"Hacktivist group Anonymous has successfully breached and leaked about 200GB of emails from Belarusian weapons manufacturer Tetraedr. This company has provided Vladimir Putin with logistical support in his invasion of Ukraine."
oh ffs.so it seems ... iodine tablets are sold out in germany now. because the horse-dewormer brigade heard about chernobyl or so. but, the only ones they could buy are the ones used for people with thyroid problems. so those cant get them now.
there is so much wrong with this i dont even know where to start ... a) the dosage. you would have to eat like 500+ of the freely avail iodine tablets to get the dosage of a "antirad" one. (no, no, dont buy a whole crate now! i never said this...) ... b) iodine tablets would be entirely useless against the kind of radiation in chernobyl these days. ... c) antirad iodine tablets have to be very carefully timed. as in, if you take them too early/late relative to the exposure they will be useless at best, but probably even harmful ...
This is the demon semen, 5G etc crowd...
“If someone doesn't value evidence, what evidence are you going to provide to prove that they should value it? If someone doesn’t value logic, what logical argument could you provide to show the importance of logic?”
- Sam Harris
i appreciate you quoting Sam Harris

Despite the source, I've always liked this one too:
"Contradictions do not exist. Whenever you think you are facing a contradiction, check your premises. You will find that one of them is wrong."
-Ayn Rand
😁
lots of good quotes from her tbh. dont blame her for her fanbois, thats about as useful as calling "Starship Troopers" pro-fasc. 😄
Agreed, and that's why I'm prone to using the quote lol.
"Yeah what she said... Oh, wait..."
It can break the "OODA loop"
Sam doesn't.
Get your own quotes
-Sam Harris
The same rule exists for paradoxs
Paradoxes do not exist. They are only a demonstration of a fundamental misunderstanding of the universe.
Yes, false premises, same principle
Thats why these drugs need to be regulated so that people can't just buy them off the shelf and destroy the supply over a conspiracy
yes and no. they are the wrong "supplies" to begin with. there is nothing wrong with pre-distributed anti-rad iodine tablets in the population in general. assuming you have a vaguely sane population. 😅
I'm surprised they aren't sucking on charcoal
That's not a safe assumption
which i have become sadly aware of, over the last 1-2 years. 😦
(actualy, "medical charcoal" from my pov is something that should be in any household medicine cabinet, but, uh...)
I posted a really interesting article on the whole dewormer/covid thing a while back, and it was a very rational, eye on the evidence take.
I'm surprised it didn't get more traction nationally, but it makes too much sense I suppose.
TL;DR The studies that do show a benefit, do so with decent evidence.
The problem is those studies were done on populations known to be likely to have worms and worms worsen covid.
It all becomes clear, unless you really don't want it to.
Would be like saying covid is less deadly on people who are healthy, ignoring what covid does entirely to the human body and then assuming if you survive covid you must be healthy.
I hate disingenuous studies.
They're always taken out of context and used for political purposes
yes and no there. f.ex. i actualy did take vit D boosters in 2020. at the time, the studies said "might help". did some additional research, determined "doesnt hurt even if it doesnt help" (if you are reasonable about dosage!). checked prices, 20 bucks for a year supply at "doesnt hurt, might help" dosage. so my call on that was "why not".
Hanlon's razor comes to mind, I'm not convinced the studies were disingenuous.
Confounds etc get overlooked all the time.
Feynman's "easiest person to fool" applies as well.

@dawn quartz i read the "oh, they gave 'roids to people with parasites, uh, yeah, that isnt good for the stats" part back then. 😄
or, more, 😓
I've come to realize it's just human nature.
Even with educated people who are expected to know and do better, eg healthcare providers, it's shocking to me how averse to evidence people are as a whole.
We're really just stupid and full of biases, the lot of us lol
the thing that gets me there ... i am doing infosec things by daylight, and 3 years ago i used to mock people who dont install updates on their systems as IT antivaxxers, because (at the time) it seemed like the most compact way to say/demonstrate how silly that is.
These people truly believe the government is trying to microchip them etc, so the vaccine is literally the virus in their minds.
They even have memes about it.
I mock people who update but don't read their updates before hand. I appreciate windows and Nvidia let you customize updates to a degree in that regard.
So much superfluous additions in updates meant only for people of a particular taste
i dont. thats what testing is for. as in, deploy to testing, watch if it causes problems, if not, deploy to live. 😅
Uh, no. You shouldn't still be in testing when the consumer is using the update.
no, i meant, as the customer i still have a "testing" stage for deploying updates. because vendor will never be able to test all usecases. so the testing for my usecases is done on my side.
That doesn't really have anything to do with people updating stuff they don't use.
if fedora wants to update libwhateverzefuq here, i let fedora update it, because in general i have no idea if/whether/where libwhateverzefuq might be used for.
if that causes problems, i roll back to last-working snapshot, which takes 1-3 minutes.
I went to sleep last night mulling over this situation in Ukraine. Ended up reflecting on my childhood and the concept of "The innocence of youth". I was so ignorant to the world and the impact global affairs have on local constructs.
Everything from logistics to society
How people behave. Where prejudices come from. Why certain things cost more.
for me there were two "memorable" events like that. otoh, the very peaceful breakup of Czechoslovakia into its "czech" and "slovak" parts. they decided they want to be two countries, and were incredibly pragmatic about it. hell, at first they even kept their old money, just put stamps on it to mark which side that money now belonged to.
otoh, the complete incomprehensible mess in Yugoslavia. people deciding they need to kill their neighbours, at scale. i still dont understand that one.
The snake island guys may be still alive
that would be very, very epic.
The Ukrainian border guard posted it on Facebook
@sleek river that would be 13 persons who never have to pay for a beer ever again.
Kadyrov said that he doesn't want to fight Ukrainians after seeing how many weapons they have
the ramzan one? how is his beard involved?
He said that he's forces arrived in Ukraine and apparently one of his warlords was killed
(oh, right, i read about chechen troops being in UA. and that they were among the least-untrained parts. but i kinda filed that as "russian troops that had been deployed to chechnia", not "actualy chechnen" ... oops on my part.)
semi-related ... did you all see what the german "support" for ukraine was so far? the 5k helmets idiocy?
because, as of 1h ago ... "The German military will send 1,000 anti-tank weapons and 500 "Stinger" class surface-to-air missiles to Ukraine amid the ongoing Russian invasion, the government has announced."
Nah guns being sent
Well currently at least
i will believe that when i see it reported from third parties, because the helmets thing was idiotic to begin with, and it still took them two weeks? as in, i am not even sure the helmets are there now...
Odessian citizens have like thousands of Molotov bottles
yeah. i am in general reluctant to consider shipping weapons to a warzone being any kind of good idea. but the pics of their molotov crates was where "uh, perhaps we should send them some ammo at least" did cross my mind.
also, this guy ... turns out to be pretty cool.
⚡️Russian artillery fire has struck Kyiv's children's cancer hospital Okhmadyt, killing one child and wounding two, along with two adults, TSN reported.
Eyewitnesses reported that the city is under fire from multiple-launch rocket systems.

Good
One thing to keep in perspective: Yes, the Russians are having a lot of problems but it’s day 3 of the war
On day 3 of the war in 2003, Jessica Lynch and her convoy had been captured by Iraqi forces and there was a lot of media commentary then of how the US was losing the fight

i have no info beyond that.

