Well you got the guide in #protection-faq, it is the WoWhead one.
As a totally new player, just keep this in mind:
- Shieldblock is your bread and butter, always keep it up 100% of the time while tanking. That is the 101, and mistake most people do.
- Ignore Pain is not mitigation, more than a ragedump. Only use it when you are having too much rage. Rage is better spent on getting more rage; you do that by casting revenge to get Shield Slam resets.
Just do some heroic keys or follower dungeons (NPC ones), then use details the addon, to check if your shieldblock uptime is around the 90-99% mark.
@blazing zinc ToP is one of the faster ones. 12 grant 20, 10s grant 16. If you somehow fail the 12 you get 16. Do 12s. Better players, better DPS, faster keys.

So I'm completely torn on Cartel Chip purchase priority. My guild is 2/8M, and most likely capping out in the 4-5 range. As such, stuff like Mythic HoC is unlikely, and Mythic Gally stuff (trinket, ring, shield) isn't realistic. With that in mind, my character goal is to reach my peak gear level for Mythic raid progression, and also push ~15 range keys. With that and my current character level in mind, I am hoping for feedback on my Chip Strategy:

That's a limit on its use; you have to sync casts, while a silence doesn't give a shit. A silence will also help with casts that can't be interrupted.
