Abandoned Mode
Abandoned game mode is the same as Normal, with a few differences described below.
-#
This information is updated post the release of Relics (Update 5.6 on <t:1743011520:d>) and subject to change as the community learns more.
- All Space Stations are abandoned. When you land, the left side balcony has the Base Teleporter, and the right side balcony has the Galactic Terminal. Both rooms have Remembrance chambers that require Atlas Pass v3.
- Analysis visor is preinstalled and fixed, same with terrain manipulator and mining beam.
- Multi-Tools found in abandoned mode are now always free, but start with damaged slots.
- There's no initial, scripted storm.
- Once you warp, the Space Anomaly is unlocked.
- In space anomaly the Construction, Synthesis, and the Exosuit inventory unlock terminal are available.
- In the Space Anomaly, the terminals for Expedition, Nexus and Quicksilver are available.
- Abandoned space stations now have access to Exosuit, starship, and Multi-Tool upgrade stations.
- Additional salvage boxes have been added around abandoned space stations containing valuable upgrades and inventory expansion modules.
- The Base Computer, Personal Refiner, and Construction Research Terminal are all available to build from the get go.
- Once a base is claimed, all Research Terminals are available to construct. That includes Exocraft, Exosuit, etc.
- Settlement-related missions will no longer start in abandoned mode, and most quest-lines are unavailable.
- Purple systems are now unlocked automatically in abandoned mode.
- In abandoned mode, crashed freighter containers and other buried caches can now contain additional valuable upgrades.
@cobalt sundial here's the abandoned mode thread.
Ty
Id have to assume that quest progression doesnt matter, and it just counts as having fully completed the main one from the get go
Not sure how a freighter attack could happen considering the lack of all lifeforms
Do pirates still exist?
in non-abandoned, rescue battle events can be force triggered on any inhabited system, and that even includes abandoned systems
which, in abandoned mode, all gek/korvax/vykeen systems are ofc
and thus, it should be possible, in principle, to meet the requirements to trigger a rescue battle
Thats just like what 3 or 4 warps right
or at least, i'd expect that those reqs have been lowered
well, would probably be 3h of gameplay time, and 5 ship warps i'd reckon
same as non-abandoned i'd say, don't think they'd go to those lengths to lower it
Hmm, ill give it a try tommorow lol
Now im curious whether or not the constructs still exist lol
*autophages
hmm probably not i'd think
Have 17 hours on my save.. no freighter rescue so far .. but was there not :
Prerequisites
Progression past 'Ghosts in the Machine' storyline mission.
?
Which canΒ΄t be done in Abondoned Mode
Hello !
I have some Abandoned Universe mode question...
I'm currently attempting the Permadeath + Abandoned Universe mode - reach galaxy centre.
With that in mind I have a few question:
- What's the best way to get nanites in abandoned mode (I've tried scanning, but every single planet I always end up 1 or 2 flora or minerals short of scanning everything, it drives me nuts )
- Is there any way to reach blackholes, other than accidentally stumbling upon one (there is no Polo in the Anomaly in the Abandoned Universe mode, to get the Black Hole quest line)
- If I upgrade my Warp Drive to red, blue, green , will that potentially shorten my way to the centre (will the path lead through these star systems )
- will it extend my jump range a bit ?
!faq-nanites
-#
to view info below, enable embeds
Check out the refining methods @tawny pumice
ohh I forgot that.... was it the Running Mould that refined to nanites ?
thanks - that is a great suggestion - I totally forgot about refining
What about black holes - been playing for a bit now, so far didn't find one yet. I have been told that they do shorten the way to the centre... so I'm really desperate to find one π
- Any valid system glypg address with SSI 079 will contain a black hole. This means, any valid system glyph address with 2nd to 4th glyphs should be 079 (
)
Find a portal, put in the address, go there.
Yes
Thanks for that !
3, 4.
Yes, upgrading to colored hyperdrive will unlock those stars. Yes all of them will add some jump range. The path may, or may not be shorter depending on the star positions but itβs a good idea to upgrade to the highest possible hyperdrive engine.
I must say that the Abandoned Universe is quite unique, making certain things a bit more challanging, because I used to take them for granted - like Polo being there haha.
Yeah, thankfully we had encountered similar mode and functionalities in Omega and Adrift expeditions, our experiences werenβt as challenging as it is for new players, or those who couldnβt play those expeditions.
right - I need to find out the nanite costs now - I guess I can find that in the wiki somewhere. so I can make a list of goals for me (aka farming a certain amount of nanites first etc... ). So far I made my life easier by getting the Atlas staff and the Starborn Runner ship - which makes it a bit easier already.
Yup
as long as you donΒ΄t find an unknown grave in Abandoned Mode you will never get a Glyph.. or was this for the Permadeath mode ?
Thankfully I had some nanites left after claiming Starborn, so I got a fishing rig installed, and have taken a detour from my goal, and created a tiny research hub (a smal base, with a bunch of research terminals and a teleporter) at a planet with plenty of water. I can now farm nanites they way I like the most:
- fishing and releasing the fish π
I wonder if fishing actuallyworks in Abandoned mode.... Technically it shouldn't as all the planets I visited had fauna displaced haha
I will test my theory tonight after work.
fishing works independently of fauna species; see e.g. gas giants, abandoned systems
that said, abandoned mode planets have/can have fauna afaik
oh really ? so far I haven't found any π
yep, definitely will find planets with fauna
Can you check back and see if that planet still has fauna within 30-60 minutes of first seeing it? I've found fauna seem to disappear fairly quickly whenever you find it (with the discovery log saying there never was any- that they evacuated or something)
Also, has anyone been able to gain a companion? Or even get the recipe feeding pellets?
As for freighters, even if you find one, it doesn't look like you can claim one. If you join a friend that's in permadeath mode, but not abandoned mode, and they're in a system with an available freighter- when you go in it's completely empty with no captain or something to interact with to purchase/claim the freighter. But perhaps that's a weird multiplayer bug.
Have a planet with 7 creatures .. all in my discoverie list
There seems to be no way to get the blueprint for pellets...
I donΒ΄t think that you will ever get a freighter...
Permadeath should unlock glyphs after completing the Artemis path, iirc.
yes .. I got confused with <<<I'm currently attempting the Permadeath + Abandoned Universe mode - reach galaxy centre.>>>
that's coo π
what is the space anomaly music when in abandoned mode called?
from the sounds of it, it may be derelict freighter music?
i think maybe TemporalDissent?
btw - I tried the fishing approach for getting nanites - that worked absolutely flawlessly, I had plenty of ninites in no time !
Turns out that I only had to spend 1 nanite to get the fishing rig BP π
From there on it was smooth sailing - well standing on a wooden fishing pier that I have built.
And now I have all the engines except the atlantidum one - on my TODO list. π
Thanks for all the help - I'm now happily on the way towards the centre of the galaxy.
One last question:
- will the dot / position marked in the galaxy view (top right corner of the screen in galaxy view), move toward the centre, when you make progress in that voyage ? (was wondering if it can be used as a visual progress metric ;> )
When I open the galaxy view, there is a little dot on the galaxy, like this (don't have the ability to take a screenshot atm - I'm at work, so you have to excuse my crude rendition):
(the dot in question is encircled in yellow usually)
regarding the mode - I'mplaing it BOTH: Permadeath + Abandoned Mode enabled at the same time π
Below of that spiral it shows the distance to the core.. not sure if that spot is your current location
Ahh ok Next time I play, I will look for the actual distance value. Thanks!
Checked my distance yesterday... 712k light years, oh boy, that's gonna take a while lol.
I think I need to make a spreadsheet to calculate how much matts I need for the fuel π
Is it possible in Abandoned mode to get further warp drive upgrades? Other than the colour ones?
Ps Verified my theory - as soon as I got the, emeril, cadmium and indium drives, the path to the centre started routing through the relevant stars. So it definitely makes sense to get them.
Next on todo: find a black hole and more drive upgrades.
Looks like this is going to be a marathon π
As there are no NPC you can not buy upgrades..You may get a better MT in Anomaly...Damaged Machinery, Operations Centres, Crashed Ships, and so on may give you upgrades, too
But you will never get an Atlantid Drive ..and you won't be able to visit a purple system...
In the past, I've done a permadeath challenge with the the goal to leave the Galaxy.. but with the following restrictions:
Tutorial OFF
Not allowed to repair or use your Starter Ship or any other ship... looting crashed ships is allowed ...