Ain't that old news?
sortof? i had not seen it confirmed from any "third parties" so far.
one thing about both sides claims of "we destroyed this-or-that" is ... we have seen very little image material related to it. a crashed il-76 is not subtle.
i am not looking for gore shots, but ... a crashed/shot-down plane leaves artifacts. a lot of them. and pics of that is something the hardware-nerds can work with. and they will absolutely rip your pics a new one if you try to pass off random pics as "it shows what our propaganda department announced".
They are doing a commendable job of collecting and vetting Ukraine info over on the Stak's History Hub server
The Snake Island surrender bit appears to be TASS propaganda
i am still on the "Project owl" side of things, but yes.
ouch.
''On a special Saturday edition of Russian propaganda talk show Vremya Pokazhet, Maria Butina condemns the Kyiv authorities for handing out rifles because "people don't know how to handle them and a child might be killed at home"
I don't think that's on Ukrainians' minds right now''
...
''Maria Butina didn’t talk like that when she was fucking her way through the NRA.''
this person: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Butina
''russian soldiers trying to match on tinder with women from the country they’re invading and then getting catfished for intel is such a weird “we live in the future” moment''
I love the tinder angle lmao
tinder-triangulation has been demonstrated before, but never in an active warzone.
"Am told only 34% in Ukrain are vaccinated for COVID. Emergency aid should include plentiful vax supplies."
Vice said one of their journalists was arrested in Moscow last night. And Germany is supplying weapons. I was skiing today so I might be behind on the news.
germany went from "we may supply a bunch of useless helmets in a few weeks" to "we allow netherlands to supply weapons made in germany" to "we may supply some actual weapons on our own" over the last 24h.
Ah ok. So Netherlands gets credit for the rocket grenades
Or both
So it took them a while.
depends on what number you are looking at. if there is "400" mentioned, its the netherlands part.
😄
Everything is like molasses cuz of politics.
So what's the deal with Ukraine in Nato but Georgia can't get in?
ukraine absolutely can not get into nato.
(for the last several years. and currently. by nato rules.)
Ah. I misunderstood
ayn rand had some pretty decent examples of that. 😄
Or like a slow moving turd that gets stuck
And is painful to watch happen in real time
afaik i am much closer to the "military" version of decision making than the "political" one. as in, look at the info you have, then make a decision and start doing things. much better than doing nothing.
can result in shit happens and you having to explain why you made decision X at time Y based on info Z.
worked reasonably well for me so far. and i did have to explain x/y/z more than once.
I understand.
I can get stir crazy if I sit and twiddle my thumbs overanalyzing everything. And watching life pass you by as you can't make a decision
i can absolutely do both. but when in contingency mode, "do what looks right right now" has been better than average so far.
Wow a recent poll shows 3/4 of Russians blame the US and Nato. I didn't expect that judging all the protests. But they're in the minority.
recommend to take any numbers like that with a grain of salt.
the pics of the russian protests were very surprising to me. that takes a lot of proverbial balls.
I don't have access to the polling to see how it was done. Cuz any voluntary studies are faulty.
Yea it does.
To listen to people criticize putin in Moscow interviewed and not hide their face in Public
and i am also still surprised how much UA is dominating the online propaganda field. which is something i would have rated RU very skilled at.
Yea
I mean they hacked yahoo email back in 2016 which affected my email pretty bad. I had to open a new one
i still suspect there may be some cyber-cyber going on in the background.
not talking about anonymous there. but something seems to have disabled/neutralized large parts of the russian troll army network.
Thousands arrested
Crazy stuff
"Do not believe the fakes. I am here. We will not lay down arms. We will defend our state because our weapon is truth, and our truth is that this is our land, our country, our children & we will defend it all. That’s what I wanted to tell you. Glory to Ukraine."

