The dagger was in your off-hand for when you closed into range. You didn't actively attack with it, you waited until you could parry and draw their sword away with yours, close in, and basically shank them

Duel wielding pretty much never makes sense from any realistic standpoint. There is just about never a situation where having a sheild wouldn't better or even just having a free hand

But two gigantic swords just always rubs me wrong regardless. Axes and maces are typically better proportioned and designed for duel wielding animations

Yeah the rotation changes like once or twice a month. What happens is that a faction has to contribute resources, which is done with daily handins, this takes 3-5 days usually. Once the contribution phase is done the faction that contributed can queue for the warfront for 7 days, after which they'll take control for the zone and their rares reset. This also opens up dailies in that zone. So a full rotation would look like this:

-Alliance contributes 3-5 days / horde controls zone
-Alliance assaults 7 days / horde controls zone
-Horde contributes 3-5 days /alliance controls zone
-Horde assaults 7 days / alliance controls zone
-Alliance contributes 3-5 days /horde controls zone

The side that controls the zone has dailies there, and the rares ONLY reset when your side gains control of the zone. Which is once every 20-24 days.

You can check the current status of the warfront zones on the 'today in wow' section at WoWHead.