To leave the galaxy I needed to find an unknown grave.. to have at least on Glyphe.. and finally find a portal to use this Glyph ..
So.. you may walk a lot on foot to find an unknow grave to get one Glyphe .. finding a Portal would be easy than π
how do you find an unknown grave in abandoned / permadeath (I think I might have found one early on, but I can't remember, is there somewhere in the catalogue menu, where I could see if I did find it ? )
wow - not allowing to repair starter ship - that's harsh
how does the whole portal work when you only have one glyph... ?
I've never tried it like that before
you need to find :
Need to use your visor frequently to find one ..means beeing a lot on foot .. stop and search .. best to find in the dark
If you just repeat one Glyph you get a destination clost to the center
oooo - the glyph thing I had no idea about.. I am so totally going to walk around to find a grave now.... Just need to find a planet that isn't a toxic / radioactive dump, that will drain my life support and shields in 5 minutes π
Survival level hazards are pretty harsh hahahaha
when I started the first time - I died within 15 minutes, before even taking off the starting planet. Had to start a new save of course. But once I did it - I planed my every step....
To avoid the - let's start from scratch facepalm again
under Atlas you see your Glyphes
sweet ! Will check that later in the lunch break (pros of working from home - you can play your console/PC in your break π )
<<<Just need to find a planet that isn't a toxic / radioactive dump, that will drain my life support and shields in 5 minutes >> Why dont you use a roamer ?
and did you do this
Gives you a lot upgrades.. exo.. Mt and ship upgrades for free
I was too lazy so far - and haven't unlocked the walker or the roamer vehicle bays yet π
I need to farm more salvaged data, to unlock the BPs (it's on my TODO list π ).
Sometimes Nexus Missions have Salvaged Data as a reward
oh yeah - will check that too, although the few missions I did earlier in this save, proved to be quite challanging, as every time they were on nasty planets with nasty storms π
Will use that as last resort option haha.
I got too far in this save to die in a stupid way now.
hehe yeah
Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it. When I started playing this difficulty, I quickly realised that many things I took for granted, turned out to suddenly become quite a challange, and I really like it.
Thanks to whomever it was who posted their achievement for reaching centre of galaxy in perma death.
That motivated me to try it.
You will get at the same time the Survival achievment
Thats may protection .. got it all for free
I need to spend some more time to get more tech slots π
Roamer will find drop pods easy
and then get the upgrades asap as well yeah
yeah - think I'm gonna combine searching for grave with searching for pods π
I think it might be worth unlocking the atlas pass, at least the v.1
good idea ππΌ
In my speciell permadeath I didnΒ΄t have an exocraft .. did it all on foot π
π sure it is .. did make a full story about .. have it somewhere on steam
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3009714403
In case you want something to read during coffe break π
I did a little math...
If I assume an average jump length at around 300 LY (usually it's anything bwteen 200 - 340 atm for me), I will need a total of 2374 fuel cells to complete all the jumps (if I ignore black holes and the portal method).
That means mining the following amounts:
- Chromatic Metal: 59,350 units
- Condensed Carbon: 47,480 units
- Oxygen: 71,220 units
- Ferrite Dust: 118,700 units
I guess I might need a tiny bit more space in my ship inventory hahaha ;>
I will definitelly use the glyph method π
One question about using the portal method :
- how do you find a portal in abandoned mode ? (there is no map vendor)
- if I was to use a portal again, using different glyph, would that get me closer to the centre again ?
Getting all that stuff keeps you busy a while π
You can not get more ship inventory.. because all SpaseStation are abonden
For Portal either find one by yourself.. or use the scanner from the roamer... scan for Monolith
And no.. using a portal again with the same glyphs will not change the distance
found this today :
https://prnt.sc/1iSeyMC82OKi
Did not test it
Thx! I forgot it's impossible to upgrade ships thanks to abandoned stations π
BTw. I've read your post from Steam - Really cool write up !
ooo thanks for that - that is a MASSIVE shortcut from 712000 LY to 5000 LY ! LOL
I'm so totally going to get the roamer and find the grave haha.
that's on average only 17 jumps... Easy enough to pull off I think I even have enough of most of the matts. might need to get a bit more Ferrite Dust on the way π
I checked if I had the glyph - looks like it was in the first save (the one where I died like a noob within first 15 - 20 minutes haha).
I have the roamer now - just want to install the better versions of the radar thing first. And then I can start farming the pods and looking for the grave
Right.
Got my roamer and its radar sorted (upgraded the radar to max as well). Got space (tech slots) and found a glyph (from the grave).
Now I'm stuck at finding the portal.
I was using Roamer and scanning for alien structures, but constantly been finding Alien Monoliths which give you some words etc... so far haven't found a portal.
Am I using the right method? (Roamer scan)?
You want monoliths. Answer correctly and then interact again to locate a portal.
Alright.
Can I reload save in case I mess up an answer? To try again?
Yes
Awesome. Thanks. Seems like I have a plan:)
Thanks for all the help and patience in answering my questions.
I got there - aka close enough. Only 5500 Ly to go π
Now it's going to be easy!
All the fuel is ready, just do the jumps.
make sure that you are prepared for the new galaxy !!
Read this before do the last jump !
https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Galaxy_Centre
Will do! Thank you very much for supporting me all the way!
Does the travel through the centre to the next galaxy cause any ship damage?
It will damage every bit of tech installed in your active ship, multitool and your suit as well. Pack things up before the jump or use junkers with no tech.
Hmm in that case I might switch to starter ship before the final jump lol
And I also have a spare crappy multi tool I will switch to before the final jump hahaha.
LOL I got to about 2900LY away from the centre, and I cannot continue, as my next stop on the route requires the new Atlantideum drive, which isn't available (so I was told) in the Abandoned Universe mode π¦
This sucks
warp around the core, 1000LY each time, a bit aways from it, not trying to stick to it
there are non-purple gateway systems still
That worked! Thank you so much.... It was a bit of a shock when I got to that point in my journey:)
All that I have left to do now is the final jump. I'm leaving that for tomorrow.
Thanks a lot for all the help I got from you guys here! Best online community ever!
have fun π₯³
@little dove abandoned mode thread under #nms-questions
Thank you
Has anyone had the "a planet in distress" mission start in abandoned mode? Mine started in galaxy 19. When I went back to Euclid it has been taking me back and forth between my main base and another system close by and I still haven't seen a marker.
I'm thinking it's a bug. I want to make sure.
Its a kind of bug ... thats an event which should not be triggered,,,just ignore it .. because how can there be a settlement in abonded mode if there are no NPC ...
I'm not sure....I did have two missions start when I was on my way to the centre of galaxy:
- the mission for the settlement (can't remember the exact title), or at least I thought that it was that mission
- and something with the "Deep..." in the title (I will check later tonight).
What happens if you follow it. Does the mission actually work and lets you build a settlement? That would be so weird
no .. you will never find that settlement.. as Arthur Dent already wrote..
I thought it was a but, I was also checking to see if it would send me to an abandoned settlement. Seems like the actual settlement could still be there.
I dont think so ... At least I never could find one
I've went to multiple locations in multiple galaxies and still haven't found a marker for the settlement.
Just ignore that event
I'm used to ignoring things like that on saves I don't want to do the quest lines.
Again,, that event should not pop up in Abandoned Mode ...
If you have some time .. report it , too

I did it!
congrats!
Thanks! You guys helped me a lot. I really appreciate it.
Now I need to do what next to do in this save - I started liking the level of the challenge in these settings.
I think that I might turn this particular save into a main save. Maybe I will focus now to find a paradise planet in the Abandoned mode and build a proper base there.
Quick question about a story line I got after jumping to the next galaxy "Dreems of the Deep" is this mission possible to complete in Abandoned ?
iirc, dreams of the deep only interacts with buildings/POI, so it should be possible to do
cool - I should try that too. I guess - my Permadeath+AbandonedUniverse save is going to become my main save
but than you will never see purple systems
Hmm true... Maybe I will just make it main for a while... until the novelty of the difficulty wears off π
I've got a survival abandoned save. I got the settlement quest notification. I haven't seen the dreams of the deep yet
Dreams of the Deep triggers on your 1st warp after starting The Purge or your 40th warp overall
With the abandoned option enabled? I just hit the 30th warp.
