#Wi-Fi not turning back on after turning off Airplane Mode

ThinkPad T450 (Intel Dual-band 7265), running Windows 10 Pro, everything updated via Windows Update and Lenovo Vantage. After turning on Airplane Mode, and then turning it off, my Wi-Fi stays off (but Bluetooth seems to be back on) and I have to run the troubleshoot to enable it again.

Previously my Wi-Fi also wouldn't turn back on after sleep, but this was fixed by going to Device Manager and unticking the box that says "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". The other aforementioned problem still persists, though.

Boosting this post for a bit -- hopefully someone knows a thing or two

That's interesting, I'll look up this 7265 model -- I didn't think about it before because I was using Linux on it and it worked just fine as far as I could tell. I'm handing this down to someone else so I installed Windows 10 on it. (I'm aware that it's going to hit end of support next year)

Oh wow this is precisely the same thing I have to do to make the Wi-Fi work after turning off airplane mode. I don't know why I didn't come across this when I googled this issue yesterday

Apart from that...does your dedicated key work on linux too?... @rigid gull

Seems to work as far as I can remember, I currently don't have a live USB with me though

I see!.. Retest the key carefully and observe if it works properly..like turning it off enables wifi automatically...

If the key works (turning wifi on or off) and wifi also works accordingly...then its a bug in windows for that wifi...

If the key doesnt work at all..and you can freely turn it on/off..regardless of the airplane mode key on/off....

Then its an issue with the key itself...

Noted, I'll try that when I have the live Linux USB with me

Also check for firmware update.. Just in case..its not the latest...

Best of luck!..

Hi, sorry for the late update. Happy to report that on Debian 12 my Airplane Mode hotkey does work and I don't have the same weird issue I'm facing on Windows -- my Wi-Fi gets automatically disabled and enabled when I toggle Airplane Mode on it

@rigid gull any update?...

rigid gull
#

omg i'm sorry i completely forgot, sec

#

uhh yeah with fast startup disabled it exhibits the same issue still

#

yep, after exiting airplane mode, i have to disable and then enable the wifi card from control panel to make it work again

#

both with and without fast startup

official as in vendor drivers? would they not be overwritten by windows update?

zealous karma
#

you can download drivers ahead of time...then clean install windows...and install all the drivers offline...

rigid gull
#

noted, i'm not sure if i can reinstall everything so is it possible to uninstall the driver from device manager and then install the vendor driver offline?

#

many thanks for your help btw, sorry if i didn't say it already

zealous karma
#

you can do that...and check...if still doesnt work..I think a fresh install would be ideal!...

@rigid gull did you do anything?....

not yet sorry, i've been a little preoccupied with real life + urgent family matter. i'll let you know when i do get to it, apologies for the long periods of no update

#

i'm not sure if i can reinstall everything at this point, so i'll try doing the uninstall method