A recent poll from a country that polls elections by stuffing ballots. Yeah I believe that.
and ... they just keep coming.
@dawn quartz someone described it as the protest of constript's moms. and pointed out to be afraid of russian moms. 😄
but not only on the russian side either. did you see/read the thing with the "sunflower curse"?
Lol wise words.
I saw a similar sentiment about what might happen if Russia's aging population would suffer long term, due to national economic hardship.
"streets full of angry babushki" lol
Yes that's epic, and as a coincidence I changed my gaming twitter pfp to a sunflower about a week and a half ago lol
"We have captured around 200 Russian soldiers, some around 19 years old. Not trained at all. Badly equipped." Ukraninan Major General Borys Kremenetsky says. "We allow them to call their parents. Parents completely surprised."
157
someone called it the first war where soldiers on both sides could yell at each other on twitter.
If my impression of how poorly executed this has all been on Russia's part is accurate, I actually fear for the near future.
Is it a bunch of foreign prisoners they sent out untrained?
Yesterday I felt hopeless - now I feel hope and am proud of how EU finally united to give weapons aid to Ukraine and showing green light to kicking Russia out of SWIFT.
And I am very happy to hear all the news about the stiff resistance from Ukrainians and the wavering morale of Russian troops.
Jesus, it's like Stalingrad again. Fresh-faced recruits given either bullets or a rifle without ammunition and sent to die.
except, this time around, the communications seem to be better? if they grabbed them and let them call scary-russian-babushka, that would be a major psyops win on the ukrainian side.
Yea thas why I'm wondering if they brainwashed any foreigners they arrested and stuff.
i dont really think that requires any brainwashing.
Just torture. Use them as fodder unfortunately before the real troops
oh, wait, you meant brainwashing on the russian side? afaik thats just called "basic training".
Yea.
Idk the journalist and protestors getting arrested gave me unmarked vans in Oregon creepy vibes.
Saw a video earlier today about a lone Russian soldier sitting and just crying on stairs of some building while Ukrainian civilians told him he was not welcome.
I deff don't think some of them are there by choice sadly.
Like North Korea holds families hostage to invoke compliance out of fear.
I have gone through a year long military service as a conscript of the Finnish Defence Forces, and I know how even a short military exercise, lack of sleep etc can gnaw morale very quickly to the point of losing all will to fight and just give up. Now these troops have been in a military exercise for weeks on the border of Ukraine, believing they'd get back home and to get some rest soon, but instead they get sent to an even more stressful situation where they can lose their lives attacking a country that is putting a very stiff resistance against them and clearly saying what they are doing is wrong.
And yeah, another aspect is that they are afraid of what would happen to their families.
if UA is really making them "call their parents" that is a real great move. because that will absolutely fuel protests.
because yes. thousands arrested.
but, uh, even gulags have a a capacity limit? and "just shoot them all in the streets" doesnt work too well in times of tiktok?
Anonymous is helping tremendously with hacking TV channels and spreading awareness about what is actually happening in Ukraine.
Nah. That would of been a nazi tactic. But we have more technology and stuff now on it all.
and, just to roughly summarize ... managing to piss off the US, EU, UN, NATO, the vatican, the taliban and pornhub at the same time is some kind of record benchmark for "ok, this might have been a bad move".
Didn't know they pissed off the Taliban.
Doesn't sound like Putin is stable anymore if he ever was sadly.
Taliban condemned Putler's actions against Ukraine
I didn't know that.
they did! the friggen taliban put out a press release asking them to perhaps talk about it instead of shooting each other.
That surprises me honestly.
semi-unrelated ... did you read the report from that preggo kiwi journo some weeks ago?
No idk who that is sorry.
Ukrainians can be very proud of their president as well - not retreating like most politicians would and continuing the fight. What a chad.
A few hours ago he asked Elon Musk to provide Starlink for Ukraine in case internet is cut from the people. Sounds like something Elon Musk would totally do "because I can".
female journalist from new zealand, who had been declared infertile before, got unplanned pregnant while reporting about afghanistan, couldnt get back to NZ because they dont even let their own citizens back in because of C19, eventually got sanctuary by the taliban (who were fully aware of her situation) ...
Or because of his ego and need for more money and fame.
I don't really know much about the Ukrainian president, other than his hard work at gathering support for Ukraine.
@deep saddle her: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/covid-19-omicron-charlotte-bellis-an-open-letter-on-miq/U4WQGYTJHUP36AGVOBN3F6PJSE/
Wow. What happened to them? They took over and caused people to flee. But now they're trying to be nice or something to women?
I meant I'm just not an Elon Musk fan. I would take anything he does with a grain of salt. He has a habit of throwing others under the bus in the name of self interest.
i am tied on elon. he is a wingnut for sure. but he also did advance at least two major areas of tech in 15 years in ways that completely lap anything else done in these areas in the last 50 years... which is kinda cool.
Yea. Like part of our studies before going to Morocco was on Elon and solar panels. Cuz part of our trip was focused on green energy.
He does the right thing often enough I suppose. Not always for the right reasons
Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while.
and sometimes for the right reason, but in a wrong way.
but that also vibes with my general "doing something that might be useful is better than doing nothing" approach.
You referring to Mariupol? I’m not sure of the situation there but I’ll check
Yea the only one I've heard news on so far.
i saw something scroll by about some city retaken, but i am unsure which it was.
From what I can read it’s been under heavy shelling most of the day but it doesn’t say it’s under full Russian control
It’s hard to find for sure if it has been taken or even taken back
Russia can't take a city. They can't even handle their own.
All they get done is bother people
Even if Russia were 100% successful, took out the existing leadership and tried to install a puppet state in Ukraine, it would just result in the weakening of the rest of the federation
It was a dumb quest
There is no winning scenario
Videos earlier of many heavy armoured vehicles crossing the border near Kharkiv wasn’t pretty to watch.
I also seriously hope they are not using the TOS-1 and it was just a scare tactic for the purposes of propaganda
The use of thermobaric missiles should be heavily condemned in this situation.
To be honest, shit like that shouldn’t really be necessary in any situation.
yeah, using the TOS-1 is like z0mgwtfbbq and if used on anything with a population wouldnt look good tiktok at all ...
They are fucking evil things. It was like the next step up from napalm when napalm was no longer “effective”.
yeah, but as a kaboom nerd i can appreciate thermobarics in general, and its one step short of using tactical nukes.
we are deeply in "KGB dude being punked by the comedian dude" land there. 😅
Well in terms of the physics behind it, I can’t deny it’s a clever device but I still cannot see the need for such things. Proof of concept is one thing but full blown and widespread usage in such situations is utterly barbaric
very much not a "surgical" tool. more a "i want everyone over there very, very dead". more so when used in the TOS-1 form factor.
Indeed
(i was surprised to see them at all. i had them filed as an historical artifact. like that ... oh god, whats the name ... vietnam era murican recoil-less rifle tank used for shredder-flechette ammo? ontos? yes, ontos. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M50_Ontos )
It’s 24 or 30 of them in quick succession isn’t it in the TOS-1?
They used the TOS-1 in both Afghanistan and Syria I believe
Going to try to get some sleep now, had difficulty sleeping last night imagining how it must be like in Kyiv right now.
I was the same. Woke up multiple times and get thinking about what’s going on
I understand. My first night with it I couldn't sleep. Good luck tonight
Sleep well, Tengu
(interestingly, the english WP article on the ontos doesnt mention the flechette ammo at all... its a thing though. M581 beehive...)
I see it’s looking like a special UN general assembly is on the cards. Vote for the procedure tomorrow and it needs 9 votes to pass with vetoes not being an option due the fact it’s a procedural vote and not a sanctioning vote. It will mean that the 193 assembly would gather to discuss the way forward
Will Russia be able to invade any other countries after it's sanctioned and cut out of swift?
If it has military then it can theoretically do what it wants in that regard, the question is if they wish to suffer the consequences of the action and that is dependant on who they invade
What happens if they invade my country?
I think it’s the same scenario as Ukraine right now but I cannot say for 100% certainty. It could be seen as an escalation as it’s attempted expansion into two sovereign states
general assembly doesnt have a veto mechanism to begin with. it also has "strongly worded letter" as it harshest measure though.
It may be viewed differently in light of on going situation close by
Yes sadly that’s true. It might start something though
Ukraine isn't just a fight for a country. It isn't just a fight for democracy in the eastern hemisphere. Ukraine is a testament to the human spirit. The idea that fuels a nation to break away from its oppressors for decades and spit in the face of adversity.
Russia was dumb in going into Ukraine. They will have pushed the plight and truth of a people they've been hiding behind propaganda into their own mainstream; that will infect the whole federation for decades to come and change their own nation against them.
For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.
I don't want go back to my mother in a coffin
Ukraine did not succeed because of Russia. It succeeds inspite of Russia
Joe, I know it’s hard to not be on edge right now but let’s see how things go man. Don’t worry too much. I know that’s not an easy thing and it’s definitely easier said than done. All I can say to you is that there is always hope. Eventually the good will prevail
Hopefully
Let’s all hope
Rest assured while not likely mentioned in the news, there is a good chance things are happening right now that no country is allowed to take credit for but serve the interests of the Ukrainian people.
Let’s hope indeed this is happening. More often than not it is
It was not an accident that Ukrainian military captured Russian spies and saboteurs yesterday
@FedorovMykhailo Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals en route.
Good man
Yes. Yes I am. Thank you.
Lol
God damn, Elon did a good
I wonder how long it will be before one of the satellites launched by china is revealed to be a weapon platform.
talked about some potential good. lets see if he delivers, and if it makes any difference.
Which country?
georgia
Yeah
I feel like Georgia is close enough of a partner with NATO that Russia wouldn't dare
i am less than 1k km from ukraine and they did it anyways.
NATO won't help us
Georgian forces help and train with NATO ones
And what he gets out of it in return.
Might buy him some future ear bending with Biden shrugs
We're alone like Ukraine in this conflict. Georgia only has 3.7mill population and 37000 troops we won't be able to put up a resistance
Where you located @sick sleet?
that may not even be an immediate consideration for a PR stunt. but currently the starlink setup is ... uh ... not what it was meant to be // could be either. it heavily relies on downlink stations in the area of service since they still dont have much any sat-to-sat element.
berlin. the one in germany.
Ahh we close then. I’m in Prague
Ah ok
⚡️ In #Russian Belgorod, 5,000 contract servicemen rioted and refused to go to fight #Ukraine, reports Obozrevatel
Let’s hope that’s true
We'll be utterly crushed , even tho I'm exempt from military service , I'll have to fight
I’ve seen several videos today of a guy stopping and asking forces where they are headed and they say they don’t know and he tells them Kyiv and they are like “fuck off no we aren’t” and they guy says “funny, the last lot didn’t realise either “
Notice how quiet china and india are being right now
Like they're waiting to see how things progress before getting involved
Yeah I saw this earlier. They have summoned the Russian consulate to meet with them
thats actualy something countries can/could do entirely without waiting for some larger org to be done discussing things.
"we do not appreciate it. now fuck off and tell your boss."
Interesting thing was two of the largest banks in China stopping issuing paperwork for Russian investments yesterday
Hiding their finances
I’d like to speak to the manager
otoh, RU<->CN banking would be one of the few cases NOT impacted by a SWIFT ban at all, because they have their own non-swift whatever.
It's only a matter of time before like a virus spreading the consequences of dealing with Russia financially, hit other nations supporting them
The Ukrainian northeastern city of Kharkiv remains under heavy fire today. The video shows the ongoing Russian shelling, published minutes ago.