I've been warping to dissonant systems and looking for a pirate system. I've heard they can still be found by finding the pirate symbol on the system in the galactic map
did complete Dreams of the Deep in Abandoned Mode
Looks like I've got a few more warps to start mine. Have you looked for pirate systems?
no .. did just warp arround
Is it possible to obtain Aqua Jets in the Abandoned Mode?
only if you do expedition 17 with this save
sorry ..I guess IΒ΄m wrong ... give me a minute to double check it
@vivid lily no, you're not wrong musashi
you are correct, aqua jets isn't there, or wasn't there at least when we started abandoned mode
it should be though imo, so i consider that to be a bug
thats why I did expedition17 to get the blueprint π
@tawny pumice ... answer is no .. run exp17 with that save to get the blueprint
wait, the blueprint? not the stored tech?
sorry you are right π .. the stored tech
Do you mean - completing the expedition 17, and then uninstalling that tech and transfering it through the expedition terminal in the anomaly ?
If that's the case I might skip that then - as the last time I did the Exp 17 on my other save, I literally died within first 5 minutes, while doing the tornado milestone lol.
does not matter as long you could get your grave ... π
oh really - I was worried that since I'm on perm death, it would destroy the save ?
no .. if you play expeditons your are always in normal... after you did finish it , it wil be converted to your pd save
Ohhhh
Guess I'm going to play the expedition (again) π
Thanks !! I was unaware of this - that's actually really great
its worth .. at least for the Aqua Launcher
This expedition was super easy, so I can knock it out in a dya or two
yeah
out of curiosity - how many days/weeks are there left for exp 17 ?

SWEET - I have plenty of time then
Thanks a lot.
I was asking abot the aqua jets, because the mission "Dreams of the Deep" happens to point for me to a water world type planet, without any dry land to land on π
Lol guess who died in tornado like noob .... Again LOL
Quick question will it be possible to uninstall the Atlantid drive and transfer it as well after finishing the exp?
sorry for the late reply. yep, it is possible, but this wont give us the ability to warp to purple stars, as they're not revealed yet (requires quest, which we cant do in abandoned)
(even near the galactic core regions, there will be visible purple star systems, but still wont register atlantid drive capability -- that comes from a different character progression stat)
I was afraid that you will say that π
I finsihed the expedition last night, today I'm gonna transfer some of the upgrades that I farmed, including the Aqua Jets. Thank you so much for giving me that hint !
Now I need to find something else to do.
Just out of curiosity - is there anything like a storyline to the abandoned universe mode? Some sort of puzzle to figure out why the universe is abandoned?
And - you were absolutely correct, when you said that:
- atlantideum drive will be useless in Abandoned mode π
- I was able to transfer that from the expedition (when I finished it)
- I installed it in my Starborn Runner
- Of course I can't go to Purple stars, because they haven't been revealed to me π
- I haven't tested the case of the galaxy core gateway systems with the purple stars - but I have a suspicion, that you were right there too π
hopefully devs can cook something up
I wish they added some storyline to be discovered, that would lead to finding the reason for the universe being abandoned
Unless there's one, and I'm a noob that hasn't found it lol (very possible)
Hello - I have another question for abandoned mode. This one might be pretty stupid though...
Am I correct to assume that it is impossible to obtain a Freighter in Abandoned Universe mode ?
yes
shame
I was hoping to get the upgrade egg called "saline carapace" for my living ship (The Wraith - the ship from the latest expedition) π Guess I will stick to the Starborn Runner, and use the Wraith when jumping to next galaxy. As I understad that living ships do not get damaged when jumping through the galaxy centre ?
No idea on that one, first I've heard it
false; living ships take core warp damage just like any other ship (for a very short window of time after their release, there was a bug that made them immune to core warp damage, but was shortly patched out as it was never intended; that wasn't fast enough to prevent some people from assuming it was intended and started spreading that info around)
Oh no... Well I'm glad yhat I kept the piece of junk starter ship then π
And thanks for clarifying that - so I won't ruin my Wraith haha
What's the best strategy for finding further portal glyphs in the abandoned mode ?
(I have the first glyph I found by driving around in the Roamer and finding the unknown grave).
imo, it will be using the eliminate hazardous flora nexus mission
!faq-portalglyphs
-#
to view info below, enable embeds
Glyphs are always unlocked in the same order. Completing the main storyline is the easiest and most hassle-free way to do so, but the player may also obtain glyphs from Traveler graves.
A) Through the main storyline mission named The Purge: perform 16 warps in any direction, to any system (despite what the quest objective says). Wait for the game to register the last warp, then warp out again. Type !faq-artemispath in #bot-spam for a list of missions.
B) Find Travelers in inhabited star systems, and for 100 nanites, ask them where they came from.
This will add a HUD marker to a grave location on one of the planets in the system: follow it and interact with the grave to obtain the next glyph. Please note that if multiple travelers are found in the same location/system, it won't be possible to get markers for all their graves in one go, you need to get one grave at a time.
C) Through the Eliminate Hazardous Flora Nexus mission. It is strongly recommended to do this with multiplayer disabled. As part of the mission, the player is led to a grave. Once located, do not interact with it but instead build and claim a base computer near by, then return to the Space Anomaly by reloading restore point or using on-foot quick menu shortcut (if available). Nexus missions refresh every 10 minutes, so if the mission is still available (or another of the same type has been added with the last refresh), the process can be repeated again. Once done with finding graves, they can easily be reached through any teleporter.

Run !Faq-Portal and !Faq-PortalUse in #bot-spam to learn more about portals and using them.
method C
Oh I see - and once you have all 16 graves with bases on it , then you can teleport and interact ?
thatis clever - I would never figure this out.... haha
Thank you !
This is great. I have 8/16 bases/graves set. All on the same planet. The planet right outside my anomaly hahaha
glad to see it's working out well
Yeah it took about an hour to get all the remaining 15 glyphs lol. All on the same planet, right outside the anomaly;)
I need to ask one more thing regarding Abandoned mode.
Is it possible to upgrade / expand ship storage in Abandoned mode? (Since we cannot modify ships in stations)?
And the same goes for multitool. Is it possible to find a multitool terminal (the one that allows you to use the special slot upgrade items... I have one of these items and was wondering if I will be able to ever use it )
not atm, since all stations are abandoned π«
that's what Iw as afraid of. Guess I will be using my Colossus and Rpoamer as mobile item storage haha
Y'all seem to know what you're doing so how do y'all upgrade multitool and ship class (and slots) without the space stations?
Or can we just not do that?
oh nevermind
welp that stinks :(
Unrelated problem
Is anyone else unable to summon exocraft via suit?
It doesn't seem to understand that the ground exists
that should have been fixed already; make sure you're on latest build; if still happening, save, close game completely, relaunch and try again
Been working fine for me. I was able to summon both Roamer and Colossus just fine
Btw I made it to galaxy 10.
Hunt for a paradise planet to build a base upon can start now π
Then it's going to be a bit of farming to get all the stuff needed, to get to galaxy #255
As far as I understand:
- you cannot upgrade ships or scrap them. So you eirher claim an uber-ship like Starborn Runner or Iron Vulture through Expedition vendor in the anomaly (the vendor person isn't there but the menu works!) or farm for a good ship like an interceptor one
- with multitool, it's a matter of:
- claiming a good multitool from anomaly (example: atlas staff)
- trying to find a good quality multi tool in the abandoned buildinds etc.
I don't think you will find a multitool terminal to upgrade an existing multitool
I'm curious. Was Base Computer Archives changed specifically for this game mode, or was it changed prior?
nah, it was changed before
So gone are the days of waiting 24 hours for the next update, man I've been playing this game for a long time
I am soo annoyed ..... Laast night wanted to jump from Eissentam (galaxy 10) to next galaxy... Found a systemnear centre,.... 40 warp cells later, every single gateway star system I found, turned out to be purple.... I was fuming lol
Purple systems on abandoned? I wonder how that is achievable
Oh, nvm
that's the problem you cannot access purple systems in abandoned
Thats a known issue ... you need to warp about 1000 ly away to find a gate where you dont need that Atlantid drive
I know - it's just absolutely infuriating, when you do that several times, and each time you find another purple gateway. That's what happened to me yesterday π
Yeah, there really isn't much to it. Definitely brings us down to earth.
I finally got back to it yesterday. I guess getting farms is a must for some major resources, so I'll start on those asap and probably colonize my area.
- Multi-Tools found in abandoned mode are now always free, but start with damaged slots.
- Settlement-related missions will no longer start in abandoned mode.
