Depends how much you want to min-max. There are best covenants for Prot and they might not match the best Covenants for Fury/Arms.
In general you will be perfectly fine picking whichever Covenant for most content.

Kyrian is more reliable due to the need for enemies to stand inside the Ancient Aftershocks ground effect for maximum performance. But if you can play around Ancient Aftershock and enemy positioning it can be extremely strong.

Spear of Bastion is a lot more reliable than Ancient AFtershock.
With Ancient Aftershock you would need the enemies to stand in the ground effect it leaves behind for the full damage/rage while with Spear you just throw it and forget it.

hi all, BRAND new protection warrior been leveling up and still struggling a bit. I'm getting the offensive rotation down a bit better now, but I still struggle with understanding what I should be doing for active mitigation and when. Shield block seems straightforward enough trying to maximize uptime, but unsure how I should be using ignore pain and revenge. I've read through the icyveins and wowhead guides, but still find myself just praying sometimes without any feeling of smooth rotation like I did on my blood DK. Does anyone know of and recommend any videos explaining the thought process I should be going through - or even just showing how to use active mitigation when going into a pack on m+ for example?

Here is the quick version:
- Shield Block is our active mitigation. Any time you are actively tanking something that is dealing blockable damage you need to have it up. Overall uptime is not a good metric, effective uptime is (% hits blocked).
- Fill gaps in SB uptime with kiting or shield wall
- Ignore pain is a damage smoother/rage dump. You should use it to smooth out incoming damage and/or avoid rage capping, but it is not our main mitigation and should not be prioritized over shield block.
As for when to prioritize IP over revenge that is really up to you. Youโll feel a bit tankier if you are dumping with IP. But revenge is obv a damaging ability. Find a balance that works for you and go for it.

Late reply but in terms of performance night fae is a solid second place not far behind kyrian. Phial is much better than fox. And in terms of usability imo kyrian also pulls ahead because throw spear and forget

I don't care about being the most broken tank, but I don't want to stress out my bud healer. The whole point of me tanking is to push keystones and prot is literally my baby.
