My Microsoft account got hacked a few months ago, and since then I’ve attempted to get it back, it’s the same Microsoft account my computer uses. For some reason it stopped letting me use a pin to sign into my computer and use the Microsoft account instead. Last night I tried changing my password again, which said it worked, but still wouldn’t sign me in to my account. This morning I turned my computer on and enter both the old and new passwords for that account. Old password says it’s incorrect, new password seems like it would work like usually, except when I click skip on the “Setup a pin” menu, it just goes back to the main startup screen with the wallpaper and time. I REALLY need all the files on this computer, and I can’t afford to buy I new one. I’m stressed out rn, what can I do? :((
Additionally, the hacked account had the email changed, as well as the password changed. I think I created a new account under the same email it had originally, which must have glitched the computer or something (I have no clue)
Is there anyway to somehow change the account I am using from the Lock Screen, or at least get into the computer without needing to login to my account

Clicking retry brings up the same “something went wrong” panel. Usually when I click “skip for now” it would let me into my computer, but now it just makes me go through the whole process again on a loop.

but to continue using ms acc or computer it will require that get fixed

the bypass will not allow you to keep the whole thing, but we can copy data and just reinstall after 😄

but I would suggest we copy files to a usb drive or external hdd then just reinstall with a local account

No, but your files would be accesable, they would not be on your desktop, that is why I suggest you backup and reinstall or we can use that to copy files to your desktop, but most software wants you to have the same name and microsoft account status

backup everything to a usb drive, or other drive, remove ms account, make a new local account with the same name and move back the home folder to the same location (pray that icals just works)

I contacted Microsoft support, and they told me to do a custom installation thing

All my old files should be saved on windows.old

But I’d rather do your method first just in case the installation thing doesn’t work

Add it to the administrators group

Reboot

Login with the new pass / user

Plug in a usb drive

Copy all data

yes, that we dont have to worry about, its only user files and stuff that can go wrong, but because you didnt have encryption, we always could access them with a linux live usb drive 🙂

in your user folder, or

%appdata%

%localappdata%

should contain your brave data, you can just copy that to your new acc to keep extentions, logins, and other stuff

(I suggest copying all the user folder) C:\users\<name> rather than all the folders inside while backing up, because of hidden folders like these
