Thanks for posting in the support forums, terrifyingcalifornia!
Guidelines and First Steps:
- Please include your
se.logfile located at<Steamapps>/common/SpaceEngine/system/se.log.
-# ^ This step is not optional for 95% percent of issues. If you need to know how put "!p log" into the chat below and i will give you a step-by-step - Is your installation modded? Not all mod authors keep up with updates, and old or buggy mods can cause many issues, even those that may not seem related.
- Are you on the latest version? Older versions of SpaceEngine are not supported. Check your Betas tab in Steam to make sure you are on the current version.
- Have you updated your graphics drivers recently? We only test against up-to-date drivers. Old drivers can cause a plethora of issues.
- Does your PC meet the system requirements? (Windows 10, Dual core Intel i3 3rd gen / AMD FX or better, 6 GB RAM, GeForce 1050 Ti or Radeon RX 460 (4 GB)).

When you say laggy, is it because it is at 60 fps max and it seems laggy compared to your game at 180 fps? Or is it because your pc can't handle it?
For Discord it uses your cpu as an encoder, for OBS what settings do you use?
No it's 2-5fps, im not sure i seem to get better streaming from OBS but im fairly certain my pc can run it just fine. Here's my specs, RTX 3080, 64gbs DDR5 6400mhz, Ryzen 7 7800x3D
I will check my OBS settings, i dont use obs much at all so give me some time to get those details
When i say "better streaming" its still choppy (stutters consistently)
What settings am I looking for?
I personally have a much slower pc and it doesn't stutter at all with OBS. The issue might be bad settings.
what settings do you use?
SE is known to have issues with OBS. i recommend using the inbuilt capture via F9 in game.
SE's built in capture tool is also designed to capture perfect video even if the app stutters or has a slow down(IE very complex scenes like black holes/nebulae/neutron stars) by adjusting the sim speed/recording speed to ensure a solid 60fps(or your specified framerate) recording.
The issue is live-streaming rather than recording
OBS is known to have issues with OpenGL apps this is not a SE specific issue with OBS.
And for the discord stream issue? I assume its the same reason?
My understanding it its a capture issue on windows with OpenGL. OBS is usually the app most people notice it with or report on it about.
I see some people have had success changing Vulkan/OpenGL present mode to DXGI Swapchain on Nvidia cards.
this would be under Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings
I'm not sure of all settings, the ones I know about are that I'm using the NVENC encoder, my bitrate is at 6000 & 160 kbps, and I record by choosing a window manually (not the automatic one).
This worked! Thank you !!
