i know at 22k haste we tend to go for itf, currently i try to aim for stable 25k, at what point do i run into crit dr? so i know when to go for more vers / crit or crit /vers gems

We're progging NK atm and constantly having our warr complain the monk is ripping it resulting in inconsistent movement to begin the fight (plethora of other issues such as falling over but bit easier to identify that)

Aware its not log review channel but I'll fire it in anyway in case I'm misinterpreting but I don't see taunt debuff on boss at pull (spot checking others you don't see the cast but boss debuff as they use it to pull I assume)
Monk have weird tierset, if warrior have bad luck with their tier and monk have crazy procs of theirs, they will probably rip agro. But as I've noticed Nexus-King is quite wierd at begining, he seems to reset agro after the fight truly begins. Even if it was just my erronous feeling, they can easily taunt after the boss starts fighting (after first cast when he stays and do nothing but cast). In general if there are no heavy debuffs, like on fractilus, they should watch agro and taunt before tankbuster they are supposed to take in case of agro issues. Also using taunt to start fight isnt good imo, you lose part of it to get to the boss.
In retail taunt actually increases your aggro generation for a while, doesnt it? Also, just taunt as soon as you connect to boss, since it's off GCD

Yea, thats why its not good to taunt to start the fight. You waste part of that increase to get to the boss.
You should be meleeing the boss as soon as pull timer hits 0
I don't see why you would lose uptime on taunt if you use it as soon as you connect to the boss
If casters are precasting and hitting boss before pull time hits 0, that's them messing up
I've meant pressing taunt to start the encounter. After that you still have to go to the boss, charge etc., and thats the uptime of increase you're losing.
I prefer to start with charge to get some additional rage at start for the SB

i think theres a setting that dynamically adjusts your settings, so it might be increasing them in m+ where theres less oging on and not reverting back when you get to dorn/load into a raid

target Fps allows the game to reduce graphic setting as well as resolution when your fps drops below a certain point. and basically game freezes when screen is being adjusted to new resolution

in my mind I was suggesting to turn off the setting if it was on, but that was definitely unclear
foreground is an fps cap while running the game. background is for if you alt+tab a lot, it can reduce system usage while the game isnt in focus

Newish to prot warrior, but not tanking, noticed in one of my AK10s last night I completely fell over to the double flyer pack in the basement, mostly the DoTs stacking far too quickly and just unable to mitigate it.
Is this something pwarr has to navigate more carefully, a skill issue, or not enough information to tell?

I tried the frame gen after they released the drivers for 40 series cards and noticed I was getting hit by mechanics that hadn't actually hit me. There was a desync between the visual and the impact. I turned it off and it went back to normal.

I like eco. Gambit has too much downtime so even though the time is faster it feels slower. Sort of like taking the highway so you can do 60mph over backroads even though the backroads will get you there 5 min faster
@dusky canopy what did you ever do with the fury execute conditionals, or how do you handle it with naowh?
I use amd driver level frame gen and fsr and it has been a good combo
I don't think it's too bad, but it takes some time for the portals to spawn and to go through them
I do fluid motion framegen and fsr with 80% render scale @ 4k and I stay around 300 fps with the occasional dip to 140 or so on dimensius
I made the strata for Naowhs execute WA lower than Cones Kaching WA and made cones WA the same size and shape as the Naowhs WA and then placed it directly overtop of it
i tried doing that but just fucked it

Naowhs execute WA was being a pita if I remember correctly
So I just made it never load
And created a default execute WA matched that to the size and shape of naowhs other WAs in the suite put it in the order I wanted it
And then put cones over top of it
I only did that because I use my WA suite as “hot bars” basically
So you might not need to do that step if you don’t want
And you can’t put cones WA in the Naowh suite because it will break it
You just have to manually position X and Y

Some are more dangerous than others.. The most obvious thing may be that you're getting too many stacks of the healing reduction debuff.

Hmmm that seems odd because some trinkets can give purely damage vs something like mud that is purely defensive. So how do u compare those with a DPS sim?
the neat part is that you don't
Survival is directly tied to damage profiles coming in, while damage is just static based entirely on things available to the specs. You can't really sim survival without having a dedicated sim for every possible encounter.
To take extremes, for example, crit would have zero defensive and survival value and would be completely worthless if every single attack around was not able to be parried and you had no leech
Mastery for us would also lose a lot of value if there was literally nothing blockable, since you can't crit block what you can't block
but things aren't in vacuums like that; there's auto-attacks and parriable things going on while you're being hit with not parriable mechanics. On top of that, there's also defensive CDs, as well. For another extreme to illustrate, imagine if you had the choice between a 90% DR with an 8 min CD, or a 60% DR on a 20s CD. One of these seems clearly better, but what if the only damage you take is an ability literally used once? The 90% DR is better, then.

