#Booting into Linux

Hello fellow
ok im here
Tell me
When you open task manager does your SSD look like it's pegged at 100%
Or does your computer hang sometimes?
[Hang = freeze]
Wait are you on Windows 7 @old trench?
windows 10 with windows 7 theme
Oh okay good
Do you have a flash drive, preferably with data you are comfortable with erasing?
i do
yes, this thing used to have linux mint 20.1 XFCE
Ah great
So you know the whole deal of flashing the ISO and that goof, right?
and it was meant to be installed in my cruddy chromebook laptop
yes, lets just say this laptop is a nondisc drive
Goody
And do you have Linux on your phone/ tablet, or another device
i can download it
in fact, i believe i have pop os downloaded and into my usb already
Well what I want you to do is flash it to the USB- ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED AND NON-RETRIEVABLE - and just boot into linux- DON'T INSTALL and play around to see if you can make the computer do the same thing it does on Windows.
@old trench It could be a corrupt drive or a corrupt OS, idk
Only way we can see is to find out and experiment
i have ventoy installed in the usb so all i have to do is select the iso on the list and boot it from there
yay!
But yeah just see if you can see the same issue happen in Linux and then carry on deducing from there
but this feels risky... cuz i have the fans running at max rpm because i still cant find out if its the overheating or not
Oh well then that's my 2 cents of advice, take it or leave it bud. This thread should remain open if you need it but imma move on now to other things and don't feel like going on with this anymore, it's making my mind numb :(
Okay I am watch YT so I will be on standby
Ok I'm here, what do I do now?
Well see if you can emulate issues you were having in Windows to make the machine black out or whatever issue you were having
So you want me to act casual using the laptop or something?
No
@old trench What makes the computer freak out in Windows?
What is your issue first of all lol?
Well so far it hasn't shut off yet and I'm only using the internet
Well does it shut off in Windows when using the web?
No, not at all, especially when I'm running the fans, it pretty much can if you don't
Not to mention, the animations are nice compared to windows 10
Well try doing something. This something must be similar or exact to what you would do on the computer in Windows 10 that causes it to crash.
It has disk usage analyzer
Let me give you an example.
It does. Use it to keep an eye on your disk buddy
and don't mistakenly pull out the flash drive, it won't work then
I know
@old trench I use the web in Windows and then the whole computer crashes after 10 minutes. If I use it in Linux it doesn't do anything, even after 20 minutes! Then I can deduce and see it is indeed the OS. Do you get what I'm saying?
Its never blacked out when I had Linux mint... The thing is I don't wanna use Linux, it sucks, its boring, it doesn't support executive files, and wine is bad...
Besides it shouldn't have anything to do with the operating system
Maybe your computer doesn't like Windows?
Try reinstalling Windows 10 ig
No... I reinstalled it many times
It came with windows 10 originally
Uh oh, it just shut off
So it's not the disk...
If it's not the CPU, if it's not the GPU, if it's not the power supply, if it's not the disk... Idk then
It can't be the ram, cuz the ram was never touched when it started shutting down for no reason...
And I'm sure if it was the ram it would give me a bsod
Rather than black out
@frozen sierra
It's GPU. GPU controls the display and display driver
Is the computer still functional when the display powers off or does the whole thing just go?
There are a plethora of issues, we have deduce slowly. A repair shop will charge you for the exact same thing I am doing rn :(
The entire laptop shuts off after a while. And I have to wait till it turns back a little bit and when it turns back on after a bit and then it shuts back off ready for me to turn it back on and i turn it on, it shuts off in just a second the first try, but when I turn it on the second time, it works again, but before it boots up it tells me something about the clock being wrong or some and I just click continue it press enter then it reboots into the OS
Yeah cuz it thinks I'm offline sometimes and I'm not using real internet
I don't think it will fix the issue, but the smallest things can cause the biggest issues with Windows
Go to a shop and get a CMOS battery for your computer. And then put it in
To get netshare working I have to use 192.168.49.1 IP address and port 8282 which doesn't work for everything
And yes you're right, it does have a CMOS battery
