I have been using a macro that always casts Shield Block before Shield Slam but now that I am doing higher keys I'm trying to get more refined in my damage mitigation. Did/Does anyone else use a macro like this? Do you always try to cast shield block to boost the damage of shield slam even if you aren't taking a lot of physical damage or if you already have other mitigation up?
I think there are some fundamental misunderstandings coming through in this comment. it's true that having sb up buffs your ss damage, but you don't press sb before ss to buff the damage. you keep sb up at all times. you also should not use a macro like that because it will sometimes cause you to spend rage on sb when you don't necessarily want to (e.g. near end of pull so you don't walk out of the pull with 15s on your sb for no reason)
You should shoot for having shield block up at all times but macro-ing it into other abilities isn't the way
Understood. That makes perfect sense, I got rid of the macro yesterday and added both to my bars separately. So there are times where I'm not taking much damage (at the end of a pull) or I have other mitigations up so I'm trying to keep shield block for the beginning of pulls (I'm focused on M+ here) and throughout the major damage portions of them. Or do you make sure as soon as SB is available you basically pop it?
you don't necessarily pop it on cooldown, but it the buff should be up 100% of the time you're in combat
The main reason I'm asking is I have noticed I have been overlapping my damage mitigations too much without needing to.
like if your sb has 7 seconds and you're on 70 rage. you have another sb charge. you could sb again to bring it up to 15s, or you could IP to give yourself some healing. probably the IP is better.
don't think of sb + something as "overlapping". sb is just baseline.
Something’s going wrong if you’re having to pick and choose when to put up shield block, you should just be able to keep it up at all times
demo, spell block, shield wall you likely want to avoid overlapping most of the time, but sb is just kinda there

If aesthetics are a concern, Tauren males specifically are heavily restricted in terms of mog, especially chest pieces, speaking as lifelong cow
Chests end up very stretched and usually don't look good, so you usually have to sub in a tabard to make them look better. Your Helm, Shoulders, and gloves are like 95% of your mog, and boots almost entirely don't exist except for the rare hoof guard shoes

Hey all, I am an offspec tank, but I am tanking 10s 80% of my runs. My gear is mostly prioritized for fury so lots of haste/mastery. I only have 5% vers which seems real low. 24% crit and haste. Should I be focusing on more vers over crit/haste for tank gear I get?

The largest portion of tank survival comes directly from your play than any secondary combination, as they're all close enough defensively that you're fine

If you have a DK, it makes the job 1000x easier but without a DK, i usually always pull the boss in a corner of the room so the ads spawn closer, and then i'll round up the melee ads around the boss then dash on one mage, and pray that my team interrupts the 2nd mage, once the first mage is dead you go to the 2nd one
Also theres a 3rd orb i can pick up for that fight that i usually use on a set of ads

At +12, you no longer get the xalatah affix, now all mobs and bosses gain a permanent +10% health and dmg done, on top of fortified and tyrannical and the key bonus too
Yes not having to do the affix mechanic can be a benefit, but you also lose the big buffs they provide

while my main in 4 clears of 3/8 mythic won rolls for one item...
Stonevault and grim are usually the 2 i would consider the hardest dungeons

I wouldnt say that its harder, raid tanking is just very different from mythic+ tanking

If you want to get a quick rundown of raid mechanics i recommend ready check pull videos they usually tell whats important to do in each role for every boss on heroic and normal difficulty

I would max out the myth track first obviously, then spend crests on getting weapon/shield crafted if you havent already. then upgrade the best in slot items you have in hero tier.
myth 1/6 starts at 623, so you technically lose crests by maxing heroic pieces
Maxing hero gets you 626 so you only get 3 level of no crest upgrade if you max your hero gear before getting your mythic
I wonder maybe the exception to that is maxing out the ara kara trinket
all depends on how much you hate farming crests

Hello, got potentially stupid question. Attempted tanking +5 yesterday as 601 prot warrior and got completly obliterated on some packs. Issue is I played PvP as Arms before I started tanking M+ and was wondering, how huge of a difference does shield make? It's probably my lowest ilvl piece currently being 580 pvp shield and was thinking if I should craft one or it's not that big of a deal and its more of a skill issue
early season it's very punishing with the limited cap, but at this point it's just how much you're willing to farm

Whats the best way to go about finding whats slapping me in 12 keys? Examples would be 1st pull in NW, GB or say 3rd pull in Siege. Seems to always be while I’m pulling

No max for haste. You won't hit crit or vers DRs if you're focusing entirely on haste. Crit gives extra parry chance.
You pretty much never go wrong equipping haste on every single gear piece and then Crit or vers as the other option
Also if you want to min max dps then simulate your gear and equip what it recommends
Im focusing on min maxing the "how many dps can I do, while still be tanky enough to tank the highest keys" 😄
You don't really have to think about how tanky you are at all. It just comes with the stats

You only absolutely need haste, because you need rage generation and cooldown reduction. I'm also haste crit.