Let me try to find the article
Russia would use China to get into US markets
Because of the interdependence of the US and China
Chinese State Banks Restrict Financing for Russian Commodities
Here you go, this was yesterday
I found it interesting to say the least
Thought you said they just stopped providing proof...
No no, stopped issuing the abilities to invest in Russia
Issuing paperwork to me read like "They aren't providing evidence of their finances"
I see.
international finance is weird
hmm...All I see here is "Industrial & Commercial Bank of China Ltd.’s offshore units stopped issuing U.S. dollar-denominated letters of credit for purchases of physical Russian commodities ready for export, two people familiar with the matter said."
They can hide it in any other currency
It’s all about who lends who what and where and why and risk and snooze and yawn
I think it’s deeper than that, I think they are not aligned with their state
Their state? They're state run banking institutions.
Would this be able to tour into a coup?
read a piece by a "compliance" person by a larger german bank today, and one part was "if we block them on SWIFT, they can still do transaction by fax, but that doesnt scale, so it would be limited to large transactions" ... and i was "wait, financial transactions by fax? how does that even work?"
Trust me...it works...and it's sloooow as fuck
It's not worth using
I used to do fax transactions and it took weeks to clear
Y'alls thoughts? If this is true
Reminds me of the old hand card transaction machines before EPOS system
and that's weeks to clear fax transactions with a bank I am with for decades in the country I was born in
@jagged birch it gave me flashbacks to the inter-bank settling-day thing from cryptonomicon
I think it would
and no
5000 troops saying no to going to kyiv won't result in a coup
Just 5000 disciplinary actions
@sleek river troops defecting? no. not on that scale. 5000 troops calling home and telling mom about it? more pressure at home. a lot more.
There would need to be tens of thousands of troops saying no before a coup was even on the table
🇺🇦Ukraine’s military: all attacks on Kharkiv have been repelled. Many buildings damaged. Shelling has stopped now.
2738

I mean they could tell their comrades and there could be more that refuse but I doubt a coup, as mumbles says it would be disciplinary. I think a coup is going to need to be done internally
yeah, i dont see a coup there, more a serious loss of push on the war itself.
I don't think the Russian military as "capable" as they are, have the numbers and training to brave a coup
Russia will pull out and separatists will dig their heels in for a few weeks and be pushed right back to the eastern border again
Could I send my family to America for refuge?
I mean I guess you can’t rule anything out totally as there might still be a chance but I think that would have to start higher up the ranking and be based back in Russia and not on the front line
I have little faith in russian military leadership to challenge the president on this - Especially given his former role as a KGB officer.
They'd lose face
Idk how it works honestly.
My close friend here in MA helped a refuge family settle in nearby. Wasn't Lebanon. I forget which middle eastern country. But they don't speak one of the common dialects.
sortof. i dont see a "coup" as such starting at home either. but enough moms going "you cant arrest us all" might have a similar effect.
The US typically has a four-ten year lineup for refugee status
I do know that the provincial government in Ontario is pushing for the feds in Canada to increase refugee allowance here
I think a lot of countries are still on crisis and Ukraine and Georgia unfortunately might be at the back end of the list to take in.
that whole thread ... https://twitter.com/Hogan698/status/1497291283106250761
@shaunwalker7 American tank mechanic here. Some advice.
Tanks are bad at urban combat. They need infantry support. Without boots on ground they're just big targets with poor visibility. Rifles should aim for the periscopes, but most importantly the sight unit on top of the turret.

Specifically in response to Ukraine. There's a huge Ukrainian village in Ontario
Yemen is a reguge crisis. Syria still is. And many others.
Well damn
Realistically there's no list. It's based on need...and the worse state a region is in, the higher up they go in line. It's a triage system
And Parisians are getting tired of the groups of Syrian refuges turning to gangs and robbery and such. And the amount of homeless in the subway. It's a tense situation in France.
That makes sense.
Yeah not impossible. Unless maybe a top adviser sees sense and offs him before he escalates this to full destruction of Russia
I've had Americans ask if they could get refugee status in Canada...I laughed. I'm like...No. You'd be laughed away at the border and told to move to another state if you don't like Florida.
Nope. Canada has an 8 year wait for citizenship I believe.
Probably easier to seek for refugee status in Western European countries
It is easier for a refugee from Syria to get into Canada right now as a refugee or immigrant than it is for an American.

Some is people leaving the country cuz of the orange man. Like one of my friends is happy in Italy now. But they moved for a job relocation really. And just stayed.
I can see Poland is going to get a lot of support to help with refugees from Ukraine.
Canada is sending tens of millions in support and aid
No. Let me rephrase
That's just Ontario
The rest of the country is sending more
Ontario is technically the richest province in the country, but it also has the largest ukrainian population
Wow
Bloor west in Toronto is called Little Ukraine.

Today is beautiful sunny day in Toronto and we decided to go for walk in one of the Toronto oldest areas - Bloor village, and take you with us. Since the mid-20th century, the area has been home to many Eastern Europeans. This is where Ukrainian Festival is taking ...
Yeah we have some arrive here also. Poland has the most currently I think though. I do actually also know of Ukrainians that have gone in the opposite direction from European countries to go and fight to protect their home
And the part of Ukraine that succeeded to Russia years ago
Crimea you mean?
Yea it was Crimea wasn't it? The mind is a sieve.
Yeah 2014/15 roughly
It’s still under Russian annexation. Earlier today the Russian forces destroyed a dam in Ukraine so the water from the canal flows back to crimea again.
So that keeps them loyal I'd assume.
What is Israel's comments on Putin claiming Nazi's in Ukraine?
I visited the Yad Vashem when I was in Israel. It was really intense. I can't imagine the country is taking a back seat right now with all this going on.
I've been watching a US Army UH-60M on flightradar24 for the past day or so.
Interesting flight-plans in SE Poland lately.
Fascinating that I can just watch that as well.
high rank FR account or just suffering through the wait lobby?
FR really drowned in a deluge of requests the last 72h, like 10-20x their normal hits. 😅
lol I bet
The US right now are going to make their presence known just enough to make Russia concerned

It doesn't matter if it's legit.

Why does this remind me, before I went to Israel I watched the official what to do when a siren goes off to signal rockets from Hamas. And no didin't bring a gas mask on the trip as instructed. I was on a concert tour with 150 men and had to bring my tuxedo.
it reminds me of ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_Resistance_(book) ... which i or a friend of a a friend may or may not have had copy-of-a-copy-of-a-copy version of at some point in the past.
I'm old enough to have bought a copy of the Anarchist's Cookbook at a local bookstore.
Not that I would do such a thing
(anarchists cookbook is like the grade-school version of total resistance. but yes. that foaf may have had a copy of that too. 😉 )
The mood in Ukraine….
Russia’s foreign minister Lavrov this week said negotiations can begin once Russia “restores democratic order” in Ukraine.
As Russian troops neared Kyiv, I asked MP @GoncharenkoUa to comment.
He had a pretty clear one word answer…

