Mastering Black Holes - SpaceEngine

SpaceEngine is excellent when it comes to customizing volumetric accretion disks, but the vast majority of users can't quite create the accretion disks seen by people like Ika Abuladze or myself. The document I will link below is not entirely finished, however with enough demand, I will finish the document so that others can create amazing black hole systems like I have done myself. I have created black holes and demonstrated my results on my channel.

documentation seems pretty straight forward so far. havent checked the YT yet, do your videos demo how you make them? ill hop in game and play about with it in a few when ive finished up some shit.

Yoo rad, I'll check it out shortly. I actually spent quite a few hours the other night experimenting. Managed to get some pretty fun results after a while. It's wild how large they can be.

Hey there, I tried to create some accretion disk like you, but I can't get rid of that grainy effect, in the accretion disk (I don't see it very much in your renders). It makes the render really dirty and not realistic. Is there a way to get rid of it as much as possible?

The reason my renders are cleaner is because they are in 4K. Send a picture if you can so I can give you advice.

I'd normally just make a video showing what I would do

but I reverted back to a previous version of SE to get some good results with Rodrigo's Mod on planets

I was planning to do the same, Rodrigo's mod was really beautiful!

I tried to record in 4K too, but I think I've messed up with the accretion disk's settings, cuz the render is messy anyway, even in ultra 4K.

No worries ahah, I can send you videos too if needed. Maybe I'm asking too much, but I feel like I can get way better results with black holes.

your bhs are already pretty nice. I'd increase the inner radius slightly but you are getting good results so far.

I don't know, this kind of grain effect in Blach holes and nebulaes annoy me, I really doesn't like this. The less there is, the better it is

Is there settings that you would recommend to me? I can show you everything, if that can help

Maybe decrease OuterSpin (I think that's what it's called, I'm a bit rusty rn). If it's not already make sure the OctaveScale is at 1 (I'm pretty sure it is tho) and increase the InnerRadius to get rid of the weirdness in the middle. KerrSpin is really optional but I reccomend 0.8 if you want a good result.

An example is here on AT2019qiz, a tidal disruption event.

The KerrSpin is actually really high here.

For this hypothetical quasar though it is very low.

The hypothetical quasar (in blue above) was edited and this color and glow is not achievable in unmodded SpaceEngine.

AT2019 however is, and you should be able to achieve a similar result with enough time.

Okay, here's the settings and lighting settings to make this look like the 1st picture i posted of Tut

also, I don't know how it works on other intermediate black holes, and again, this config was made on the default bookmark, "Intermediate-mass Black Hole"
(Object, RSC 8513-3123-0-0-0 S*)

The only difference between black holes is their comparative sizes/masses

and their KerrSpin

hey i got a question

whenever i set my octavescale to 1 a part of the black hole keeps glitching out but when i saw ur video i saw u didnt have that problem so could u please tell me how to fix that?

It depends on the resolution of your display.

If you export a high-resolution screenshot, the flickering will vanish.

Also, turn up the graphics to max. That greatly improves it.

Increasing "DiskOuterSpin" gives the disk a more swirly appearance.
