I've just watched this movie and it's honestly immediately one of my favorites now. The characters, the humor and animation—it's all excellent.
the idea of the ||terraforming forest|| is really creative
also didn't expect it to go to places as dark as it went
I just finished it yesterday and I really liked all of the character designs and personality it's so yes also the concept of death as this spoopy wolf and all his vibe was just so eerie and was such a great yes mwah perfection 10/10
idk if this little spot is still alive but i’m posting anyways.
so i saw the movie earlier today and just. wow. i never expected a dreamworks film to blow me away as much as this one did. the animation and set pieces are absolutely gorgeous and are such eye candy for me, the action sequences are beautifully done and the choppier animation really adds to how snappy the action can be.
bunch of very big spoilers start here.
||death. everything about death i adored. his design was eerie and his presence was always chilling. to see puss take a blade and BLEED after bragging that he had never been touched by one truly brought forward the fact that he’s basically on death’s door. and the whistle that announced his presence; the way it ends on a note that seems like it was left unfinished makes it an uncomfortable sound to hear.||
||not to mention that upon a rewatch of the intro, death’s admission that he was present for all of puss’ deaths was true. he’s tucked away in the back during the fight against the giant, and if you listen you can hear his whistle and the bell tolling for each life he burned through. i genuinely love how it brings the subject of your mortality to the forefront.||
||puss’ panic attack in the woods was an extremely raw depiction and i never expected to see something so relatable to my own experiences in this type of movie. the way the movie tackles anxiety and the way it can affect you physically and mentally made me feel seen, and i’m so glad they handled it in such a mature way and didn’t make it into a joke. plus, perrito getting to fulfill his wish of being a therapy dog in that moment was precious.||
||and jack horner. i loved how he was a static villain, and couldn’t be swayed by a moral high road or anything. he saw his men as dispensable and never cared about anything other than the wish for more than a few seconds. his methods were ruthless and violent. not to mention that john mulaney did an amazing job with the voice work for him.||
overall, it’s an amazing movie and i think it deserves nothing but high praise.
YESSSSS SO TRUE YES TRUTH MHM EXACTLY
still honestly kinda sad that it lost to pinocchio for best animated film in the golden globe awards
True and truth
Now I gotta get those plushies
wait holdup what plushies
those are so cute wtf
alright this bot is broken
fuck
I think all three villains are different and I can’t rlly compare them
The movie was so good!!
||The action was so stylish and on point, the characters so endearing and the score was phenomenal. We had three fantastic villains. Death is the obvious stand out but I also really really like Goldie and three bears and the journey they went on together. It was seriously good stuff. And it kinda teases a new Shrek movie too which of this movie is anything to go by, I think is exciting||
Im talking (forcing) another group of friends to watch it again
Finally watched it, by far my favorite piece of media released since Arcane. 9/10 movie.
Legit one of the best movies I’ve seen in years I can’t think of a single thing wrong with it
Yes
Not to kick a dead post but I never put my review here. I'd rate this movie 7/10. Maybe 7.5. ||The cinematography was a breath of fresh air and really immersive. The animation was stellar. My main problem stands with the plot and how the characters flip-flop on their morals for plot convenience. A lot of major turning points rest on cliches or misunderstandings which felt lazy to me. And I hate the trope of the annoying pet sidekick but ESPECIALLY hated it in this movie. God that stupid dog was insufferable. Overall it's visually really compelling but at the end of the day it felt like a typical kids movie to me in terms of plot and character writing.||
||I will say the movie was very funny, but only when it wasn't trying to be. All the forced and scripted jokes and quips fell flat. Like you can tell which were written by out of touch boomers and which were written by younger people.||
fair enough
i have not watched it yet and i have not clicked on any of the spoilers but i really have high expectations for this movie. Dreamworks has alwasy produced not many famous but always amazing movies. I literally can't wait to watch it
i have watched it
Whatd you think
