I could totally change the art and we could work together on something else. There are already big groups that have planned out spots on the canvas.

Is there a time limit for the r/place logo entries? We just started the logo contest for NMSTG sub which will run through April. Would probably need to wait until at least May before starting another logo contest🤔 Maybe some of the other mods can weigh in on this

Ooh you're busy I see. Although r/Place hasn't yet been officially announced this year, the dates it ran in 2017 and last year, 2022 were April 1st - April 4. So that'd be the expected timeframe if Reddit runs it again which various folks are counting on.

Hello NMS community,

There are credible leaks that r/place may return for 2023 this Saturday, April 1st. The sources are from people who data mine (that’s all I know). I have also heard rumors that Reddit may not announce r/place this year ahead of time like they did last year, and would just roll it out Saturday with no prior announcement. IF r/place does happen again, I have already taken upon myself to lay some preliminary groundwork for a potential art collaboration with NMS and the Galactic Hub. It would be best to be prepared days before.

First, I want to bring this element of my efforts so far to your attention. I found out earlier this week that there is a sizable Discord alliance already formed and preparing for r/place. I am not privy to link to that Discord, but I can say that it is made up of most of the big art factions that would be participating. They are making deals for space and have a working template on the factions that have been accepted into the alliance. What they are about is protecting members from invasion AFTER the art pieces have been built. In order to be accepted into the alliance, we would need an adequate amount of people for the size of the piece we are trying to build. Ideally, they want a member to be able to build their piece completely in 30 minutes to an hour after r/place starts. Again, the alliance would protect each other from attacks, but we would have to hold our own in building the art piece first. There are 3 of us currently in that Discord right now: me, someone from the Galactic Hub, and someone from the main NMS. What would you all think of going that route? Do we want to join a big alliance that would reserve us a spot on the canvas if we had enough people per the amount of pixels our piece would be? This brings us to what I’ve been working on for the last 2 days.

At first, I had an idea to make Galactic Hub art, potentially for r/place. Then, when the alliance discord said we wouldn’t have enough numbers for the size of the piece I had in mind, I trimmed it down to the current version. You can see it in this Reddit post:

This is still ambitious in my opinion for the Galactic Hub only. After receiving feedback, I had the idea to ask the main NMS Discord if they wanted to possibly partner on one piece together. If we did that, the Galactic Hub part of it would obviously be smaller on the piece. Or if we had enough people we could keep this design and have it alongside the main NMS artwork. I would love to see what art others can come up with my idea in mind.

What do you all think about this plan? Thanks for considering all this. Maybe we can bring NMS to life on the canvas in a big way.

We are close to getting approved to join a greater alliance of factions that will build beside each other during r/place. After long talks, they think the NMS and Galactic Hub communities have enough manpower to have a big spot on the canvas. They have reserved us a spot under Daft Punk (that is all I can reveal.)

I have done prelim artwork. I copied the Atlas design from last year, and done my own Galactic Hub artwork. If there is anyone here who could do the Galactic Hub logo better with the pixel space allocated you are welcome to.

We would also have extra space to work in smaller designs in the blue portions they have allocated to us.

We might have to conceed the southwest blue portion to a smaller faction who might want to join that alliance, but the top blue space would be ours to work with.

I hope to see a lot of interest and feedback on this. If r/place happens Saturday, we will be prepared.

I was thinking races like the anomaly and korvax would look great under Daft Punk. And we could do glyphs, that would work well with pixels.

@peak harness Ccowl and I were wondering if you'd be able to help us make a post about this in our subreddit to raise awareness once we have something more concrete ofc, before or at least when r/place goes live -- which can be April 1st, if the data mined leaks are true ofc, or potentially June being the other potential timeframe rumored for it.

Ccowl's has been trying to plan things, getting an r/place alliance which would benefit our community in trying to get the NMS and Galactic Hub art to not be taken over by other communities once the r/place campaign starts.

So r/place may return for real this time on June 23rd (Reddit's 18th anniversary.) I have organized and prepped everything and have made our art for the space that was given to us by the alliance we are in. I don't want to rev everyone up this time though. We just have to wait and see what happens in the days or day leading up to that date in case Reddit makes an announcement for it.

I've been out of the loop. I haven't looked at the plans in a month. I'm going to post what I had written up. Let me find it.

1. Download the ViolentMonkey userscript manager for your browser. For Chrome the link is here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/violentmonkey/jinjaccalgkegednnccohejagnlnfdag
2. Go here: https://github.com/osuplace/templateManager and download the overlay for placing pixels (it will tell you what colors to place where).
3. Go here: https://www.reddit.com/r/place/#jsontemplate=https://rentry.co/nmsplace2023/raw Zoom in and you should be able to see the NMS art on the overlay at (803, 647).

The other art that appears on the overlay are from other factions in the P3ACE Alliance. If we get the NMS art piece stable and finished, we help other alliance members.

I won't be able to be online until tomorrow evening as I had not planned on this and this is a total surprise.

If it does indeed happen tomorrow, is it possible to set up a temporary channel for r/place instead of just a forum thread? Others in the P3ACE Alliance could find our discussion easier.

I would also like to get the tactical-guidance channel that's in the P3ACE server temporarily added for r/place.

I hate that I'm the one that set all this ground work up and probably won't be able to be on when it starts. I had taken vacation days a month ago because most people were sure it was happening June 23.

A collaborative project and social experiment hosted on Reddit. It involves an online canvas located at a subreddit called r/place, which registered users could edit by changing the color of a single pixel from a 16-color palette.