What is sad is all the people posting fake or old war videos just for likes and fans. And capilizing on this invasion. There's a lot of misinformation.
certainly, wouldnt file this particular one in the category though?
Hun?
if you had asked me a week ago about the president of UA, i might have vaguely remembered the "some comedian, political outsider, pretty much a protest vote thing" parts. he seems to deliver though.
because while stuff like this certainly has a currently not unreasonable PR angle, i doubt the "turned down CIA evac offer" part is a 7d-chess move ...
I wasn't talking about your posts. I was searching for updated info online and came across videos like soldier paratrooper from 2015 that people are hopping on for YouTube likes.
Zelensky isn't a draft doger. He seems genuinely passionate about his country and the people.
(ukrainian politics are a complete whack topic all on its own. like ukrainian parliament fist fights might be enough to have its own YT category...)
Yea. Honestly YouTube is always a mess anyways. The UN videos get trolled hard.
And their videos are about other parts of the world. Like building Bicycle paths in Brazil to reduce emissions. And they get dumped on for not condemning the US like Putin
Who gets dumped on for not condemning the US? Youtube isn't a person. It's a video host and streaming service owned by a corporation in the US.
Saying them implies that Youtube can and should be used as a political tool by those with the authority to do so. That would contradict the argument that it should remain open and give people a voice.
and if it's not open; if it's censored for political gain...condemning people on political grounds does nothing short of condemn the service as a whole as hypocritical
The people playing youtube likes games are like lobbyists. They're a bunch of cats playing the numbers game. Whatever influence likes have on a video is being played up for the purpose of manipulating analytics.
Playing into that game only legitimizes popular opinion as a political tool
I don't know about everyone else, but I'd rather an informed opinion be reinforced more than a popular one. The likes to dislikes ratio has been largely deplatformed as a means of controlling exposure on youtube for a reason
https://inews.co.uk/news/world/russia-ballistic-missiles-ukraine-from-belarus-putin-invasion-1481366
That's most likely fake
President Vladimir Putin has ordered Russian nuclear deterrent forces on alert amid tensions with the West over Ukraine
The problem with Russia using that system...It won't work in Ukraine. Even if they never fired a single shot, the locations of the platforms are being reported in the media, making them prime targets for a strategic counter response

The ukrainians are likely getting satellite intel informing them the location of every single one of these anti aircraft systems
It doesn't take an aircraft to destroy one. With them armed, a single artillery shell would blow the entire platform

Guaranteed russia is going to try and cut the supply line through crimea
That or they'll be taking soldiers to the western border from Belarus
That's a big risk. I wouldn't trust Putin. But if they're losing badly enough, his government might be more open to talks.
Let’s see what comes of it. The leaders themselves won’t meet from the sounds of this but a diplomatic delegation from each side.
Could mean things get a bit protracted
Yea that makes more sense right now.
I couldn't see Zelensky risking his neck literally to meet Putin
Do people actually want to meet Putin? As I get older, I am less and less impressed with celebrity. Least of all, the celebrity of power.
I only hope that the generations that have come after me are even less impressed by celebrity. Reality TV has kind of make celebrities disgusting even conceptually
"They're just like you, only you can't smell their shit yet...until you can, then they're kardashians"
I’ve met a number of celebrities in my life and I’ve never been starstruck. I just speak to them like any other normal person. I mean they are just doing their job after all.
I get more excited seeing wild animals that are rare to be honest
⚡️⚡️⚡️People's Deputy of the Servant of the People party Fyodor Venislavsky announces that negotiations between #Ukraine and the #Russian Federation have started!

I mean. I've met some celebrities over the years through connections but I'll pass on most politicians
I once met Shaun Majumder. He was the first celebrity I actually talked to and I was so young I didn't even know his name.
I was like..."You're that guy on TV" and he was like "Yeah! I am that guy on TV!"

I wanna call them idiots but I think this is/was mostly a way for them to surrender without surrendering.
that's a good point actually
i didn't think of that as a possibility i mean
but it would make the most sense
and if that's the case, what would it mean exactly? do they just not agree with the war?
"Apparently", a good amount of the Russian soldiers weren't aware they were heading to fight and assumed they was on a training exercise.
this was my first thought too
Russian Chief of General staff has been sacked apparently
its pretty evident most russians arent really savvy about shooting up the country where they possibly have relatives at
some of them DO have relatives
yeah, that'd make sense too. having relatives and loved ones so near
the only enthusiasm I'm hearing from are serbs (lol) and chechens (lmao)
just 2 that are swapping positions over the black sea. one day forte11 will be up and the next forte12 will replace it
i'm seriously still heartbroken about this. my heart sinks every time i read the news and discuss this war.
This is pretty important I guess , everything is crumbling around Putin
uhhhhh apparently putin just put his nuclear deterrent forces on high alert
well that seems very normal actually
That's old news , US said he was bluffing
how old? this video just came out today
Few hours
even then it seems like something you'd do just to go "hey everyone you better not try to gang up on me remember MAD?"
I really hope he was just bluffing.
I'm kinda scared if I have to admit.
If he's gonna try to do that he'll get a bullet in his head by his own people
he is already a lunatic but even he cant be a nuke throwing lunatic, if that happens then the whole damn continent will be wiped
I am too, but since seeing all the massive international support that Ukraine is getting and everyone uniting together and rooting for them, I feel hopeful.
Luckily it's not a straight forward case of "fire the nukes" and then someone firing the nukes.
that's also probably why all the warring right now is fringe attempts at key locations
if its a bluff then why are we at defcon 2?
and not a full on invasion tanks blazing
But is Putin even capable of seeing the consequences?
yes at least in that regard
thank you for saying that. i def need the hope. and Ukraine needs it most. i've mostly felt scared for them.
he cant be serious that no one will nuke him back
that's like the whole point of nukes
if he sends one he will get a dozen back
Sure, two that they aren't shy about turning transponders on lol, and the observation range of those things is absurd.
Point being we have lots of surveillance in the area.
Also been watching interesting flights near the border
no point of a soviet union with no people in it
Seriously, Ukrainians are kicking Putler's butt right now. He expected this to be over in a day or two, and his forces don't have the logistics to support a prolonged invasion.
Ukraine will win , Russia's economy will crash tomorrow
This is Winter War all over again
no it wont be over this easy
yeah they got SWIFTed but it wont be that quick to shut them down
his life is on the line lmao
thank you guys, for helping me feel more hopeful for Ukraine.
As I see it, the only way Russian oligarchs could potentially try to save themselves and try avoiding sanctions would be displacing Putler, swallow their pride by paying full repercussions for the war and blaming Putler for everything.
hence his life being on the line
The lowest level in use of force is "presence" and that's a reason why one might decide to announce your presence with your aircraft in the area, say by turning on the transponders for some of them.
if he doesnt win, this is the very likely scenario to happen
we already started to get unconfirmed reports of how the generals were "shocked" about the sudden invasion orders
He already fired his general chief of staff
confirmed?
Yup
holy shit
Just like one dictator in Germany started firing his generals at his last moments...
oh yeah, i've seen lots of stratotankers flying around for several days, what's up with that?
Refueling
but what are they refueling? haven't seen anything come near them on radar and they're just going around in loops
Covertly providing fuel for the Ukrainian air force possibly.
whose life btw? sorry i'm trying to get caught up
He's basically over
Putin's
And they are not refueling only that single f35 with it's transponder on lol
Putler
Putler's
because of this
if he loses the war this is very likely going to be the outcome
really???
since even he wont be able to fire everybody
wow
Honestly I was very afraid of Ukraine falling because next would be my country, but now I have hope
Think of it this way, there are often 3 tankers flying around the area at the same time lol.
That's not for refueling the 3-4 aircraft we see.
yeah it feels a bit relieving knowing they have been competently pushing them back
Not particularly fond being sent back in a coffin to be truthful