The reason we tell most people to just sim for damage is a result of things not being in a vacuum; everything stat wise (that's not a trinket, I'm getting there) is close enough that your survival gain is within margins of error as long as you have stats; the rest comes from play. So you might as well go for damage while you're at it.
I get simming for DPS for secondaries and stuff, but trinkets is odd to me
Now trinkets on the other hand are special; they get to have novel effects like cheat deaths, or acting as a DR ability for a time period. Those are hard to value because of the same above, but they effectively add another button to use as a defensive.
They can be extremely useful to literally useless, and it's very hard to judge until the situation you needs it come up.
Optimally, you probably don't need any defensive trinket whatsoever; the game is balanced around the baseline kits enough that any defensive trinket is technically overkill. It'd be a rare situation that a defensive trinket actually enables something. If it did, it becomes literally required very quickly.
Realistically, they can add buffers and reduce potential confusion as to your status; you may not need something like mud to survive Priory 1st boss, but it can keep your HP higher, reducing stress and mistakes on your team.

So judging defensive trinkets is really hard; a lot of people don't get any value out of them since they're already not using their baseline defensives, which are often stronger than defensive trinkets, so adding more things to consider actually is harmful rather than beneficial (unless the copium reduces stress and mistakes, in which case more power to them?)

But you'll see a non-zero amount of people rock them in higher keys, because realistically, a trinket's damage increase won't time a key (unless Blizz made an oopsie balance wise), and mistakes will instantly brick higher keys.
@shut summit @patent osprey I'm not sure who else does higher keys who visits this discord than these two, but if they're willing, I wager they can give you more insights from the high key type people and the decisions they make. There's a lot that goes on to making success happen, and I know these two both have had experience and have chatted before in here.

Personally when when I am deciding trinkets (Offensive vs. Defensive) I take it dungeon by dungeon and is it completely necessary to live. Last season Mud was an option for Big Momma + 1st boss priory because at high enough levels, it was almost necessary to live depending on your comp. For example, if I had a ret pally in my comp, i felt I could drop my defensive trinket because I had Sac, but if I didn't then I felt like i needed mud for some bosses. In most cases though we try to find a balance of pure damage trinket or a strong offensive stat trinket because it can provide some defensive value, while being very strong offensively.
Something like a cheat death trinket was a crutch for years because people relied on it, but had little to no offensive value. HOWEVER... on classes that didn't have a natural cheat your weighing risk and reward. If you die as a tank in a high key, its a high chance its just over, so losing the damage of a single trinket can mean a timed key. So just depends on how much risk you want to take ^.^ cause unless ur doing WF keys, your personal damage should come secondary to living

Big Momma? At 13s, 14s, you should be able to still manage it without any defensive trinkets, but it certainly wouldn't hurt
The bigger issue is that a lot of healers currently pushing 13/14s are going to be struggling as a whole, so it's going to be harder for them to help you while also helping the group. There's a bit of pressure on both the tank and DPS, which is generally a decently rare scenario
At lower keys, the tank is pretty ignorable if they're playing well, meaning most healers haven't had to worry about pressure spreads like this until they've been there. Healers who are used to that have likely just straight passed that key level and are pushing harder keys
It could also be your own defensive management, as well, making there be more pressure than necessary. Without logs, it's hard to pinpoint a specific issue (or issues)
I just rotate shield wall for big momma tank busters on 13-14s, usually I dont have to worry about swapping out of Bstance especially since you have spell reflect available for every one
Big Momma isnt really an issue since you can rotate cds easily, especially if dwarf, but Priory Left Side Boss 1 is absolute nightmare fuel imo
I'm really sad I don't get to mythic raid this tier, there's not really any damage below a 15 that scares me and although its nice to have keys more dependent on damage done and not survivability it gets pretty boring as a tank

If he spits out a set value, we have to presume it is because that %shield/DR increase is what makes whatever he is thinking of doable.
A made up example: let us say you will take 12 million damage, and you got 10 million HP, then 10k versa would be what make up the difference of 2 mill HP you was looking for to live.