- Abandoned space stations now have access to Exosuit, starship, and Multi-Tool upgrade stations.
- Additional salvage boxes have been added around abandoned space stations containing valuable upgrades and inventory expansion modules.
- Purple systems are now unlocked automatically in abandoned mode.
- In abandoned mode, crashed freighter containers and other buried caches can now contain additional valuable upgrades.
Well we won quite big with Relics
Today I am very happy to announce this has changed
The gunter tooltip will need updating for these changes. This is fantastic stuff.
This should probably be pinned (for now) π
glad I have atlas v3 pass, might actually explore the abandoned stations a bit more, see what I can find π
I'm curious how the abandoned stations actually look now
Because they're using the station designs not seen since like NEXT i think?
yeah - I can't wait to finish work to download the update on my ps5
I'll go load my abandoned save rn and take a screenshot for you
Wish I waited till today's update - would have saved 40 warp cells, thank goodness I have an antinatter reactor in one of my bases haha. A reactor I almost died for.... I had to gather some storm crystals. Let's just say it was a brutal experience, resulting in my almost dying. I managed to jump in my ship, the very last moment (when hazard protection was off already (and I ran out of sodium and batteries) and I was on my last health ;> (my hands were shaking a bit after that (playing on Permadeath+Survival)).
Nevermind its not that different appearance wise
They added the ship terminal thing on the bottom level where you land and the side rooms contain the exosuit upgrade module thing and a MT upgrade thing
Also holy hell my ship would cost over 91 million to buy one slot upgrade cause of the costs stuff I have settings wise.
LOL - I expected this to be expensive. I will probably not upgrade my ship storage. But I do have the multitool slot upgrade token/thingy, I couldn't use, so I'm gonna take it to the station and use it.
I only have 20ish million units on this save, so will pass on the ship storage upgrade.
Will focus on building out my farm. And then continue on my journey to the 255th galaxy π
Well I have my settings on scarce resources and extremely expensive buying costs
A wiring loom costs upwards of 220k and that's a lot of money early on
I think I have it similar, as last time I bought a bunch of wireling looms, I paid upwards of 2.5M units ;>
I "cheated" a bit, and at the end of the last expedition, I have transfered the multitool scanner upgrades, so I made a fair amount of money by just scanning things. Getting anywhere from 30k to 500k units for each thing I scan is nice.
Oh I fully use the missions in the anomaly
The anomaly is really sad in abandoned, poor nada (i think its nada)? is just standing there dejected and all alone.
The music in there is absolutely great.
Haha yeah - that's how I got my portal glyphs, spammed the mission about hazardous flora, until I had 15 graves (I already had one glyph). And then claimed the contents (outside of mission). π
I tested the galaxy centre stuff after the update. There are several improvements:
- if you remove / uninstall the atlantid drive, the game will not plot the path/route to the centre through purple systems (I tested it last night, I was in a purple gateway system, ready to jump to next galaxy. When I uninstalled the atlantid drive, and entered the galaxy menu, it wasn't showing me the path to centre, asking for the drive, instead , it started showing a path to next non-purple gateway ! That is a massive win for me)
- Of course I jumped through the purple system gateway, and as soon as I did it, it also triggered that animation of purple stars appearing in the galaxy menu, that you normally get when you finish the quest line in normal mode
- Once in the new galaxy there was a surprise waiting for me:
- Once everything initialised, I immediately summoned my main ship , the Starborn Runner, and jumped into it, and flew off to the anomaly.
- Onboard the anomaly, I tried to summon my broken "jumper ship", and I couldn't - it kept giving me an error that the ship is critically damaged and cannot be summoned (this was working before the update btw)
- I want back to the planet from which I launched, and decided to find my broken ship. Couldn't find it, so I tried to summon it - and Lo and Behold - I was able to summon it (before the patch it would not allow you to summon it on the planet surface, you would have to go to the anomaly)
- last bit - it's not worth jumping through purple gateways, especially with resources set to Scarce, Repeairing the Atlantid drive is a bitch.... It takes:
Indium: 150
Atlantideum: 100
Living Glass: 1 (!!!)
- Glass: 5
- Lubricant: 1
- Faecium: 50
- Gamma Root: 400
Gathering the mats for Lubricant - specifically the gamma root is a pain in the side π
Didn't have the chance to jump to the updated stations, that's on my list, as soon as I fix the atlantid drive .
That's incredibly expensive F
scarce with expensive purchases is legit a really fun way to play
I found a reddit post about it
Wait I've just realised
Them making multitools free is a REALLY good idea
It makes repairing em earned and helps with another way to make money
I tested the new station terminals the multitool and ship upgrades. the ship upgrades are super expensive. Multitool was priced at 20M for 1 slot, without the upgrade token thingy. Thankfully I had one token, so I used that.
also - loogin the small boxes in one of the rooms, gave me 2 C-class upgrades for the ship , so who knows, maybe if I visit enough stations, I might get something useful from those boxes some time
The yellow salvage boxes are incredible.
I lucked out on damaged machinery on a planet with extreme heat and got an S class heat protection module also.
Salvage boxes can give MT expansion slots and whatnot afaict.
If I'm understanding this right also, multitools being free to acquire means you can sell them and consistently make money
I acquired the basilisk crown from the expedition in my abandoned save, so nice getting 35k+ a scan
It doesn't make credits too easy to get either since stuff is overall very expensive.
I transfered the scan upgrades from previous expedition, and my Atlas Staff is now scanning things at anything between 35k to 500k π (I scanned some animal yesterday and got almost 600k )
Is the new expedition already active ?
guess I know what I will be doing when I get back from holiday in 2 weeks time.
You can go higher btw
Not sure how difficult it would be in abandoned mode but there's a certain food that gives insane amounts of multipliers to scanning
I've seen upwards of like, 35 mill I think per scan?
oh nice - guess I will be transferring more scanner upgrades lol
Expedition is active yes
The hardest part is catching the fish and the longest is collecting 80 ancient bones.
tthat's fine - will probably do it the same way as always - knock out most of the milestones on the first planet haha.
I'm pretty happy also they didn't just straight up make purple systems free to access
But instead I have to work up resource wise for the atlantid drive
So far the only expedition that was hard for me was the time-loop one.
Fast nanites is a problem for me but idm too much
I never did that one and I regret it
I for a long time did not do expeditions and the only three I've now done are aquarius titan and relics
I was farming nanites using fishing in Abandoned mode, that worked the best for me
I've built a little base, with a building over water, and fished inside, safe from the external weather π
I think aquarius is the best of the 3 cause it really exemplfies the true spirit of it being about the journey and not the destination.
you catch fish, you release them, you get nanites. Zero exposure to outside, zero stress.
I found a cold planet named Birciana, so my base Birciana-One is there near some water.
I wish releasing was something you could do from the quick menu tbh
oh yeah it is a bit awkward true
especially that after each release it closes the menu
but I can live with such a small inconvenience hahaha

3 s-class scanner+ingestor buff for fauna analysis ^
ohh that;s something I need to build the ingestor
Yeah those are the ones
Cooking FINALLY being worth it is good
quite OP imo
NMS aint about balance
we're talking millions on a scan, worth more than a single stasis device
Last time they tried balancing stuff it lead to community outcry and supercharged slots
We don't have many massive credit sinks and I hope that changes.
do note, not asking for rebalances
I just wish learning recipes was a thing you could do without brute force
I think Cronus should be further updated to offer recipes in exchange for currency from him.
just stating that if it wasn't that high, but still a decently sized buff, most people who actually catalog would appreciate it - we did last time when they buffed zoology
Tbf if they wanted to nerf it they'd cap it at a certain % or make it have diminishing returns
not a bad idea π
Could even offer him a thing for a 50/50 chance of nanites or a random recipe since they added that barter thing
I fully expect this year to delve into that feature
I should be able to push him over if he insults my bones he ate whole after I found them in the ground
Hey y'all I was told about being able to access purple systems in abandoned mode
How do I do that?
They aren't showing up on the galaxy map
(Yes I have the atlantid drive installed)
Y'all please I don't wanna make a new save I like this one
They may be hard to see. For Purple systems, their first letter of the spectral class is X or Y, so maybe you try looking out for those letters...?
