Long story short, I downloaded Adobe Dreamweaver pirated (stupid thing to do I know) and I saw there was "run.js" on my quick access section in file explorer so i deleted the whole folder and the script but there is this error that keeps showing up and I dont know what to do.

Also unrelated, my facebook account got hacked and I was able to retrieve it but my amazon details got hacked as my card was used to send someone $60 could it relate it to this? I really need help

for the second point, potentially

you could have been cookie grabbed or your credentials could have been taken from your browser and so on

plenty of options on how an attacker could have gained access to any and all accounts you have signed into on that pc, if you downloaded and allowed malware to run on it

as for what is causing it 🤷‍♂️ perhaps a remanence of whatever you downloaded trying to run some kind of payload - first thing i'd do is see if a file at that path has been flagged in your antivirus of choice

of malware

#

but this window of windows script host always pops up everytime i close it for every 5 min

does it persist after restarting your PC?
if you went into app data and deleted a random folder perhaps a genuine program that is running relied on run.js

#

unless you know that folder to be created by, or used by the malware

if i create a folder and called it that "D.." and inside that folder I will make a text document and call it run.js

#

the error will not show up

#

but if i deleted it and moved it to the recycle bin to wipe it out

#

it will show up again

that is very obscure

#

no program should be searching an entire file system for a dependency

#

well there isn't anything that immediately points to what is calling for run.js
there is certainly a way to find out but that is beyond my knowledge

a guaranteed fix is to format the drive and do a clean install of windows - that would usually be my goto in this situation, definitely a lot less work than tracking down whatever is misbehaving, especially with it being potentially caused by malware

not necessarily, which is why it is always best to have a backup of your files before anything like this happens

#

you can upload any irreplaceable files to onedrive then scan and check them as you reintroduce them to your system though if needed