If you want to be really opti, you need to drop shield and sword later for the +3 ilvl, if you don't want to min max, you can go for looting as arm prob

New Prot player here. Question:
any tips on kicks? im progging into 15s/16s right now, so kicks are pretty important. i still end my runs with somewhere between 25-40 kicks, but I definitely miss quite a few due to the true melee range on pummel, mixed with the constant micro-adjustments for positioning. it either ends up that the mob is just outside of my range to kick, so kicking would involved stepping forward and getting melee'd in the back, or (using mouseover kick) simply kicking the wrong target because the intended target was just out of range, so the MO picked another.
just curious if anyone has any advice on this, or if its just how it is?
ive tried this before, but idk if maybe i was using it poorly, but the it felt clunky. it felt like i was locked into either kicking my current target or focus, nothing else (unless selecting the target manually, which seems like it defeats the purpose). but then i feel like i still have the melee range issue.
half and half. team of 3, usually, 2 pugs
kicking only focus target is fine. trying to switch kicks mid fight with MO is what will be causing the mistakes.
bind a focus macro, select a mob while going in to the pull and always kick that.
Use silence, stormbolt, shockwave when u need to kick/stop something out of your focus
my focus macro is a mouse over focus on middle mouse button, its also easy to switch targets mid pull if u need.
range issues are rare to me tbh, it sounds like a grouping issue? do you run with a dk/druid that can help with that more ?
Silence can also be a tool for grouping ranged casters if absolutely necessary
especially if u run with half-premade. it is very easy to say at start of pull "i kick star", focus it, and just kick it.
The rest can do the same communication, you can't carry kicks on your own.

i dont THINK its a grouping issue, cuz im not talking about mobs like way out of range. what im talking about is when your making micro-adjustments during the pull, like to stop mobs from wrapping around to your backside. baby steps here and there, that put me just barely out of range of a kick.
i do use disrupting shout as an emergency kick if i know i dont need it for something soon, and im using SB and shockwave on CD to get kicks.
but ill try using focus instead and see how it goes. im thinking maybe its just me needing to adjust to the melee kick? since i typically either play ranged, or something like DH with a 10yrd kick.
yeah the more panic you induce to yourself of trying to kick everything, the more mistakes you are likely to make.
ultimately you have to see what works for your group the best. There is only so much one person can do.
Try using automarkers or focus markers so u are sure people have a mob in focus
call DK grips on mobs out of position (e.g. surveyors in floodgate)
you will get used to the melle range the more you play

Best thing you can do to make stops easier is to be in disc and shotcall. Everyone kick their focus while prio dmg the right mob. Usually you’ll have 2 ppl per marker for mobs like obliterators in hoa and you weave aoe stops or silence when kicks are down. Or 1 person per marker for mobs like hundmasters or any mob with 15-21+ sec recast.
dont forget SR can save a kick too
I always assign who’s kicking which marker.
Really good groups kinda set up on the flight kicks on some mobs but I would recommend just sticking to markers.
The only one who got a dk don't want to play it again. So you try to find out another solution
You’ll never pull more than 2 surveyors. You should be a backup kick on those.
yea fair enough, in that case you need some extra coordination for remote stuns in a chaotic phase, will take more time to get through the phase that way

regarding focus kicks, you can have a mouseover kick too if someone yoinks your focus kick in a pug
Little late to the party but some tips for managing kicks in pugs
Set kick markers at the start of the key
Know the comp you invite and what kicks they have available. Let ranged kickers get ranged kicks, don’t try to out out to get the kick if it’s gonna get you hit in the back, just spam ping the mob
Know how your stuns Dr in your comp and try to use yours intelligently (ie if the shammy just cap totemed and the monk leg swept don’t send your shockwave
Understand how to get maximal use out of disrupting shout. You can shockwave mobs to sync timers then you can disrupt 3-5 casts in one gcd. Good example of this is the second miniboss pull in priory, as he comes down the stairs, gather the three caster packs, shockwave all of them, and then as soon as your stun wears off they will all cast - disrupt here and you have 6s of freedom
Know when to hold your kicks and when to send your kicks. Examples include letting web bolts off to ensure you have kicks for revolting volley in priory. Only kicking fireballs/smites in priory when toll is happening to ensure you have kicks for fireball volley.
Generally speaking more interrupts = better but once you get to 16/17 it becomes equally important to understand what is dangerous in general (what will wipe us), and what is dangerous in context (what will kill someone if it goes off in combination with something else)
If you’re on comms just use omnicd and have someone call kicks
A good boss mod plater integration is also great here as it will show cooldowns on big kicks

I have the same issue, our off-tank is also the raidlead. He's making calls and focusing on the group as well, not ideal as it tanks his DPS.
It definitely happens that I take threat from him, usually we can resolve before anythingg big happens by a quick shout "threat"

i don't think ti's a distraction thing since he's not rl'ing, i think it's maybe partially a rotation issue. i know logs aren't everything, but i'm regularly parsing in the high 90s and he's in the like 50s. he also pretty much always runs full defensive trinkets
Taunt gives you a massive threat bonus for a short window to the point it’s almost impossible for threat to be an issue barring huge gear disparities or dumb crit shenanigans (looking at you harmonic surge)
