yeah you'll get it back instantly but melee might get diddled a little bit if their swing timers line up with that split second of immunity
most important thing is make sure you don't do it while kiting, otherwise their melees will all be queued up and will definitely smack a melee dps

The first two packs in DOS are nasty. Those Bonesoldiers do an instant cast Shadow Damage attack, and the casters on the second platform can be unpleasant.
