I did a windows update but it stuck on the restarting process. So, I did press windows + X + power to turn off my laptop

How to prevent something like this from happening again?

What makes windows update stuck on the restarting process?

  1. If an update file is corrupted, it may prevent successful installation.

try restarting again.

#

and make sure to plug in your PC

If your download is somehow corrupted when downloading the latest updates, you can redownload the file by doing the following.
Remove the folder C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Local Settings\Temp\X-Win32AutoUpdate.
Start Internet Explorer.
Click on Tools > Internet Options.
Click the Delete Files button.
Start X-Win32.

#

first check if that folder has corrupted files or not.

#

if not then incomplete installation or interrupted installations can also lead to these issues. but in this case I think your laptop has corrupted files which are causing this problem...

How about if I only do this: Delete C\windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

#

Then wait until the windows update comes up on my taskbar

#

And try windows update again

I am afraid if it does not work, I have to press Windows + X + Power

#

It can potentially damage the SSD cause I don't shutdown the laptop properly
