Hello everyone. I have a PC with an RX 9070 XT, and I'm having problems with black screens. Both tabs freeze, but the PC doesn't restart, and the audio continues. I've tried countless things since I've seen that this is a common problem. My GPU is a PowerColor Hellhound with only two PCIe slots. I've noticed that the factory frequency values that Adrenalyn sets are 3300MHz with peaks of almost 3400MHz, with 420W peaks, quite a bit higher than the factory settings. I lowered PowerLimit to -27, and now it's at the manufacturer's OC values, 3010Mhz, 3050Mhz peaks, 340W peaks. What's the result, Adrenalyn no longer restarts constantly (before, just changing the fans caused the application to constantly reset the values), and the black screens seem to have stopped; not a single black screen in six hours.

Does anyone know why Adrenalyn applies these frequencies by default? Is this normal?

Deactivate any overclocks and / or tuning you may have applied, including AMD EXPO

#

I try it too. I put all stock values and still crashing

young sandal
#

EXPO is still enabled

hallow scroll
#

I try with a gtx1070 and all works fine

young sandal
#

Disable it

#

Also send a screenshot of your windows settings -> windows update -> update history -> driver updates

hallow scroll
young sandal
#

EXPO is currently enabled

hallow scroll
#

In my MSI B850 EXPO in reset values is set to disabled

#

No updates

#

All updates and GPO are disabled

young sandal
#

Driver Updates

#

Not uninstall updates

hallow scroll
#

I dont have no one installed

#

Thats why the option dont appear

young sandal
#

Hmm

#

What's the filename of the driver you installed?

hallow scroll
#

Now i has the 26.3.1, the filename is "whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-26.3.1-win11-b (1).exe"

young sandal
#

Yeah

#

Go to the driver release notes website and download the one linked there

#

Should end with "-c"

#

Clean install that one.

hallow scroll
#

i dont undertand you men

#

the autodecteteable?

young sandal
#

No, on the driver release notes website a driver is linked that ends with -c

hallow scroll
#

ah ok whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-26.3.1-win11-c.exe

#

i found it, whats the difference between the other installer?

young sandal
hallow scroll
#

iGPU now is disabled in BIOS. But im going to try it aswell. Leaving the stock GPU values

#

And see if it crashes

young sandal
#

Yeah

#

Stock CPU and memory too

hallow scroll
#

Yeah i have my OC saved in a profile so i can restore it fast if it doesnt work

#

Stock values and expo off

hallow scroll
#

I reset all BIOS settings and reinstalled the drivers using DDU (using the -c command) in safe mode with the network disconnected. After about 40 minutes, I got a black screen. The frequencies shown by HWMonitor while I was playing were still extremely high, peaking at 3400MHz and hovering around 3300MHz. That's 300MHz higher than the manufacturer's OC profile. After the crash, I disabled ZeroRPM, played a quick 5-minute game, and after the game, the configuration had reset and ZeroRPM was enabled again.

#

Is it normal for Adrenalyn to apply these frequencies by default?

young sandal
#

boost clocks always come down to the exact workload

#

post a screenshot of GPU-Z with the render test running

#

you can start the test by clicking on the questionmark on the right edge

hallow scroll
#

Now it doesnt come to 3400 but it stil over 3200 all time

young sandal
#

mind using HWInfo?

hallow scroll
young sandal
hallow scroll
#

?

young sandal
#

do that please

hallow scroll
#

gpu-z has render test integrated?

#

Or another like Furmark

#

With furmark, the fgrequencies are really low. The problem is on gaming

#

And not with all games

young sandal
hallow scroll
#

Look, I'm not going to keep installing drivers like crazy... The problem seems to be with the frequencies. Do you know if the frequency spikes I'm getting are normal? Does that happen with all versions?

#

And i already try that version

#

And same error

young sandal
#

was that a clean install?

hallow scroll
#

all drivers version that i test i do it with clean install

young sandal
#

still got that driver in your download directory?

#

if so, whats the exact filename

hallow scroll
#

i dont have it, but it doesnt be the -c

#

But the problem is the frequencies. Because if I lower the frequency values, Edrenalyn doesn't constantly reset. If I keep the default values, it keeps restarting the configuration.

young sandal
#

see if your card has a VBIOS switch - if it does, flip it

#

and restart your PC after that

#

and then take another GPU-Z screenshot

hallow scroll
#

yes it has

#

i try it

young sandal
#

okay, see if you still crash now

hallow scroll
#

Im testing lets see

#

Probably thats the problem. The OC vbios profile and the bad fraquency mangament of adrenalyn

hallow scroll
#

It's definitely a matter of frequencies and power peaks. Disactivating the OC profile no longer crashes

#

Look at the peaks I had before porencia, and that without crashing

hallow scroll
#

540W peak…

young sandal
#

thats normal

hallow scroll
#

2 pcie 180W pcie 75W

#

Its far the limits

young sandal
#

these are transients

hallow scroll
#

When i force the frquency and W come down the graphic looks stable

#

You know how can i report it to amd supoort?

#

For future optimizarions on updates

young sandal
#

if anything you'd want to contact your GPU manufacturer for that

#

in your case PowerColor

hallow scroll
#

@young sandal Thank you so much for your replies. I'll probably request an RMA since it's not holding a stable factory overclock. Best regards.

young sandal

#

Im going to monitor it saving in log file and see what hit before crashing. But its not stable with the OC button on, in silent mode all works fine

#

This clearly indicates a problem with the GPU and how it operates at high frequencies. I've seen that there are quite a few RMAs for the Hellhound 9070XT for the same reason.
