Well yeah, but that's a big part of it - your grouping doesn't need to be perfect and you're still hitting everything, every second spear spends off cd waiting for the group to get tight enough to hit everything is a dps loss and sending it without a perfect group that hits less targets than troar does is a dps loss.
If you're a gamer playing with gamers spear is probably the right answer, but I'd wager 95% of people playing pwar will make bigger numbers with troar.

also yes the best way is to run dungeons with prot loot spec, and/or to craft one with enchanted weathered
shield very important for prot, so higher ilvl is always better
AH shields might not be worth, but are good to start with
just know that you dont have to run as prot, just prot loot spec

I don’t find any sort of rush when I play, but they’re your main 4 to worry about apm wise. The rest are just press on cd or press on pull and defensives. Outside of revenge/execute which are proc based or if you’re fishing for a SS
Also macro your ravager and spear to your feet or cursor, that saves time and effort too.
Demo shout before shield charge and you’re set for the rest really.
