goodnight fr now 😭
