If the prove unable to dodge in the middle of a key, your choices are to either see if they can manage pulling the pats or just give up the key, but you should always default to skipping, especially if you've properly vetted people before hand

heres a route I would run in a 23 EB this week
timer is not the issue; but out of control bolstering is
you can invis pot/shroud/mind smoothe after pull 11 to get to 2nd boss; after boss, you can pull the pack behind seperate from abom
also, tag the attendents around the pyro dude; I would do pyro separate time permitting so you dont get bolstered cinderstorm
ideal classes for you if you are pugging; I would grab like a Ret, Fire, Spriest with a monk/druid healer. But really, you want the prio damage that fire and spriest bring.
oh, and make sure you write out kicks for second boss and the triple mage pack
usually tank covers toxic and mage or healer kick on revitilize; let the other members yolo kicks

might as well get pull 3 and skip abom
b) grabbing specs like fire for a 23 is not your best option if you want to time the key

What's the general consensus on giving up Battering Ram vs Bloodsurge for talents like Disrupting Shout? I know Battering Ram sims higher but what's the defensive value like between them? I just always assumed Battering Ram was the better choice to keep but I notice Plka seemingly giving up Battering Ram and Sense seemingly giving up Bloodsurge.

The ST sim is what threw me off the most. I don't see how Bloodsurge seems to be losing to Battering Ram in generation, but ultimately it doesn't FEEL worse. Not sure if it's a sim issue or what. Ultimately I just want to be able to take the proper talent for defensive value when defensiveness matters (such as Fort Bolstering).

Yes, that surprised me too. At the start of DF it was "meta" and then shifted to prot pala. That's why I asked myself why that was the case. There weren't any major talent changes and the set bonuses probably weren't that strong either.

We are way stronger than we were in S1.
The few changes that were made for Prot since S1, were all buffs.
The thing is that other tanks got way more changes / buffs, which made them the "FOTM".
And since the majority of big streamers play FOTM to push the highest keys, people started seeing prot as "bad" since their favourite streamer diddn't play it anymore.

It only ever becomes a problem when pushing like actual top end keys, where very minor mistakes will shoot your chances of timing. Community perception just likes to dogpile to ego stroke, though, and people need reasons to feel correct, so
It's a lot better to have the mindset you have and just play what you have fun with. If that's playing Prot War, do that. If it's playing meta to try and push world first keys, do that. i'm preaching to the choir to you, but i hope others can read this and adjust
