I would say the map, of course. But also the story (I don't know The Crew 1) which is really cool imo

Also being able to "play" online with other players on PS4 without the PS+

Map size and ability to team up with 3 other players for events (otherwise shallow feature)

Firstly the big map. Secondly its in the name - the whole crewing up and doing things together thing. However, that is pretty much non-existant in the 2nd game unless you wanna aboos slipstream or break the game somehow, in the 1st game although I havent actually done it myself I can tell that crewing up is way more meaningful in it and the game was built around it.

#

To add : the 2nd game doesnt follow TC1 identity at all, there is no 510 like gang, its just some random livestreaming company that doesnt give a sense of community. The 510 gang does that and its clear in the 1st games story, meanwhile the 2nd game has no story (unless you count those discipline movies that you can unlock)

#

If TC3 wants to build up on its and the 1st games name, a simple clan/guild system is at least needed.

Why I ask this, is because I do wonder, what actually makes a game part of the franchise. Sometimes with games feels like that the only thing that ties them is the name and sometimes not even the studio who made the game. So is interesting to see what people think, what does a game need to have the right to be called "The Crew [Insert number/title here]"

Story and its setting, gameplay and overall idea. You cant have GTA if it suddenly became a peaceful RTS game, it needs chaos, crime, cops, etc. Or if Assassins Creed suddenly dropped the entire playing in the past through memories thing and they used the name to make the next rainbow six siege

The big map makes the The Crew standout. and the "no bias" balance of cars in PVP which what I think makes it more playable as a PVP racing game i mean I know its not perfect but the devs made it enough polish toi become playable that way

the abillity to form a crew would actually really fit the name. also imo slipstream races actually fit the game. even though i prefer non slipstream races

The first crew was excellent and the name was fitting, big map, you could crew up easily, change cars on the fly etc. As for the second players spend way too much time in the menu changing sets or trying to crew up with their friends or just simply playing the stupid part scrapping sorting minigame at the HQ. You can rarely see active players roaming arround, most of them usually ghosting because of the things i wrote above.

also by forming a crew, i mean creating a clan etc, like hawkera_prime suggested

Crew vs Crew stuff also needs to implemented

The identity of the game used to be about teaming up to do stuff as a crew, and the first game actively encouraged that. Not so much in TC2 =/

my friend who never played TC1 actually got confused why TC2 is called The Crew. He said the title sounds like a gangster street racing kind of game. I know that IVT decided to put the same name since its a sequel but its still at least have the crew identity of having the same large map and gameplay with expansion of planes and boats and stuff

If anything feels distinct to The Crew 2 at this point, it's it's scope - a massive map to drive in, and a massive amount of disciplines and vehicle types to play with. That feels like the identity of The Crew 2 in particular.

The other Crew activity though is freeroaming. The map is well detailed for roadtrips. That's another thing that other racing competitors that doesnt have

I hope they wont make the map smaller because for me the big map is the most important thing about the series

Roadtrips are something you can do, yeah, though the game doesn't seem to really encourage it. If anything it somewhat deters you from driving around too long with the way that the fame score 'maxes' eventually, requiring you to slow down or stop if you want to keep earning fame.

It's pretty telling when they value the Fame Leaderboard more than encouraging people to drive in free roam.

#

If freeroam is supposed to be part of the game's identity, they should be doing, far, far more with it.

Probably the big map. Then that you can group up with a good amount of players, not too many which is very good imo. Then we got the graphics.. really amazed by how they look so good on such big world. The vehicles are wonderful, some have good handling while others don’t. At last we got the races. They are good, some are very special. My favorite is the New York. It is very different compared to anything I’ve played before. The long route, the high speed straights and the curvy corners. This is what The Crew is to me.

The variety of disciplines and the ability to change between them easily

thin grail

For me the game is entirely carried by PvP, community, friends. There's no distinct "identity" that I go online for here.
I would say disciplines are part of that, but the way It worked out in TC2 is just...no, different disciplines clearly aren't that much of a priority after year 1. They even killed JS for me personally with that recent dummy easy broken boat. Disappointed in everything that isn't called Street Race as a result.

For me, the identity of the crew is play or race with friends, have many disciplines and wide manufacturers for me, have a weekly competition called "live summit" and have pvp. With pvp I can maximize my skills and I can apply it on live summit.

But yeah, we know every game is not perfect. Things that still be a problem in tc2 is about the frame drops that happening sometimes and the bad headlights that they still don't solve it.

Homever, tc2 still a recommended games because their constant update every 4 months if i'm not mistaken with new series and new vehicles.

probably the disciplines and the map for me. I just know that's The Crew.

I'd say "the huge map", but unfortunately TC2 doesn't utilize that area anywhere near how much they should've. Idk about TC1 though, tbh I've forgotten most of it.
