My main Drive C periodically slowly drains space, then shoots back up

Do you have bitlocker protection enabled?... and system restore points enabled?..

try to save your important file in D drive and reset your Win if u cant found any solution

Yeah, i've been thinking about 'upgrading' (lot of people say its not worth it) to windows 11, but not sure if I want to right now

But i never had this issue before, its only recent

you can check the encryption status from the settings!... usually bitlocker tries to encrypt the drive per schedule if enabled!... which results in sudden increase and decrease in disk usage ... system restore can also cause this...