Doing some testing
From the looks of it I don't have the atlantid drive unlocked in terms of craftability
The one I have came from the titan expedition, I brought it back with my ship
i can't unlock atlantid drive to begin with, i don't see purple star systems in the galaxy map cc @proven copper
Welp
It looks like not all of the update applied to everyone then
THEY UNLOCKED ON THE STAR MAP RIGHT ON CUE AFTER I SAID THAT
It's like it heard me why
oh wait
The rubber duck strikes again
yeah, i've got no unlock source atm - i wonder if it needs a minimum nr of warps?
ok, i can see purple stars after 2 warps, but still no atlantid drive bp cc @proven copper
Go to anomaly or make a ship terminal in a base.
They are there for me.. in experimental version
From the relict note : and purple systems are automatically visible on the Galaxy map.
which is true... but can not be visited π
nope.. you can not get the bp ...in abandoned mode
You can though
It's in my base terminals
lemme go double check this
Looks like you were right nvm, I wonder if its something you unlock through manufacturing facilities or something
Or if you have to unlock all previous drives first
yeah, those were the first two things i tried
warp 2 times seems to be the requirement, and you should see the restored systems animation in the gmap
i'm assuming atlantid drive is going to come from either distress beacons or buried caches
or from an expedition π
yeah; sorry, i was thinking about the blueprint itself π
I know .. I got the bp during my expedition with that save
so you're able to craft/install atlantid drive on any ship in abandoned mode?
i'm not referring to packaged copies
so you're not able to craft/install it then, i take it
it's okay, no worries, message got mixed up
at least i'm assuming it has to drop somewhere, if it's not automatically learned
i've been getting loads of upgrade modules from buried caches
but for some reason i don't really see them dropping blueprints, i'm leaning more towards crashed ship sites and their distress beacon
i'd probably suggest having all other research done though, before actually trying to go for distress beacons
having them pre unlocked, e.g. eco scanner, will prevent them from being unlocked by distress beacon we interact with next, which means that we'd be reducing the drop table
The yellow salvage boxes in the stations are very good also
I got two exosuit upgrade modules from em once
oh yeah, that too, i got like 4 exosuit exp units and 1 mt expansion slot from caches
Tysm for helping troubleshoot this issue btw, Bkay!
So maybe we should include this in this thread's pin, re: purple systems? i.e, "Purple systems, which you unlock automatically after a second warp" type dealio?
Cc @eternal token @nocturne fjord
The stars do unlock like that but there's no current way to acquire the drive to my knowledge unless you have another ship with it on
looks good to me yeah
I'm surprised they didn't account for it tbh.
i want to test distress beacons research pool
i'm... betting that they added it there
You'd be searching a long time
not really - if i unlock everything from the starship research station first
I think it should just allow you to get it after you research every single hyperdrive variant
Or add the construct into the anomaly
I guess they just forgot to add the bp .. until they add that bp I use
Wait, but is the BP even required? I thought Bkay said all that's needed was do 2 warps...?
than you only see the purple systems .. but you can not warp without the atlantid drive
Omg fr? So @bronze dragon is unable to fly to them? Whaaaa? Are we suuure HG just completely forgot about the BP and there's no way to acquire it
i'm not sure of that yet
up to now .. yes ... did search the full day for boxes which may give the bp,,, and I guess @bronze dragon , too .. without success
I bet they simple forgot it to add

There isn't a way to acquire it afaik
What a weird oversight
You only get it with the mission in the non abandoned mode tbf so I wonder if they'd have to consider running a hidden mission to unlock it
I have all the non atlantid drives now at least
Plus I use the basilisk crown thing for big scan stuff, not that 6 mill lasts long on expensive purchase cost settings w/ scarce resources
latest steam experimental:
Fixed an issue in Abandoned Mode that prevented some products and technologies, including the Atlantid Drive, from appearing in the constructable Research Stations.
About time.
How much to craft it
didn't double check, but should be the same reqs
@eternal token @tawny pumice
Base game requires Quartzite though no?
no; atlantideum, indium, and living glass
ftr, resonance matrix:
"Nothing on this planet has 4 legs!"
Use your EYES MAN
THIS IS THE SECOND THING I'VE FOUND WITH FOUR LEGS
Not as far as I know
Unless the craft recipe in abandoned is different
No idea
Or the miraheze wiki is actively spreading misinformation
No I used the miraheze wiki and it straight up lied to me
I love being lied to its my favourite pastime
That's the unfortunate thing with wikis unfortunately. Anyone can change it at anytime and completely misguide people.
The Fandom version is more reliable; however, the problem with that is there are some pages missing. They still don't have a page for Gas Giants and Waterworlds and WPII has been out for two months already.
use antifandom to avoid ads
Someone in this channel told me it could be 'found' in abandoned mode - I've not seen it yet, have 40 hours in, too
yeah, no reason to anymore anyway
i could never find it either
devs probably just meant that we could get like upgrade modules from caches or something
I ended up switching the restriction setting off -- that did the job, until the drive is actually craftable
The 'base computer archives' mission may have been altered also, it's given me 4 under water breathing modules - all the same class
I have that BP in my list .. IΒ΄m in experimental mode
It can't be, not sure who said that.
He said it would be in one of the stations, or crashed freighter's cargo pods
As soon as experimental goes public .. you get the BP
Cool.
Update should be out today yall for the abandoned mode purple systems stuff
I hope the aquatic lander is included also
It is
Nanites cost: 600 for aquajets 500 atlantid drive [1100 total]
Living Glass bp: 625 Acid: 625 Glass: 625 Lubricant 625 (iirc) [2500 total]
Or get living glass from a Nexus mission
iirc at least unless I misremembered
Many thanks for the extra info, but I'm still being forced to wait a bit longer, as I own the Switch edition
Advice for getting Faecium since no animals are in Abandoned mode:
*Sometimes it can be found in resource deposits on marsh planets.
Faecium can be refined using a Refiner with the following ingredients:
Mordite x3 β Faecium x1 ("Assisted Decomposition", 0.24 sec./unit output)
Di-hydrogen x1, Carbon x1 β Faecium x1 ("Assisted Decomposition", 0.08 sec./unit output)
Faecium x1, Oxygen x1 β Faecium x3 ("Oxygenate Microbes", 0.36 sec./unit output)
Nitrogen x1, Sulphurine x1 β Faecium x1 ("Encourage Growth", 0.24 sec./unit output)
Mordite x1, Carbon x2 β Faecium x3 ("Runaway Decomposition", 0.36 sec./unit output)
Mordite x1, Condensed Carbon x1 β Faecium x4 ("Runaway Decomposition", 0.36 sec./unit output)*
Dihydrogen Carbon route might be the best one or marsh planets
Nvm animals are
Still, looking for a marsh planet with it on would be the fastest route since its needed for Lubricant which is a requirement of Living Glass, a further requirement of the Atlantid Drive.
Dear lord nanites are slow to get in this mode.
Best I've found is radiant shards.
Only criticism I have of abandoned mode now is the fact that you cannot get creature pellets.
My way of farming nanites for my upgrades, was essentially - the chillout method:
- built a base on a shore, on a planetw th water
- built a building over water, with a hole in the middle of its floor
- fished inside the building, releasing the fish for nanites
This way I was able to get all the nanites I needed, without any risk whatsoever (I'm playing in a Permadeath+Survival , so fishing outside drains the life support relentlessly haha)
There are.. found a planet with 7 animals
There are nvm I just got unlucky.
Its in my starter system .. where I did build my first base with all the equipment
Even my Gamma root planet has 7 animals ...
hmm hmm i'll check again then! thanks!
So after killing all this poor animals my Atlandid drive is ready ... same for Aqua jets... now I can go for my Exocraft Summon unit
Have you tried putting carbon in a nutrient processor?
It works more efficiently than crafting, at a 1:1 ratio
Nice job !
Exo summoning thingy (the big one that you can deploy and then pick it up after summining an exocraft) was pretty much the first thing I've built in Abandoned mode, after getting my first exocraft (Roamer)
No.. the one you can add into your exosuit
ooooo I completely missed that
I need to get that
So that thing allows you to summon your EXO without deploying anything ?
that's so neat
would free up one inventory slot haha π
where do you get the BP for it ? research terminals ?
Guess I will need to teleport back to galaxy #2 to my research base haha (once I'm done with the Relic expedition - already done with like 50% of it (watched a video on how to do it in 3 hours, so I'm making decent progress there)).
Btw. Now that I have a bit of a farm going:
- anti-matter reactor
- gas mining (oxygen)
- mineral mining rig (copper)
Are there any other minerals that I should target specifically for mining, in order to fulfill my plan of getting to the galaxy 255 ? (the last one you can reach in abandoned mode) ?
