Obviously a backup copy is critical these days. Have important "must not lose" things stored in at least 2 different places (doesn't matter where: on other drive, a USB, a phone, another computer, cloud server like OneDrive or Google drive, anything). Having only one copy of something important is insanely risky.

But this process doesn't do anything to your files.
