#Need to boot up windows from a different hard drive
23 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Depending on your Motherboard manufacturer theres a key u can press during POST to select a startup device (usually F11)
Unfortunately BIOS doesn't work as the only 3 devices showing on my BIOS as boot-up options are:
- Windows Boot Manager
- NIC IPv4
- NIC IPv6
So I assume it's something I need to configure through windows instead
did you fix your problem by now?..
No I haven;t
which imaging tool did you use?... did you clone the boot partition as well?..
Unplug or disable HDD from bios... save and restart... then check whether your pc boots ...if not then check bios if you see "windows boot manager" when HDD is DISABLED or UNPLUGGED ....if you dont see windows boot manager then your cloning wasnt perfect!
Try rebuilding the bootloader on the SSD.
I used minitool and I have no idea which partition the boot one is
How do I do this?
Not sure if it will work, especially if the cloning was not done perfectly (as said by Saiyan32).
But anyway, its worth a try. You will need a Windows installation media
You could also use your other Windows drive.
Will re-installing windows reset all files on my new drive?
No, you're not reinstalling Windows. But, you are using CMD to rebuild the bootloader on your SSD that is not booting.
Alright which CMD do I use to rebuild?
Make sure the HDD is disabled from the BIOS
then boot into the Windows Installation Media
Can't disable it from bios unfortunately
My only BIOS device options:
So I assume I'll have to uninstall HDD manually
No need