Not sure what you all need ... at least a lot warp cells .. and max Hyperdrive range... that will be a long .. long .. trip π
In one of my other saves I have a base comp there ... someone in MP invited me to visit him there
Omg I had a close one last night hahaha.
I finished the expedition and switched back to playing my Abandoned+ Survival+ Permadeath mode...
Started working on that exosuit upgrade for exocraft summoning module. Went to a gas giant to get some crystallised helium.... Found a nice flat-,ish are, with some deposits, that looked safe-ish (as safe as it can get on a gas giant). Landed, jumped out of the ship, started scanning through the visor to locate nearest crystallised helium deposit only to notice that a tornado just appeared right on top if me..... Luckily managed to jump back into the ship and wait it out. (For the perspective, as why this was scary to me: In the previous expedition I got killed by the tornado several times lol. So having this potentially happening to me in Permadeath was not something I wanted to explore )
Long story short: I have the module working, and I'm safe. Can go back to exploring galaxies π
question - what content is locked for abandoned mode? except quests
like, cosmetics, base parts, etc?
Nothing
so everythin is just there
can u join other players with your abandoned save?
like with permadeath, can u only join abandoned mode players or everyone
Haven't tested, I presume just abandoned mode
last question, if i gonna build a base in the abandoned mode, and publish it, can normal mode players visit it?
i mean like, visit while im offline
like how switch players can publish the base and other platforms can check it out
My guess is that abandoned only sees and plays with abandoned mode players
I don't think you see them independently either
You would need to group to see an actual player
ye, like join via menu, not nexus
also can u do nexus missions?
Yeah
Yep
QS bot isn't there, but there is an interaction there
So all the store is present
so u can still buy stuff with QS?
Yep
I'll be so glad when the Switch version is caught up, I really want the aquatic landing thingy
@fiery cargo can u own a freighter in the abandoned?

Are there sentinel ships?
Like can u get interceptora?
Interceptors*
And are they the same design for every mode
I'm really not sure about that one, they should be there as you don't need any quest
If they are, they will be the same yes
Abandoned mode does indeed have interceptors, and I've also encountered some not-yet-assembled Autophage on planet surfaces
Artemis path
Atlas path
The autophage
Freighters
The station rework of orbital, the pirate stations of outlaws, settlements
You can't see them on the anomaly unless you press your scanner button
and then they'll disappear over time
@fiery cargo do u know how to unlock the anomaly in abandoned?
oh wait it just spawned
sorry for ping
how im supposed to get upgrades for ships and stuff
You need to follow the tutorial and build all needed terminals in your base
oh u get these terminals from utopia?
expedition
also... which tutorial?
You build a terminal for everything which you would normally find in the anomaly
Build a base
thats great
alr
thanks π
Yw
it is a different game π
us there a ship fabricator in abandoned mode?
i found a player with a custom ship
its in every SpaceStation
abandoned?
yes
since one of the updates
wait i gonna test it out! thanks
wait where is it?
same area where your ship does park .. left corner
thats the station to get scrap and stuff
i meant a fabricator where u build your own ships
@vivid lily
Choose 3
i cant atm but what will happen when i gonna get a ship part
will the fabricator unlock?
(i only own the radiant pillar atm)
You just need more ships .. to get all the different modules to build a new ship
alr tysm for help π
I've heard the utopia one allegedly exists but I never did that expedition so
Oh btw
Yellow boxes in stations (the tiny ones) are salvage boxes
They're incredible for getting new stuff, so every time you jump into a new system, head to the station and open them all.
ye i know, these give slots (at least for me)
I've gotten exosuit expansion slots and whatnot
same, for multitools and for exosuit
I don't think you can make your own in this mode.
I got an s class module from damaged machinery once.
Utopia used terminals in place of the anomaly terminals and NPCs for upgrades - the same ones used for abandoned mode
Also make sure you're using your wonders setting and bookmarking planets for certain resources.
I though utopia terminals were just one thing though.
It can be found in the Build Menu under Tech/Portable. Once deployed, it provides access to the following construction research trees (there are 4 types of station):
If you want more of a challenge, set your purchase costs to expensive and your resource availability to scarce.
4 types
But is the utopia one not several menus rather than seperate stations?
i dont want a super hard experience, just something refreshing, abandoned mode is perfect for that
Nope, separate stations
Man I wish older expeditions could be played again
I'm annoyed at myself for not playing utopia, i woulda probably loved it.
it annoyed the hell out of me
Only played aquarius onwards and the game is convinced I played pioneers but I didn't except iirc launching it once.
Utopia and the permadeath ones sounded interesting
From the Utopia expedition, on the right you can see the same sort of terminals abandoned uses now
Still praying Omega was the first step to making expeditions playable
Even if its just grinding say, 5000 qs to buy an "access key" to let you use the expedition terminal and play a redux version or something
i want an expedition rework, first rename em to tales, the QS guy can now sell story books that will unlock a certain tale, each book would cost 5k quicksilver.
I'd not change their name but I think having QS as option could be nice.
I hope this year focuses on more stability related stuff though, the game needs it.
Worlds pt2 was a good first step.
we are getting a little bit off topic there ngl
we REALLY need a MP update
I've said that for a very long time. I just don't expect it to happen.
Back to abandoned
I've been wrong before but its not been a focus since Beyond and that was YEARS ago.
I could have done without the 'kill yourself in a volcano' stage
How do u get atlantid drive
also is every system abandoned or can i find a unhabited one
The atlantid drive should be findable in the starship tech dispenser - unless you have the Switch version, which is behind in updates
I've only found abandoned systems so far
All systems are abandoned
I got attacked by a pirate once but this is because I did a nexus mission tbf
So it was in whatever galaxy was used
But atlantid drive requires crafting all the other drives, and requires living glass which requires acid and glass to be researched first
My tip for building bases @coral fern is to build one near water because fishing is quite a solid nanites source
Dissonant planets are the best however because of radiant shards.
It's like 50 a shard iirc?
Maybe 100
oh yeah... my first base is on a planet without any water : P
next base maybe
My home system is abandoned is kind of absurd
I have like, every planet type in terms of resources minus dissonant
In terms of plants at least
Gamma root etc etc
For now in just building a base to have the terminals, once i will get a sentinel interceptor i will explore and find a good planet with water
I'd just build a base near water honestly, saves the trouble.
Man they need base repackaging at some point.
Huzzah! Switch version has caught up - now time to start enjoying the aquatic parking and explore some new depths
π
Quick question - is there a webpage somewhere, that could have a list of all of the galaxies? I just want the number - name, sort of list, so I could keep track of my travel towards the 255 π
here, have this image
Do you have a link to an actual text / spreadsheet version?
Would love to condense it and print it π
Either way the image you posted helps too. Thank you!
IDK why players want to head to the 'last' galaxy, we're not even done mapping the first one, lol
True - fir me reaching the galaxy 255 (as you cannot reach 256 on Abandoned) is just a personal challenge (mostly logistical and survival as I combined Abandoned with Survival+Permadeath, but also psychological - get there and not get bored by it, half way through).
I will probably get back to galaxy 1 (Euclid) once I get to 255, and start exploring Euclid more
Euclid still has plenty to see, at least for me - I plan to stick around for quite a while
BTW I have now converted that image to a spreadsheet π If anyone ever wants it, I'm happy to share it (as a Read Only - so that you can copy it for yourself).
here is the link to the spredsheet. It's entirely based on the image shared by bk201:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1B2zjfRQsC62BztwKUXLQfbJStKUWHAmugZeEER7Esdw/edit?usp=sharing
I use it to track my progress on the way to galaxy 255. DISCLAIMER: Keep in mind - you won't be able to reach 256 in Abandoned mode (unless that changed recently, and I'm not aware of such change ;>).
I also found and tested an universal portal address, that ALWAYS drops you off 1 jump from a gateway system π (I added it to that document). I tested it 5 times (in 5 different galaxies) and it worked 100% each time.
btw. is there a limit on how many bases can you build (like how many base computers you can put up). I've been doing this thing - setting up "bookmarks" every few galaxies, by just claiming a base, so in case I had to go back to one of my farms, I could just teleport there (different galaxy), and then go back to the last galaxy I was in, to to continue my journey, by teleporting to the "bookmark" base .
400 bases
Sweet! That should cover me fine then π
. (ignore this, this thread disappeared for me cause discord hid it)
It was un-hidden when you posted this, so ... Thanks!
