Step by step process:

• read the rotation guide #dps-faq
  (Dont focus on being perfect, just getting parts right, it will come with time and gameplay)
• Max out gear to at least full HC 6/6, check the same faq for what you should craft.
• as a final step, after you played another week or two, check rotation faq again, then do a key or raid. Bring logs to #1347646810457636974 and we will help you with what you still are doing wrong.

Keep in mind it will take time, if you are a noob, and it will feel slow. Yet, once it clicks, you will have a "oh, I got it" moment. So just have fun and game, then minmax

I also do 4min, no buffs, sims for trash. Usually is a lot closer to real scenario dps numbers (as you wont have all the raid buffs, adds die, and all that jazz)

If the st sim and AoE differ hard, I lean towards the ST value

If you don't want to think about it yes. If you run some sims you could find a piece like belt or boots that is a larger uprade to spend myth crests on but you will need to recraft embellishments eventually

Patchwork sims are best for Heart + Alnseer, Dungeon Slice says both Hearts, but I guess Trinket sims are still bugged?

Probably alnseer + heart of wind, i wouldn't trust dungeon slice, i suggest simming patchwerk 5 targets 1.5 min if you want an idea of dps on packs, patchwerk for boss, then make your decision
