Currently I'm partial to the boar's head on the left shoulder

I'd say left. but I think then you need the weapons to be more asymetrical too. I think a "bigger" weapon in the boar side and your current axe for the non-boar side. Generally the the heavier armored arm will be a bit slower and so you'd want a weapon that you can be less precise with while the more "free moving" arm can have a smaller more precise weapon. That's just how my brain works though.