Yknow I wonder
How are they going to handle future content releases for abandoned mode? It's locked out of most things.
Who knows what changes the future will bring ... All I know is, I'll be there
Is there an easier way to find black holes especially without Apollo?
!blackholeportal

To portal to a region's Black Hole, get an address from a system in the desired region. Then substitute
for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th glyphs in that address.
Can I play abandoned with someone if they're in normal mode? Or do they gotta be in abandoned as well
You can apparently see other players in the Space Anomaly if you "uncloak" them by doing a scan. Once you see the players, you can trade with them and join them. See more details in discussion below.
Confirmed: Friends of any* game mode -- even if not in Abandoned mode -- can join Abandoned mode players, with the likely existing exceptions* of Permadeath and Expedition modes (which are restricted in Multiplayer to their own game modes).
~~
Pending Info: To confirm an answer to your question though, we still have to test joining friends via the title screen MP option.~~
There's absolutely no MP in Abandoned mode.
@bronze dragon Can you help me confirm this? At least that'd been my impression. But @fiery cargo mentioned that Abandoned mode players have seen players in the Anomaly?
If so, wouldn't that be a bug?
yeah we can see other player ships in the anomaly in abandoned mode
but not players themselves
somewhat connected yet disconnected
try hitting your scan button
I don't think this is true
I revised my answer above: #1341068659434586192 message
So you can actually play with / join other players or trade with other players? Because if not, then no, there is no multi-player.
Cc @bronze dragon @fiery cargo In case you guys have any other insight.
I don't, I haven't tried testing it - seems weird to see players in abandoned mode much less play with them
Would be weird if I couldn't play with my homies if they're on abandoned as well
thanks for the reminder! lol i had forgotten i had to quick scan! π @fiery cargo , @proven copper and yeah, can even send items
Not abandoned then
Ah well
I'll suggest removing them, but I doubt it changes. Likely a call back to original "mp"
we'll want to test this out, but iirc player saw orbs instead of characters when they met?
Yeah
I don't think I'd remove mp in abandoned mode entirely
Btw, speaking of this:
Pending Info: To confirm an answer to your question though, we still have to test joining friends via the title screen MP option.
@fiery cargo @bronze dragon @jade abyss two of us still need to test this
-# Also keeping in mind that Bkay is on Experimental branch, which would be a non-issue if save ver is the same I'd guess?
i can test
all on save ver 4184 rn π₯³
well, almost
@jade abyss want to join my game?
sure. so just try from a normal save?
first we want to test abandoned mode, right?
so new save>custom, normal preset, but then turn on abandoned mode
figured you'd have an abandoned mode save already; or did you mean to ask whether i was on permadeath+abandoned?
i dont think i'll do that last combo anytime soon π
i don't have an abandoned mode save, i'll make one
@bronze dragon i don't see you in the joinable game list
sorry, had to logout and log my main to check something, give me a minute
alright i'm in
still don't see it. guessing abandoned mode does not present as joinable
wait, let me try something
back in again, try again?
nada
I can try to get on in a couple of minutes to extra confirm.
@bronze dragon i'll get in to my game, see if you can join me
yeah was just about to say that
@bronze dragon
@bronze dragon lemme get into my normal save and confirm you see it, in case it's a game version mismatch
mm
@bronze dragon now?
just in case
do you have mp enabled in settings, who can join = friends only or anyone?
yeah, not seeing your session
think we're friends on steam arent we
but yeah shoot me your friend code via dm just in case
yeah but i'm currently on ps5
i'm not seeing you on my NMS friends list
YT8P-58TT-GFBCR
okay i had yours already yeah, restart the game after adding friend code if needed
loading abandoned again
nvm
lets try me joining doc abandoned mode
i said "tada!"
lol
lets go the station doc
You show as Normal, you're in Normal mode?
yaeh nevermind, going to you
normal preset with abandoned turned on
nah it just doesn't show abandoned as mode
because it's not an actual preset
and turning it on also doesn't make it to custom
i see Doc just fine π
Have you also confirmed if non-Abandoned mode saves can join? @jade abyss @bronze dragon
nope, wanna try that now @bronze dragon ?
lol ty for the gifts
it did allow me to load my main save
np π right, this character isn't evolved yet so i dont have much, so i'm not giving you big stacks
yeah i probably won't even continue this save so don't drop too much on me π
Thank you, Bkay. Seeing it on my end too. That is very odd. Cc @fiery cargo Even non-Abandoned mode save players can join
@jade abyss what do you need Doc? π
nothing, all fixed π
As a follow-up to this, can we also confirm that Permadeath and Expedition are still the only game modes restricted when joining someone in Abandoned mode that doesn't have those respective game modes? @jade abyss @bronze dragon cc @fiery cargo
expedition i'm pretty sure it's never going to work since completely different mode
cant even do custom expedition atm, so no way to turn on abandoned mode
What about Permadeath? Can a Permadeath player in Abandoned mode join any friend in any game mode that's also Abandoned mode?
no, i don't think that's how it's deciding to let people join each other - it's letting people join each other because they're on compatible "player universes" i.e. creative+relaxed+normal+survival/permadeath/expedition (fwiw)
"Base" game modes are a complicated way to label them, since Permadeath bases are visible to all other game modes (last time we tested). MP != ODS base display when it comes to NMS, sadly; at least not based on tests we've done in the past. Two separate processes.
then think of it as "player universes"
Correct. I just wanted to clarify the "base" label in there. Since base display is a different function that doesn't necessarily correlate to player interaction and visibility
I wish HG made the two systems more consistent to reduce confusion among players.
PD+abandoned, doesn't let me use it to join you guys
Ooh good to know! Thank you so much for helping me confirm. I figured as much but thought we should check juuuust in case
anytime :)) thank you and @jade abyss as well for joining in to check and the patience with the troubleshooting haha
np, ty too π
So the answer to your original question is, yes anyone* can join you. They do not have to have Abandoned mode selected in their settings.
*
Do note that
Permadeath and
Expedition modes are the only game modes that continue to be restricted to their own respective groups, when joining other players, regardless if Abandoned mode is enabled or not.
And as discussed above, you can also see other players in the Space Anomaly if you "uncloak" them by doing a typical scan. Once you see the players, you can trade with them and join them.
-# Thanks again to @bronze dragon and @jade abyss for helping us test and confirm. And @devout relic for clarifying how to "uncloak" players in the anomaly.
-# cc @fiery cargo
Awesome, thanks everyone who figured it out

Its good that permadeath and expedition are restricted to their own universes
Idk how I even figured out the uncloak thing
Abandoned overall has interesting lore implications because text appears when speaking to the one npc left on the anomaly and mentions a "void", the void being written in purple.
Any abandoned players know a good way to get starship upgrades?
Not sure. Depends? What type of upgrades?
To expand inventory & upgrade class, space station.
There's also a starship terminal that you set up in your base. That unlocks basic tech, like the different drives (i.e., cadmium, indium).

you can acquire a variety of upgrade modules from buried caches, damaged machinery, and the base computer archives quest.
Someone also said:
buried caches occasionally drop an X-class module
Yeah. Some players end up doing expeditions from their abandoned save, when expeditions are active ofc, and bring back tech from there.
And you can prob also trade some of the tech you're after from other players too.
It's understandable. The game is ever growing and changing too. Have you been playing those 600 hours in Abandoned mode?
Nahh
Like 590 in normal for the last 6Β½ years and finally tried abandoned lmao
Tryna get the last 5 achievements I need in permadeath abandoned
Nice! Impressive you picked Abandoned for Permadeath given the tech restrictions
i did have to change the resource scarcity and inventory space to the medium settings tho lol
i enjoy a challenge but spending 20 minutes to get one warp drive recharge was agonizing

As long as you enjoy it, that's all that matters!
Misread that initially
How are you able to find ruins to get stuff like sentinel weapons? Since finding charts seems impossible
You Exocraft can have scanners for those things
The sentinel weapons are from Harmonic camps, those you can find the same way, echo locators
I'm probably changing the resource scarcity to the middle setting potentially. Mining the radiant shards for nanites takes quite a while since each one of em is giving so little shards.
I had to change it cuz I was tired of spending like 20 minutes getting 4 warp cells lol
Atp you'd just go a sentinel ship honestly
Would be nice if you could tweak specifically what resources you can limit
Yeah I am
I claimed the iron vulture so I have the 2 s tier hyperdrives on top of my base 850 LY range
Is there any way to get creature pellets in abandoned mode?
