Been tanking since expansions and ages past. ditched prot in favour of bdk around end of wrath,had a prot phase in mists but that was it. bdk ever since. i want to get back into prot properly now as an alt. I heard/read ignore pain is now only a supplement and we now only have shield wall as a full mitigation/DR ability, rest is just physical mitigation only. how is the playstyle then? esp. in raid and m+?

Usually just use IP to dump excess rage I know I can't dump just on revenge or when I feel like I have no defensives left at all. The later also comes with a feeling of either I messed up or this pull/boss is just taking longer than it should

Ignore Pain is still used as needed - generally in Mythic+ you don't really NEED it and Rage is better spent on Revenge for the damage. But there are times where you are better off using Ignore Pain depending on the damage you are taking.

I wouldn't say rage starved, we have a lot of burst rage currently from Avatar, Ravager,Booming Voice, Spear/AA.
And outside of those we are still fine with Rage gen - The Wall and Reprisal both also help in this regard.

Thank you very much! Yeah, covenants would be my next question. I really like Necrolords, but think they are heavily dependant on your group and correct usage of the banner, otherwise it's wasted, right? it's not so uch a fire and forget ability as spear and aftershock are

Kyrian is also really good for mythic+..the tether from spear can be a lifesaver when kiting and the phial clears necrotic stacks
A misused banner is a wasted CD pretty much, as kyrian/nf you'll even pump as prot in keys and the rage generation is lovely
iirc, feel free to correct me, but even the banner is only good to use on certain classes to outweigh the dps from spear/AA

AA/Spear are both just excellent in M+ compared to Banner.
AA provides a ton of rage/damage and the knockdown is honestly a huge QoL , especially in caster packs which tend to be the most dangerous. Soulshape is a solid kiting tool and also helps with using Reprisal as you can Soulshape out and Reprisal in if there should be a need.
Spear is also a ton of rage/damage (especially once we unlock Mikas last trait that allows us to spear every ~40-50s). The tether is solid utility but you generally use Spear on CD for the damage/rage part rather than planning to use it for the Tether. Phial of Serenity can be a life saver against bleeds/dots/necrotic.

i just felt that ever since prot lost their self-sustein (in terms of heal) back in the day, prot felt very squishy/cd uptime dependant, hence why my first thought was to go with necro due to added defensiveness from banner mastery gain and fleshcraft

Coordination is key for dungeons where its needed, like hoa. Interrupts and cc needs to be on point. Talk beforehand about if youre gonna bl or not. Some dungeons are easy to pull big, like NW, SoA or mists and all you really need is a defensive or so
As with anything in m+ just get the experience and see what works.

I think you can switch loot spec right before chest, but like, might as well make it part of your pre-key routine because you’ll probably forget later

Which just means opening the box is irrelevant; when the key 'completes' game looks at your class/spec and sets the items for when you 'interact' with the object that spawns @the chest location.
My fav are the absolute cheesedicks who wait for everyone to loot, know they got something..then drop group and hearth.
and now that there's nothing from dungeons I want that much any more...I still hate those people.
Because what it means is "I'm an enchanter and want to break down that item into a shard..and don't care if it's an upgrade for anyone else"

Harrow our conduits aren't fantastic but what I was honestly grinding for, to get 226 in S1 was Piercing verdict..and it ended up being 1 of the last 3 to upgrade to 226...then I just finished 'em out. I would constantly upgrade the arms/fury ones lol.

That being said..the beginning of that dungeon makes it appear harder than it is; the 'broker' trash mobs are actually angry AF and if you get dotted up with their rotating beam, or get disoriented etc...it can go sideways quick.

anger management is fine, but i kinda prefer bolster, its such an good talent with reprisal. when you go with bolster, you have to use last stand much more frequently and not just as an "oh sht" button

if you're using reprisal I'd highly suggest AM over bolster because you tend to just not need that extra 15s of SB every min, and LS as a CD itself is pretty "meh"

9.1 gear seems to lean really heavily towards Haste, I think probably close to 35% by the time i get some decent end-game gearing, is that overkill and inefficient stats because of DR? I could maybe try to replace a Haste/Mastery ring with something like Vers/Mastery?

does anyone know if the functionality exists in Details to show per spell information like this screenshot from skada? Details shows total damage blocked, but I want to know WHAT I blocked, and how much of a particular spell (like melees here) I blocked.

There's a block list pinned somewhere. Can't block it from boss but can from adds. I think the one from the adds is the only blockable ability on the whole fight