Protesters in Russia have already started fighting against the arrests - there was a video of the state police trying to carry a protestor to a police van, but other protestors swooped in and pushed the police back long enough for the one they were trying to capture to escape.
Georgia
that's really awful
wow that's amazing
oh dang, forte11 and 12 have disappeared from the map
I hope Putin keeps his mitts of your country 💖
I really fucking hope they didnt land because of tensions and not a pr stunt
could it have air dropped?
Yeah they do that periodically, same for Duke48.
They want you to see them, until they don't.
oh. and AN-225 might have been destroyed. 😦
Wouldn't that be wasteful?
It was
whats up with this cessna coming from moscow though? 30k people watching it
yep but they might have had their reasons for not landing even if its poland
Uh, people are forgetting about the Russian-Georgian War of 2008 (which had similar events happen to this war in Ukraine, and similar reasons too - namely NATO membership).
Dropping Putin
Yeah and we only have 37000 troops
If Finland and/or Sweden ends up joining NATO, the irony in Putler's face will be immeasurable.
Didn't he threaten with military action?
He did, but it is just a threat.
He already has his hands full with Ukraine, splitting his forces would be catastrophic for him.
And in case he tries to attack yet another country, I can't even imagine what the international response would be.
Aren't only 200k Russian soldiers in Ukraine?
The scariest part to me rn is how hard Putin has screwed this all up.
He's probably lost his mind and everything is collapsing around him
Yes, but there's no way he will leave all his flanks unguarded, especially the Chinese side.
Despite being a much smaller country with less population than Ukraine, most of the male population has been given military training due to the conscription system.
Ain't that good?
A cornered wolf is the most dangerous one.
He'll get shot probably
^
Potentially catastrophic.
Always give your enemy a way out.
He is mentally very unstable.
As I see it, a potential outcome of the peace talks would be Ukraine getting peace and keeping its right to join EU and NATO, but letting go of the separatist states - not sure what Ukrainians are ready to give up for peace, if anything.
Yes, and full of hubris.
And that mental state is likely deteriorating, quickly.
How can someone this insane ever become president?
I think it's worrysome
Russia isn't a democracy
That someone with such mental issues has so much power.
Look at how they are looking at Putin
I know
He can call himself the "president", but in reality he is a dictator
It's kind of a pre-requisite trait
Probably planning to take him out
That's why protesting there is tricky.
He's probably on stimulants and other drugs as well.
Here's the image - it shows how paranoid Putler really is
And if Putin gets, let's say, assassinated, what kind of maniac will replace him? He has probably already assigned a successor just in case.
And he fired one of them
That might be one of the more rational things he's done lately lmao
Probably someone chosen by oligarchs who has a a better image
This is also very worrisome
And probably someone with the same mindset as Putin.
If has the same mindset he's gonna make the same mistakes

They've been allowing that since the beginning
Belarus enters the conflict after crossing Ukraine’s northern border
Not long after dawn on February 24, tanks were recorded moving into Ukrainian territory from southwestern Belarus, crossing over at the Senkivka checkpoint. Tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and Russian heavy flamethrower systems can be identified in the videos. Videos showing missiles being launched from the Mogilev area towards Ukraine have also surfaced, yet have not been specifically geolocated as of now. CNN and Newsweek reported that Belarusian troops are also taking part in the attack against Ukraine, despite previous insistence from Belarusian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka that Belarus would not participate in any military action against the country.

Usually I can handle stuff in movies pretty well, but this shit is real...
did Putin say he's willing to use nuke?
Not likely
Yeah, I saw some as well, and the battered body of a civilian (a school was bombed)
Generally though hes not not willing.
He put his nuclear installations on sharp.
i just saw a bunch of news videos come up saying he's puttting his nuclear forces un high alert
Just not specifically mentioned that I saw
It's a nuclear deterent force, not nuclear force. It has nuclear capability but its been in operation since 2018
He has ordered the special force to responsible for the nuclear weapons on high alert, supposedly anyway. I’ve not seen anything that confirms there’s added mobilisation
But they already have them, as do other nations, on hand and not necessarily stockpiled
This is already WW3 - even though currently fighting is only going on in Ukraine, the international response with economic sanctions and support for Ukraine justifies calling it a world war in my mind - the whole world is in this now.
Hard to know if he would go that far, I think somewhere even he understands the adage of MAD
.nsfwtoggle
What
Hwat
I hope he is capable of realising this.
Nope, no go
I wouldn't be worried about nuclear weapons at the moment. I bet that Putler will try carpet bombing Kyiv before that or detonate a "warning shot" somewhere relatively safe first.

The intention of this thread was to discuss the Ukraine world event following existing NSFW server wide rules per our pinned rules. It was meant to be likely temporary.
Our moderation team under prior administration, archived our old Serious channel which was in fact configured as NSFW. We'd have to re-evaluate the need to bring back said channel with a new rule where political debate won't be allowed. But to bring that back, we'd have to further discuss it in our team.
For now, we'll continue with the current thread, under the current rules that are pinned.
Starting a new (potentially temporary) Serious thread for the discussion of more serious topics and world events like the war in Ukraine. Note that our #off-topic-bond-james-bond rules and #server-rules still apply. No political debates allowed. No prejudice towards any group of people. No uncivil or toxic commentary. No memes.
Ok there is is a war in Ukraine and Putin threatens with nuclear weapons and innocent people lose their homes and die and my parents worry about gas prices 🙄
Gas prices will never stop going up. It's a limited resource that is not going to become less limited over time.

