I think that rend is the throughput option in lower volatility matchups. If you're going to gib somebody a minute or two in and massacre range might help with that then play massacre, but as a general pick I think rend is more damage.

Rend is a little more unforgiving to play, though, especially if you're rending up multiple targets.

If there's something super specific that you need to stop to stay ahead or win then go for it otherwise I feel like it's a pick that's difficult to justify, especially with how unreliable it can be (mages blasting it off for instance).
