aside from the obvious bit about going out of your way to prioritize adds, one deceptively simple part of maximizing Thane damage is priming Thunder Blast before using Avatar

so it's mainly just for capitalizing on short lived waves of adds

the other part of Stix is just positioning, ideally you have a DK or two gripping adds in, and if your group is good, they'll be picking adds up with the rollerballs and depositing them on the group

but if that's not happening, look for your boomkins because they'll typically have aggro on adds otherwise - get them to stand in or near melee so the adds come towards you

We are supposed to be premium at "prio dam" atm, with "decent at sustained dps", and we are. The problem is premium in WoW balance terms, is 5-10%, due to raid balancing... and the overall value falls short and isnt felt.

If we did 2x to 3x the ST of others, we would likely feel a lot better about having 0 AoE burst potential and only decent sustained AoE dam.

Problem, raid balance would not allow that.

So instead we trapped in this weird spot of being "fine", "decent", "alright" - but nothing more.
