the idea is basically that the compression of the rear end is made to be not linear. normally the faster you go the more pressure gets on the rear due to downforce, and it will compress the rear in a linear fashion (x amount faster means x amount more compression). on the mercedes there seems to be a point, a certain amount of pressure that causes the rear end to suddenly drop a lot.
the benefit of it was briefly described in the video, basically to flatten the rear wing and reduce drag.
how they achieve this non linear behaviour is pure speculation.
