Start of first pull AA, for many seconds I'm taking no damage since no bleed yet. I turn my back to the mobs while moving out of the green aoe, and my HP drops from 100% to sub-20% in under 1 second.
Charsheet tooltip says it "reduces damage of an attack by 37.48%" for me, but that's clearly not true?

Hey, just wanting to clarify for you. When you turn your back to mobs, it’s doesn’t just stop blocks. It stops dodges, parries as well.
The reason why blocking reduces so much dmg is the way mitigation systems work and layer over top of each other.
Additionally the AA requires for prot warriors to be kiting pretty much the entire time you are out of shield wall. The little adds do a lot of dmg. We get piercing howl to deal with this, and other classes can help us stun and slow the small stuff.

You will end up kiting battle axes as well as you go higher.

Don’t let mobs get behind you because you can’t block, dodge, or parry their attacks if they come from behind.

If you’re looking to get into m+ start with smaller keys and just press w and go through dungeons like that. It takes time to learn routes and what people can survive. If possible make friends and run with them.

If you’re looking to raid just make sure you know some basic info about bosses. Communicate with your co tank prior to pulls to make sure you’re on the same page

Outside of learning your class, a lot of tanking is separate from your class. The best way to learn is practice, a lot of it is dungeon and mob knowledge, learning how to get a feel for the limits of your groups, situational awareness and the ability to react on the fly.
