hey guys, so my dad has a windows 8.1 on his vaio laptop, and it recently got discontinued how i understand, now his pc wont even operate properly and he is asking me to update it to windows 10.

My question is - if i use windows 10 media installer to get the windows 10 on that computer, will i have the option to transfer all the files? because he said that he needs the files he had (just so you know, the laptop wont operate properly since microsoft stopped supporting the system, so he cant even throw those files on a external drive fyi)

you can use the "upgrade this pc now" option to do in-place upgrade

you won't lose any files if you do it that way

alright did the thing, i just used the upgrade option and not setting the usb as the priority boot and etc etc

realized i could just run the setup while the pc was on the 8.1 dekstop and then just select the option upgrade basiaclly

man i had no idea what did that mean bruh, by mount i thought that i gotta add an external iso drive to the computer