the internet as a whole, very unlikely. local outages of various kinds already happened.
They should use Briar
Elon activated Starlink in the area
yeah, uh, whatever that may mean. 😉
Can someone give me a word that describes a bullet or other ordnance and rhymes with "bolt"?
(the critical question for starlink in ukraine is: what ground stations are they using?)
Purposely ambiguous lol
Huh?
Largest possible bombs before they are categorised as a nuke.
@sleek river some tracking/reporting of interwebs outages in UA ... https://netblocks.org/reports/internet-disruptions-registered-as-russia-moves-in-on-ukraine-W80p4k8K
Nuke != size
Yes I am aware.
Where did you read that?
Then your statement is confusing, they aren't nukes, and size (or power) isn't what determines that
We're in a Discord for a game, this isn't a military Discord.
For that sake of keeping it simple, I wrote that statement.
How can you know what type of bomb it is from the explosion?
It wasn't even a mushroom cloud
Adding "nukes" to the description doesn't simplify it, it clouds it
That's a fair statement.
Conventional weapons often result in mushroom clouds
Notice how quickly the fireball expands. It's hungry for oxygen
Less cloud, more fire
Thermo explosion is exactly what I said. Tried to explain in the most simple terms but it backfired.
My apologies.
Thermobaric weapons are made more clear by one of the other names imo; air/fuel weapons.
I dunno wtf I mean anymore tbh. 😛
Lmao
so, yeah, thermobaric/fae ... https://twitter.com/IFENewsAgency/status/1498038782851182592
HOLY FFF***🚨 As we reported here is some videos from #Ukraine Media reports a powerful explosion in #Cherkasy. Looks like Vaccum Bomb been used. By whom or on Whome is yet to be seen. https://t.co/YKb1D50ltp
So it basically uses air as "fuel" for the fire to spread?
It relies on the oxygen in the air for the effect.
The bomb or missile then only has to carry the fuel.
Jeezus
It spreads a fine propellant as a first stage after detonation and then a second detonation ignites that fuel that sucks the oxygen out the air effectively
Hence the rapid expansion/explosion. Just sucking that air up.
Much like in a car engine, the air/fuel mixture is critical in creating an explosion
its not so much about "spreading fire". not the "baric" part of the name. a classic american variant are "fuel air explosives". you have a big tank of something that can burn (like fuel), and a small explosive charge in the middle that just throws the fuel around, then ignites it when well mixed with air. very big kaboom.
@jovial hemlock it also either evaporates you or bursts your internal organs
😳
So the fuel is aerosolized and ignited
My God
If you're hit by a blast wave from an explosion of any force, your organs can be destroyed.
Well...not ANY force
This is how flour bombs and grain silo explosions work as well
any conventional weapon
Is it possible that explosion is from something else perhaps, maybe a laden antiaircraft vehicle being taken out…?
Some high fuel source maybe
yeah could be any number of things
The footage I've seen from those tanks is more like carpet bombing
Let’s hope it’s not the start of the thermobaric usage that seemed to be on the cards when the TOS-1 was seen on the back of a flatbed
I doubt it's a ground based explosion. It's very concentrated.
Like something highly reactive dropped in place
I hope it’s an isolated thing
That's the thing, the large thermobaric weapons aren't meant to be concentrated
I imagine they would've heard it if it were a large thermobaric weapon.
Is it a new type of weapon?
I'm no expert though. So...
lol...new weapon....russia lol
Russia adjourned the UN meeting and just headed out.
emphasis on multiple
Can someone give me a word that describes a bullet or other ordnance and rhymes with "bolt"?
I am trying to rewrite the Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum song into a more fitting song for the situation
Why?
Yes, that's the whole point of those things
Thermobaric weapons are not new as such. They were first used back in Vietnam I think
See the second line.
But it is not funny
Odds are it wasn't "those things" that fired that target strike, then'
Exactly my point
I’m more inclined, maybe more hopeful, to believe that was maybe something like a petrol reserve being taken out
Yeah same
You could use something to mean electrical / electrifying like volt or maybe even a sudden shock like jolt but in terms of a bullet or projectile that may rhyme I cannot think of something immediately
Could have been Ukrainians busting a missile launcher, too
Aside from scare targets, that's the kind of thing they'll want to blow up anyhow
Possible also
Jolt will probably do.
Yeah or blowing up fuel trucks en route etc
they also have even smaller thermobarics than the tos-1 rockets: https://twitter.com/CalibreObscura/status/1488787369792884739
#Idlib: Really interesting & uncommon hardware for sale recently; a few thermobaric TBG-7V projectiles. (Motor unscrewed)
As you can see, the one clearly seen has a manufacturing year of 1999. These are not used often, although HTS fighters (Malhama Tactical) have operated them. https://t.co/d5gD7EYmyR
I hate when military operations decide to test new equipment in the field
As an American "Colt" is the first thing that came to mind but figured it wouldn't fit lol
Is the explosion a FOAB?
How the heck did war get to a stage where a container the size of a drinks flask can hold enough material to cause significant damage?
I hate this.
Right, but those won't cause a giant explosion which was the context
?
Drink flask? That bottle is like 2 liters
How much do you drink?
Not 2L that's for sure.
No way lol
Is it too small?
War is scary. People always find disgustingly creative ways to kill one another
Even so, 2L is a "standard" bottle of fizzy drink here. I can't imagine dropping that and taking out a building or 2.
Wild to me, really is.
I only hope this does not lead to chemical or biological weapons
Modern nuclear weapons have only about 5kg of plutonium in them iirc
Semtex / C4 / plastic explosives probably, maybe even before then
I would not put biological or chemical weapons beyond the scope of russian operations
wtf I hate this.
No, there’s a proven track record of it in fact
They striked another convoy with a drone
Maybe it was a part of the convoy we saw go pop.
Putin was already threatening with the use of weapons "never seen". I hope he is just buffing. What if they have been developing bioweapons?
GUYS
Yes, much
We'd all know if they dropped one of those
the explosion was a ammonium fertilizer plant
Ah there you go. That'll do it.
That can be used for IEDs, so a strategic target
Yeah that fits I reckon
What I read earlier was “consequences never seen” so I suspected he meant all out war with everything. Not sure about non-field tested munitions. But it’s hard to know. Sadly war is often the first place things like that are done and discoveries happen. Without war we would not have advanced in space as quickly as we did. I wish it didn’t need to have been war that caused such an advancement if I’m honest.
I hate that fact.
Me too
We can use our tech for such beautiful things but instead we kill people with it 😔
because u know anything that doesnt have a mushroom cloud isnt an explosion
I wasn't saying that. Don't be rude.
could be a balistic misile
This is highly speculative, but the video of the explosion in #Cherkasy lines very well up with the landscape south of the Azot Chemical Plant https://t.co/O5GuYttCoa
damn
isnt that
radioactive?
No
Isn't what radioactive?
A lot of things we know come from abhorrent sources.
Eg the Nazis were very good record keepers with regards to the minimum amount of food required to keep people alive.
Oh yes I know
I’ve stood in Auschwitz and found it difficult to hold back tears seeing some of the things there
oh wow. there was an anti-war protest in berlin today. they had optimistically estimated 20k people might show up. the reports guess 350k-500k actualy did.
I’m thankful that part of history is over I must say
Looking at the region bombed....Looks like fuel silos
I saw the footage
for comparison, our but-mah-freedums protests are like low three digits.
We had a slightly smaller one in Prague with about 80k
Yeah I went there too.
Intense.
My grandfather helped smuggle refugees during WWII.
Sad how some things don't seem to change
Yeah man
This was Berlin today, @sick sleet
a part of it, anyways.
lol beat me to it
Lol sorry man. My thumbs are doing overtime today on the keypad
Russia's President Putin has been suspended from his post as honorary president and ambassador of the International Judo Federation over the "ongoing war conflict in Ukraine," the organization said in a statement.
Putin, a Judo black belt, has been honorary president since 2008. https://t.co/ZAC2Sf97H6

FIFA trying to get the football team to make a stand should they desire to play
I was discussing with my wife earlier on this and she remarked that he would probably be more pissed off at this than the sanctions
Well at least we know what it takes for the IJF to take a stand on things.
Considering Putin cultivates an image of the super macho
Definitely
I find a there's an (off color) parallel between the IJF and Kremlin tbh
😁
Not being a follower of judo I have no comment on this lol
also from the "how to seriously piss off machos" ... someone made a decent portrait of putin ... mosaiced out of a lot of dickpics ...
Bunch of old, out of touch fogies, wishing things were like the "good old days" to the detriment of everyone around them, themselves included.
😁
Ok yeah I can see that parallel
Not too dissimilar to a lot of political regimes; there’s at least one in every nation mind you
I was just going to say, I shouldn't be throwing stones
Thankfully in some places they only have about 100 supporters, in others they have a touch more
I've certainly become more aware of various colors of idiocy and and malice over the past two years.
And to think people have called me cynical before lol
Call me crazy but I feel it’s good to be a little bit cynical… but maybe that’s because I’ve been rather cynical since being too young to be so lol
It at least keeps you raising questions and challenging things
I'm honestly impressed by both the tenacity of Ukranians to defend their country to the death and the ineptness of the Russian army to make them surrender
I grew up on George Carlin, so at least I drink my cynicism with a smile
Like bro is their only real defence now just the nukes?
Totally agree. I’ve said it to the wife lately, last two mornings I find myself saying “the Ukrainians are not to be fucked with”
I remember watching Putin playing hockey. he sucked at it, but the team were too pathetic, so they all but gave him goals
I sure would lol
Until recently I didn't know much about Ukranians except some meme where they're portrayed as pigs
Because of where I am I’ve met many Ukrainians and generally I find them really nice people. Odd one or two aren’t so nice but that’s like everywhere.
But generally I get on well with them I have to say
If I was Ukrainian, I'd be worried about breaking my neck, since my head would be so large rn
Of course it would match my balls so...
Breaking your balls
If you fell over you’d look like a dumbbell then
"then" lol
got it covered
Damn it's noon already lol
All this internettin' makes one hungry
It’s 5 to 11 at night here
Looking at some of the businesses in the area that was hit by that thermo....
Ostchem
Looks like a holding company for a pretty big group
Doesn’t have to be to be inspiring though
It would be more inspiring if it were in russia
900 people so far arrested for protesting in russia
I have the numbers at over 3000 arrested. 1500 of them today alone but now supposedly they have been fighting back against the police
A protest unresolved will turn to a riot over time.
Esp under the threat of force from police
Yeah I've heard figures in the thousands too, for arrests
In this instance I would condone such a riot
I would only wish safety for those rioting on the side of righteousness
Yes, demonstration carries risk
interesting detail there: RU seems to have shipped a LOT of their riot police to UA. and, uh, a decent chunk wont be coming back.
The whole thing appears to be coming apart at the seams
For a country that supposedly has a large military they cannot have exhausted the personnel from that perspective already so as to warrant sending in the riot police as a second front surely
#BREAKING Meanwhile fighting in most major cities right now, a tractor driver steals Russian military equipment in Ukraine. Things are so unorganized on the Russian side. #Ukraine #UkraineWar #UkraineInvasion #UkraineUnderAttack https://t.co/wLYlrrHVuV

