I’m almost certain the absorb is separate from the damage considering the absorb lasts 20s and the damage last 10s. Either way the logic is it’s already a survivability loss to equip it so if it isn’t doing roughly that much damage for you then there’s no point because splinter will give you more survivability through main stat, not force you to use it offensively, and provide more damage through your abilities.
