Because of what Jakey said. They made Execute hit like a wet noodle baseline. As MT it is still more or less usable due to the +25 % damage buff it gains from the Hero tree,but you only cast it on ST if both SS and TC are on CD.
For Colossus you only think about using Execute if you have DW talented. Without DW you unbind Execute from your bars. This is the "user friendly" version of it.
This illustrates the damage numbers between using execute with various talents and not using it at all.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter too much. If the damage input is manageable, there is no need to use defensive trinkets,but rather go for offensive ones to help with the damage output as you said.
You would only swap to defensive trinkets if the situation requires it.

My take here is:
It is his choice if he wants to use a dtrinky, effectiveness aside. It won't make or break his DPS values or TPS.
So if this does nothing EXCEPT the placebo effect of having your tank feel safer while playing, it is worthwhile.
If you on a fundamental level cant accept this line of thought, you should replace him from the team. You are not aligned.

So with this an example, I know I need to taunt swap around these stacks, so basically hold boss for 20 sec - your cotank will taunt off when stacks falls off. Then maybe there is a need to taunt swap during the weakended state as well, but yeah - not very complex, stuff.
So all you need to track there is yourself and your state. "Do I have stacks? Am I tanking? If no, taunt." then if the mechanic requires it "Is my cotank weakened? If yes, taunt." tho most likely he will just pop CDs to live that space of time while your own stacks reset.
So track the conditionals, by having your co-tank as your focus target is a neat way, to see their situation and your own.
Most fights got clear "why you taunt" mechanics. Often a mix of "X time has passed" (application of a debuff) or during "X condition has been met" (boss and/or adds spawn, that causes one tank to want to focus on one or the other). The 'hardest' mechanic usually being one where the boss chains a tankbuster combo, that requires you to notice what part of the combo is coming and what parts that cant overlap. Usually a "I do 1 attack, scary, 2nd attack is random type 1 or type 2, where you taunt if boss is casting type 2 - not if type 1"
So tldr:
Do your homework of checking the dung journal, spot the tank mechanic. Then with your co-tank, discuss how and when you want to do things. Do some light adaption on the fly as you progress, and finally solidify into a set strat.
Whispering your co-tank is your best tool in the arsenal, so remember to do it. Always - even in PuGs - whisper your cotank with a 'hello, [either a futher greeting, or a question about the fight]". Lifehack: Ask him a question you know he knows the answer to, even if you already know, to have him like you more from the getgo.

has anyone noticed any weird aggro behavior? in delves. lots of mobs turning to attack other people, especially pets, with no change to plater nameplate behavior and no real reason to have lost aggro, almost like a fixate but with no indicators of a fixate. in dungeons sometimes i feel like i'll charge into a pack and with everyone pretty far away, some will turn immediately to run to the group before i get a TC off, seems like with proximity, they shouldnt beeline for the group
