#Required media driver missing
170 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Either your windows is corrupted or your mobo drivers didn't come pre installed with the os
Had the same thing happen to me. Downloaded a older version of windows and it worked
thank you
Your welcome
Do you have an Intel CPU and M.2 storage?
This is the message translated:
A required media driver for your computer is missing. This can be a DVS, USB or hard disk driver. If you have a CD, DVD or USB flash drive with the driver, insert it now.
Note: If the Windows installation media is in the DVD drive or on a USB drive.
you can safely remove it for this step.
yes @icy sun
ah that explains
you might need an AMD RAID driver then
What CPU is it?
@icy sun
hmm
can't really find any storage drivers on the AMD website
so what I do?
Whats your motherboard model?..(along with chipset name like B450 or A320 for example)..
AMD A320
OEM model?...
Like is it asus msi or gigabyte ?..
I think gigabyte
if it is gigabyte!..then tell the full name...like gigabyte a320-s2h or ds3h ..or something
or you could type msinfo32 in the windows search box( press windows key and then type)...and check the motherboard model!...provide screenshot of it!
I have linux installed
Well he’s reinstalling Windows so
boot into BIOS/UEFI... and head into system tab and look for this information!...you will see the full model name of it like this for example!..
This is a problem, a weird problem, I had this, you need to use a different imaaging software, use Rufus, allot better, this happens due to the file getting imaged too fast!
Since you installed Linux use a different computer running windows to image
My, my
You should set your bios to it's default settings and get your data drivers on an USB. You can use ventoy to have both the ISO of windows and the missing storage drivers. I don't know if you are using the latest windows 10 ISO but you should.
You are dual booting?
If yes, installing windows will wipe grub and you no longer will be able to boot to your linux distro.
Taken from Linux mint forums
What app are you even using to image? Because the media driver error only happens ( well coming only happens) because of the imager they use, like when I installed windows from Linux, I used galena and got this error, then I booted my Mac into a windows thingy, then I installer Rufus, and got past this error.
The mint forums also mention ventoy as the best solution for installing windows
Rufus is not supported on Linux systems
Yeah. Great thing.
But like that was the solution for me on another computer, so I can’t really figure what a good program would be for Linux?
Based on my research only ventoy can be used on Linux systems to install windows
Rufus doesn't work neither balena etcher. Based on actual search
Why wouldn’t BalenaEtcher work
Because it only works with Linux ISOs it says
It will refuse to flash a windows ISO
lmao that’s weird then
You can try if you don't trust the search results
I trust you
I tried it, and flashed my windows 11 iso sho shitty and go the error that we’re tryna fix rn.
so with what should I flash the usb
?
With ventoy. Then copy the iso you want to boot to it
i tried but rufus wont start up at all, i tried reinstalling it aswell and using the portable version
trying to just use wine for rufus doesn't work because it cant detect drives
I'm gonna try startup disk creator but i doubt it'll work
nevermind
Now thats..an old thread...that didnt get resolved...
@umbral copper hope you managed to solve it...
Are you the same person.. @umbral copper?
Or you encountered...issues of your own?
Issues of my own sadly
open a new thread...or head to #tech-support
👍
actually quickly can you try out a tool called Ventoy?
https://ventoy.net usually its meant for multi-booting. but ussually works.
Can you show me...what you see?..
During not detecting drives...
Laptop or desktop?...
Laptop
Full name?..
I'll send image of device name because I don't know the model completely
And device name is the model
Boot into bios...and look for an option thats says...vmd...(probably in advanced tab or something)
Disable vmd...and save bios settings...and try again!
That one?
Hold for a moment...
How did you prepare the usb?...using which app?
I only used a ventoy usb to boot the ISO from my downloads folder
And from where..did you download the iso file?..
From the windows site where you install the media creation tool
Only option was to set the iso up yourself though
-> unplug all external devices...including mouse...
Except the usb..ofc!
-> double check..if vmd is indeed disabled in bios...
-> boot the iso in...wimboot mode from ventoy...
Even my charger or can that stay in
Where do i see that
Boot or storage tab..
Storage tab doesn't really exist and boot shows nothing
Also..you downloaded the iso..directly or..using media creation tool?
Directly
That pc uses windows or linux?...
Exactly as I thought...
I believe something went wrong...when you copied the iso to the ventoy usb...
Since its cached..during copying..
Wait I didn't copy it tho the iso is inside my downloads folder I just search for it inside ventoy
Huh?..
You mean...you can load iso from a different location?...
Yep
dont do that..try to copy the iso...to the usb...
Redownload the iso..if you can
Load iso...from the usb..not from another drive.
Ok, will take a while tho
Redownloading...would be a better choice..
Ok
But sure..if you want to use the already downloaded iso..
Report back..also for the copy part...make sure..its copied successfully... because its cached.. even though ubuntu says copy is successful..
So it isn't actually copied fully?
It loads..the data to the memory first...then from memory to the usb..
Oh
So should I just wait till the message that says copying dissapears fully
Because normally it just stays
You can open..sys monitor..and check memory usage..increasing and decreasing during copying...
So if usage goes down again it's done?
Its up-down scenario... till it stops..
There is a command to ensure the transfer process...
It was rsync command or something...I forgot
See the difference?..
Bottom one being used the most but not much more
Copy done?..
Thats one slow..usb drive...
Trust me
I know
@light kestrel notification from copy is gone now I think it's done
Check the ram usage..
Is it still going down..
Iso takes way longer to load now
With wimboot atleast
Omg you are a lifesaver
It works
Thank you so much
@light kestrel
Can you help me with partitioning tho
I need the drive to be ntfs
And it's not ntfs bc of Ubuntu right now
You can wipe...the drive...if you want
Sorry for the late response!...its late night here..
Is there some way to partition with cmd
Bc I know how to get a cmd prompt that's not an issue
It's fine I didn't know its night for you, it's only morning for me
You can wipe the drive... using diskpart command in cmd....or manually from the windows installer...
Just the x right?
Like the thing that says delete or smth
Yep!..select each partition..of that drive... and click delete..till it becomes a single partition of unallocated space...
Then you can click next..
You're a goddamn lifesaver thank you so much
Welp!..my task here is done...
Yep
Have a great day!...