Nope not afaik
It seems very oversighty
Even with the "tame fauna" nexus mission?
I feel like that one would be impossible in abandoned mode
Yes - put carbon in a nutrient processor - creature pellets!
I may be stupid
Not at all, if you've never tried it you wouldn't know - it's not like AM comes with a lot of instruction
Theoretically yes .. if you found all glyphes
I claimed that Basilisk MT, iirc from Relics expedition
Do yall think they'll be able to add new content to abandoned mode any time soon
It's kinda difficult within the confines of the mode imo
i think so yeah
If there was even just one way to buy / sell modules, it would be such an improvement
Right now the only way to 'sell' is with a trade rocket, then you just get units for them - and very few of em
apparently fixed with Voyagers update
They didn't forget about abandoned mode, W
Hey y'all how does one obtain a corvette in abandoned mode?
Since the spacestations are outdated
(Seriously, we need justice for the abandoned and pirate stations)
Once the corvette expedition is released, transfer into it from your abandoned mode save - when you finish, there you have it.
Noted, hopefully one day we'll be able to obtain one without needing an expedition
It'd only be useful as a small scale base cause systems with no NPC's cannot spawn missions as far as I know.
Yeah I know, I want it because it's cool, not just usefulness
I wonder if the 'mission radar' part can work in AM
The only missions in the AM are the nexus ones
However they have many unusual uses you wouldn't even think about in normal mode
Not from what I know, I think it requires inhabited systems.
Welp, for all we know the switch version may be different there ... I'm ready to find out ASAP
That is, once it updates ... it's soooo hard to wait, man
Awesome news! abandoned and pirate systems will now have corvette fabricators! (next patch)
@floral crane great news
Wut
Oh
We Switch owners need the update before we can get a patch π
It's taking 5ever
Looking forward to trying it out
Hoping yall get 6.02 instead then
cause if you get 6.00 you'll be waiting a while
I'm sitting here crackin mah knuckles for this, man - I hate waiting
Hey y'all is there a way to get the decorations you get from the scrap dealers? I don't think there is but it would be nice to have
Probably not if the decorations are only sourceable from them.
Come On, Nintendo - press the button already
As of version 6.04, the starbirth mission is possible on AM. Some tips so you don't need to struggle so much as me:
- Always create a restore point before pulsing for an encounter (especially the first one), as the mission may drop in a purple system, and the only way to fix it is a reload.
- Farm glyphs using the "eliminate hazardous flora" nexus mission.
- Get a base on a planet with any fauna if you find one, as it is very scarce in AM, and the animus beam part requires animals.
Thanks a lot for everyone that provided helpful info about it
Yeah farming the glyphs is the most hard way π
Yea, it takes ages, but I found one very interesting thing while doing that
It still needs to be tested as it could have been just a bug, but a nexus mission (the hazardous flora one in my case) may drop you into a purple system
And purple systems (or, at least, the one I got into), have very abundant fauna (as for AM)
Purple system access IS a thing in abandoned
takes like 2 warps to unlock/see the first purple star animation
Hey y'all can we get the atlas tools in abandoned mode yet? Last I checked (and tried) we couldn't
Are you speaking of the multi-tools earned from expeditions? The QS spot in the space anomaly can be used to claim
No, I mean the atlas-themed ones you get from dissonant korvax monoliths
I heard they're obtainable now but I haven't been able to get one
Oh, the Atlantid multi-tools ... I've not tried it yet, so ... sorry
But that gives me a new plan for my morning gaming, lol
I already asked this previously in the help channel, but the answer I got wasn't the solution.
How do I even get the advanced mining laser or any other Multi-Tool, Starship, Exocraft, and Exosuit technologies that I normally get from the NPCs in the Anomaly?
The buried caches on planets don't give any of these... Taking over sentinel controlled factories to alter production doesn't give those technologies...
I'm pretty stumped.
You get all you need from Research Units
OHHHH, so they added new constructable research devices for each other path, not just construction?
nice
yep π
And I thought when someone replied saying that pasted from an AI summary that it was wrong
In this case, the AI didn't lie π
Are people really so lazy that they're using AI summaries to answer a question
google AI says 'YES'
πππ
It's a sad state of society, but, the direction we're going
Just had to deploy a base computer and these showed up, thanks for the help @brazen kraken
Why did this thread re-appear after so long
(I know it will now since I typed in it but it appeared before I did)
Is it worth making this its own channel actually instead of just a thread?
If it was more active, I'd say yes, but as we can see here it's not exactly busy
It's abandoned lol
I'm hearing the trash worlds don't appear in abandoned mode
Not sure how true that is but if it is then abandoned mode players can't do the remnant content stuff.
I can confirm, at least in the S2 version, industrial waste is present and can be processed - I have the gravatino coil installed also
Wonder if they'll add anything to the mode ever again
Corvettes in Abandoned would be cool
They are in, yes - I have one
Where did you build it?
The space stations in abandoned mode have the corvette workshop area
Just a longer walk to get to the ramps, lol

indeed, about time they add at least 1 functional pad - it'd be cool if the other 3 are just broken, damaged, not functional, because abandoned station, nobody's maintained them in ages
I am very glad corvettes can be had in AM especially since there's no freighters
I'm retying Abandoned mode on PC, I have a fair grasp on what I am supposed to be doing, but I ponder how I get upgrades for things such as multi-tool upgrades, ship upgrades, etc.?
Also, has anyone been able to get a Freighter? I do recall in the Adrift expedition (where this difficulty stems from) that you get a Freighter of your own after clearing a Derelict Freighter as an award for clearing that milestone of the expedition.
because its abandoned ... no freighter ...
That makes sense.
I do know there are individual tech upgrades, I was more referring to something like a Mining Laser upgrade for example.
Thats all you can get :
try buried caches, damaged machineries for upgrade modules
Ok, I'll try that out once I get my hub base up and running.
I think it's more likely to get stuff like hazard protection on planets with the hazards you're wanting to mitigate - like, you're more likely to find heat protection on hot planets, etc
There are some research machines you can build in your base, that will let you unlock and craft basic upgrades
Always go to stations whenever you're first in that system
There are these small yellow boxes called salvage boxes and on abandoned mode they contain lots of upgrades
If you play it like I do which is scarce resource gathering and uber expensive purchases its a godsend
||You enjoy pain, don't you?||
I was inspired by the subreddit for that idea honestly
I'd rather play with normal presets, thanksπ
Get yourself a small base or a big base or w/e with a teleporter, throw in a couple of solar panels to power it, a battery so it charges the battery, connect a teleporter, build yourself a ship landing pad and its fine
It really shows how much we take the main game for granted when you can't just get millions easily
Easiest money grind would be looking for multitools since they're free to claim in abandoned, and then just sell em at the anomaly
I've been digging up corvette parts and selling for good money - just gotta find a decent planet to go treasure hunting on
Hello - long time no see π
After a short hiatus from NMS, I decided to jump back into my Permadeath_Survival_abandoned-mode save, and continue where I left off.
At some point I decided to unlock all the junk recycling content, and so I realised that I have zero gravitino balls, and knowing my luck - despite of playing for an hour or two, exploring the planet, I could not find a single one.... (Tried the station's trade terminal too)
So my question is:
- what's the best / fasted method of getting gravitino balls ?
I was thinking: buy the blueprint for the gravitino plant (3 data thingys), and then plant it in my corvette and wait ? (I have the living wall or whatever it is called). ?
My method is this - 1, dig up salvage containers till I find a 'sentinel chart', 2 - use the chart on a dissonant world, 3- deactivate the sentinels there, then 4- grab all the balls, fearing no repurcussion ... might as well grab a few radiant shards while you're there too π
I did not think about that - I'm going to give it a try haha π
This will actually make the proces pretty safe, as I naturally try to stay away from aggravating Sentinels, since I'm playing on PErmadeath haha
Best of luck to you
Is there a way to get living ship moduels in abandoned mode?
The non-NPC random space encounters still happen in AM so it should be possible
Not tried it myself tho
Do you need the anomaly detector for the encounters?
Not sure, but it couldn't hurt to try them
I think they're a good way since you can't get any freighters, just requires a lot of pulsing and pulling out when you see Alien Melody detected on your HUD
You're more likely to get Anomaly Detectors by mining asteroids in red systems.
In abandoned mode, they are also often found in the yellow crates in the teleport room of the stations