There was a big copy pasta from the VDH discord of how much Vers you needed for it to actually make a difference and it’s like an absurd amount to make your key level feel like it’s “one level easier”

Fury most of the time for me. Just dislike Arms current game play loop.

Arms, Stat wise works. Haste/crit, overall it will be whatever you enjoy. Both are good.
I find way too many people are running in to the fray in M+ with low haste which is trolling the healer. Especially in the 8-10 key range. Shield block should be >95%.
But I found most people running ITF have <60% uptime.

You can’t get that uptime though running ITF with 30% haste.
You'll easily have 90%+ with 30% haste and itf.
You'll still get the odd 2-3 sec sb gap in combat if you aren't smart about letting it falloff in safer parts of pulls.
It is just so much easier to run HR for beginners but people just look at the top logs and copy paste talents.

It's probably better for most people in s1 to run HR, for the sake of total % blocked hits, true.
But a player that has 60% sb uptime with ITF is a player that is going to have 62% uptime with HR.
Because they aren't pressing buttons correctly in the first place.
Or is it just because the 8% haste you get is not hit by Diminishing returns?
ITF is a multiplier on your total printed haste value.
Think lot of people sleep on their shield charge cd giving another sb charge
If you have 30% haste from your total secondary haste stat, then your total printed haste value is 130%, and ITF is giving you 130 * 1.08 = 10.4% more haste.
And yes, that is added as a flat haste % value, not as a converted secondary stat, so it is never affected by any DR we might run into.
Not that it matters in s1, it's relatively difficult to hit even the first haste DR.

hello friends i have a question - i know its a prot warr discord - im looking for an easy tank to play and push keys - currently plaing dk blood but i need an alt to play and enjoy - im thinking about prot warr or guardian druid - which one in ur opinion is easier or just better? both of them kinda seem easy to play
Wild Strikes and Enduring Alacrity work in the same way, fwiw.
It's an alt, try both, do the one you have more fun playing.
I play guardian, Ret and Pro Warrior. And do 10/11s tanking.
Guardian is fun. But spell reflect is way more fun in M+. I feel they are pretty similar, maintain iron fur or shield block. I do pull differently depending on which I’m playing which is a nice mix.
Like Thukker said play which you like most.
Guardian was fun for me for like the first week or two, but the rotation is really boring ngl, playing warrior is just so much more engaging, plus I was doing 2x better as warrior then guardian druid even at a lower ilvl, currently doing 11s on warrior and the rotation imo is just so fun, it feels like a tank ngl
prot warrior isn't hard at all, just hard to master, guardian druid is just knowing what to do and doing it, prot warrior has a higher skill ceiling imo
Hello. Is there a shild block macro, which cast shield block ONLY if its not up? So if it is up for more than 1 sec the macro doesnt cast shield block just ignore pain?

I don't know, I think most of the people that really like the mythic+ content don't care about the loot, and aren't that bothered by the key level dropping. We'll usually have a few other people with keys at the same level, or 1 key level down feels like night and day, and it's just a breeze to get it back up
M+ you logon and get declined from 150 keys then logoff
i think they do care else why would they come and then get mad when the key implodes
cuz you clearly get way less rewards for not doing it
When you're running 14s people don't actually get mad when the key is failed
It's normally "gg good try" and then hearth on the first wipe
No one cares about the loot. We care about our key going down then it's that much more of a time sink to get it back to a point where it's worth +io again

Yeah that's not wrong. I'd actually like an alternate to m+ where the difficult scaling is massive, but there's no timer.
The timer is what makes it worth doing, but I think there's been a pretty strong consensus for a while now that there needs to be better opportunity to practice keys.
i think there should be a timer that runs in the normal mode and above dungeons if you want to display it, and it does nothing

When I want to time a 15 but I need to do an extremely dangerous first pull that requires a lot of practice to do correctly, it's a huge pain to have that key immediately become irrelevant when that first pull fails, and then for it to require 6 hours of keys that aren't that one to get it back.

Slick, try some 12s with a pug and hate your life. The difficulty difference is massive, and you get a death on almost every pull. The only reliable way to time it is if you play really well as a tank to pull massive and make up for the death count

and i looked at the tool tips a little tiny bit, it gets an increase in dmg from battleshout but not avatar it seems
for me at 618.6 ilvl, with just battleshout it shows as hitting for 75k - 90k? (not sure how high it goes)dmg
says it hits for 500% on shields, fight like the rock in stone vaults it could be good there, thats 350k if it gets full value and then crit would be 700k,
potential 700k every 45 seconds doesnt sound too bad

If your health bar moved, and shield block wasn't active, then you fucked up. If your health bar isn't moving, you don't need it up.

deathray, it has a cast time and my shield slams hit for 2 million. There's no world that I'd waste a potential 2 shield slams for a single 700k shattering throw

You get a dungeon where mobs spend like 75% of their time casting, you can get by with less. Dawnbreaker, for example