I mean either then they are lying about the night and size of their battalions or they have them deployed else where
They also have a lot of area to cover
Is that the soldier running after him? 🤣
I’m actually in tears laughing at the dude pegging it after the tank like “shit, shit, shiiiiiit”
There is that, but still something is amiss
I have to believe even the soldier must see the comedy of that situation
Lol probably not
From a philosophical standpoint, according to Sun Tzu Putin is doing everything wrong.
CNN just said almost 6000 protestors arrested in Russia.
Yeah there wouldn’t appear to be much going right, at least not from the outside looking in
That's a lot
Yea
I can believe that based on figures I mentioned. They are from around 14:00 (2pm for those not familiar) this afternoon
The multiple fronts, long distances, supply lines, strong willed locals, and apparently poorly trained/green forces they are sending out all spells failure...
If you've never read the book it's pretty interesting.
He goes into great lengths trying to convince the reader never to go to war.
There's a section where he outlines the costs and manpower to move an army, all the way down to the road builders and how much rice etc they will need per distance traveled.
The takeaway is obviously,
"Ok since you didn't listen earlier, let me spell out why this is such a bad idea..."
Hopefully. But he must of known this approach was madness. It would make me sad to think he wasted lives for sending a message or whatever even if it's a failure.
Human lives are not valuable to all of us unfortunately
Who is y'all talking about ? Sun Tzu?
Yeah, there's a wide misconception that Art of War all about winning, when it's mostly trying to convince you to never go to war lol
If he's mad enough to just do this to cause chaos and death and destruction for no purpose other than to say democracy is wrong for Ukraine? I worry what else he is capable of.
Protesters in Minsk have encircled the building of the General Staff of the Defence Ministry of Belarus and are chanting "Glory to Ukraine!" https://t.co/caj03prp7N

Sorry was ordering some new VELUX blinds, Rock and roll, I know! I’ve never read the Art of War but I will take a look actually. It’s been on the list for some time
So Belarus joined the Russians? I just checked this channel and saw y'all posted a bajillion messages so I'm trying to catch up 😆
Well yes and no. ,I guess
They haven't used their military forces, they are just hosting Russian ones
If Russia did take Ukraine they would have a larger iron wall including Belarus l
And yes there have been sanctions against Belarus also
Pretty much as we expected the vote would go for this
Well the security council went the same way
Not as strongly as against Russia at this point. In fact, in comparison I would say quite mild. But I would anticipate those would swiftly step up
True
Seems you just skimmed the article earlier
CNN and Newsweek reported that Belarusian troops are also taking part in the attack against Ukraine, despite previous insistence from Belarusian leader Alyaksandr Lukashenka that Belarus would not participate in any military action against the country.
But then Lukashenko isn’t exactly known for doing what he says outwardly
I heard they were sending troops but since the Ukrainian delegation went there I thought they would stop
So Putin won't just ride across the border of Ukraine shirtless horseback flying solo in all his manliness?
Would of been simpler.
This is not good

Doesn't appear to be the case, and the rest of the world is beginning to react accordingly
I Odessa has like thousands of Molotov bottles
They'll burn em to crisp
That's a lot of soldiers and death
Ship invasions never go well 💀
Wouldn't a few tanks on the dock be enough to stop that kind of thing?
Also, doesn't Odessa have a bunch of tunnels near it? The Odessa Catacombs or whatever. Fuck trying to invade any place with miles of tunnels for resistance people to hide in
That what thermobaric weapons are for, unfortunately
I wonder if the UN is sharing satellite data with Ukraine and showing em where all the big Russian targets are
Cuz the trucks carrying thermobaric missiles are a phat target
I'm seeing a private jet escaping from Switzerland to Russia

So it seems people on YouTube are getting a video about how to survive the first hour of a nuke getting recommended to a ton of people and freaking out right now
Flying over Ukraine right now
Full of cash lol?
Think so lol
I mean they need gas from what I gather
I don't think it actually means anything like some people think it does
It rose up from Geneva
This was a funny one here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2018_Hawaii_false_missile_alert
My sister in law panicked so hard lol
So many people just took the warning at face value.
On the morning of Saturday, January 13, 2018, a ballistic missile alert was accidentally issued via the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alert System over television, radio, and cellphones in the U.S. state of Hawaii. The alert stated that there was an incoming ballistic missile threat to Hawaii, advised residents to seek shelter, a...
Oh I remember that, didn't hear about it until like a year later though
Also NK launched a reconnaissance satellite
Ain't that just a normal NK thing to do)
I knew people who worked at Pearl Harbor who were panicking and I said,
"Don't you think you'd get a more official warning, you know, considering where you work?"
Funny stuff.
I mean I don't think anyone panicking is funny
Well they generally launch ICBMs
I do on occasion when it's not based in anything real, anxiety and similar stuff aside naturally.
But when simple common sense should prevail it's pretty funny imo.
Ie the Navy is who would be letting people know about these missiles, not hearing about them from a cell phone alert
We even get that crazy X band radar globe in town on occasion
What the orb doin'
Floating
How enormous? Like owl rig big or like yacht big?
The radar dome is > 30m dia
Vessel length: 389 feet (119 m) [1]
Vessel beam: 238 feet (73 m)
Vessel height: 85 meters (279 ft) from keel to top of radome
It's bizarre watching the fighting in Kharkiv, everything just looks so normal around them. I've grown up with the only war on the news being in the middle east, I'm not used to seeing fighting happen in average looking areas
It’s definitely an off shaped vessel. Is it a catamaran?
It was quite a sight when I saw it on the horizon for the first time lol
That pic gives pretty good scale lol
It's part of the missile defense system
JESUS
It’s some very impressive engineering
Yeah I don't think I was exaggerating
😁
Absolutely
Im sure it's packed to the gills with some crazy tech
Just perching it on that ship seems like a ridiculous project lol
the ship ... dives ... moves under the load, then resurfaces.
