To start off, it's clear you know what you are doing, since you are already generally in the top 10% of parses or higher. So most of my suggestions will be small areas where you can improve on what you are already doing, rather than stuff you are missing.

Shield Block uptime - You are ~70% on most fights, including Lightblind Vanguard, you should be 90%+. Defensive value aside, your Shield Slam damage is increased by 40% with Shield Block, so this is very important to focus on.

Defensive Stance - you're 100% in defensive stance for all your kills, but I don't see your health generally being threatened. Try to go battle stance more often when nothing happens and you can do damage - two examples are Saladbar in his burn phase and Vorasius for the two full minutes where you are not tanking him.

Talents - In the Prot tree I see you are running Battle-Scarred Veteran and Massacre. I would suggest placing these points into Thunderlord and Tough as Nails for most fights as you don't ever really drop low enough to actually proc BSV and execute, while useful, is not as powerful as it was, so more casts of demo shout and passive block dmg will result in more dmg, especially against multiple targets.

In the Warrior general tree I see you are not picking Crackling Thunder. While this is very minor it does help hitting adds that are spread out, so this could allow you to get aggro (or pad) easier on some fights. I would also suggest you swap Fearless or Piercing Howl for Wrecking Throw. At least three fights I can think of include absorb shield mechanics which WT is amazing against, and if you are forced to run out of melee it does more damage than a Heroic Throw anyway.

Shield Charge - use it more often. Some fights you only cast it three times. It increases SB uptime and it does double damage with tier, so use it on cd, and if you are not running Thunderlord always with Demo Shout.

You can optimize your opener slightly. You use Thunder Blast and sometimes Shield Slam after, without having them buffed by demo shout. use Demo shout first and maintain aggro on the pull using taunt, so your opener looks like this:

  1. Charge + Taunt
  2. Demo Shout + Shield Block
  3. Potion, racial and trinkets*
  4. Thunder Blast
  5. Shield Slam
  6. Shield Charge
    continue as usual

*(puzzle box you want to use before demo shout, idk if you can use it right before pull without losing the buff)

I'll be honest, a lot of times I don't feel like I know what I'm doing at all lol. There's seriously a lot of moments in fights when I feel like I'm drowning in my rotation and can't get air lol. Have to force myself to take a deep breath and slow my mind down to correct the ship per se. I've never tanked. Been playing since WotLK, and literally never tanked once lol. So I'm still incredibly new and figuring all of this out. That's probably why there's odd things you're seeing lol. I really appreciate the feedback! I'll work hard to get those things figured out. I've watched a lot of guides, and read a lot of things on this discord that have helped me a ton.

Happy to help. You've never tanked before? That's impressive and goes to show the research you have done / are doing is making a big difference. Keep at it and you will be full legendary parses before you know it! 🙂

I've watched just about every guide I could by every tank main content creator I can find haha. And then just reading a lot and practicing. Thankfully I've found a really awesome guild that took a chance on me and allowed me to tank for them.

And maybe a dumb question. But for example, if I have shield block up, and it has 4 seconds left, if I press the second charge of it, does that give me 12 seconds now? Or does it refresh/stack the buffs? Like is there any downside to using it with a few seconds left versus as it drops?

I tweaked my talents before raid last night. If you look at the talents for Cosmos, and heroic Imperator, those are the talents I'm planning to use moving forward

#

i removed Fearless and took wrecking throw just now

98% of the time I send on cd, only real exception is using rage for ignore pain if there's damage going out or if nothing is happening and I can just freely execute. In either case, if shield block were to drop off, I would use it. Never go to two charges.

Yeah for ignore pain, with my raid build and the max 130 rage, i try to IP at 75+ rage every single time. I almost never press Revenge, even when it procs, because I'll have a Shield Slam or Thunder Clap either proc'd or off CD

#

so all my rage pretty much goes to IP since it's off the GCD

That sounds like what I would do too

and thank you so much for the information and your time. i definitely appreciate it.

Not at all, feel free to ask if there's anything else. Good luck to you and your guild!

i put defensive stance and battle stance on a button, so next tuesday when we raid i'll start practicing swapping between them when i feel like it's safe to do

#

thanks! same! i'll come back and post logs again next week and see where if there's improvement

Haha yeah I'm already sure that's going to happen at some point. It'll make for a memorable moment most likely that I'll quickly learn from lol

#

thankfully it doesn't take more than once usually for me to learn a hard lesson 😂
