Yes, Ancient Aftershock will deal more damage and generate more rage than Spear of Bastion in AoE.
Just be sure to keep the enemies inside the ground effect as well.

I was in the same position about covenant yesterday, I ended up going Kyrian. The utility of potion has been perfect as well as going back to spear made it seem a lot safer. Little upset i don't get to be a groot warrior though

In AoE packs, very-very-very rarely (almost never. 🙂 ). At the beginning of an AoE pack you have to establish Aggro so you won't be using Condemn.
At the end of the AoE pack it's pointless to use Condemn cause well..it's a single-target ability. :)
In single-target scenarios you have a bit more situations to use it.

@loud wolf contrary to what almost anyone will try to convince you of, Tanking in raids specifically is actually the easiest role. Most of the time all the tank has to do is hold a mob in a certain spot, pick up adds and take them to a certain spot, or taunt at the right time due to a debuff
most of the "fun" mechanics are for healers and dps to worry about
dungeon tanking is, in my opinion, significantly more fun than raiding

Tanks do need to know the fight / mechanics probably more than most other classes, though. The in-game dungeon journal is real good about telling you what everything does. Take some time to read through it
