you can always try to quit the game as soon as you die btw. even while there's text on the screen about the death, it offers enough time to close game. so save's not reset. just make sure to save very often for this workaround

i also found an awesome base where someone actually made the most amazing monstrosity egg farm. like omg. i'd never seen anything like it. pure genius.

you can accept them now. and make use of them. they'll give you inventory space for exosuit, multi, and starship, as well as various tech. might as well make use of it all.

2 ways. Use 6 distress maps in one spot. Each one should give you a different type of distress. Thus process of elmination. Save with the ship between each map incase it breaks.
Option 2: find a base someone marked or better yet ||near anchor point 5 has a base||

The trick with maps so you use less is to use up to 6 in a row. Keep using until you get the freighter. Don't go to the location to clear it between each one
Otherwise you'll go through over 15 maps of abandoned buildings like I did lol
The map trick should be pinned for the expedition too. I'll try and catch someone tomorrow.

How to find a crashed freighter
There are likely player bases visible in the teleporter at each space station, which have
"Crashed Freighter" in the name. You can go to any of these.
If you prefer not to rely on others' bases, you can purchase 6 distress signal maps from
a Cartographer at any space station, go to the planet of your choice, and begin to open
the maps. If a map has the "wrong" type of location, DO NOT go there. Open the next
map instead. If a map givesan error ("locational interference"), just spam it again until
it finally gives something. Since there are only 6 types of distress signals, one of the maps
will be the crashed freighter you desire, even if it's the last map.
The Cartographer wants one navigational data per map. You can find navigational data
by looking on every space station for small glowing yellow and blue cubes which sit on
tables and desks; check both sides of the station, vendor desks, and the back rooms as
well. Interact with these to get nav data or nanites. You can additionally get nav data or
nanites from "waypoints" by buildings (the "save-and-chart-here" white columns with
an antenna on them).

you still have plenty of time left, exp can be done in just a few hours if you're used to playing the game (even more so if you're familiar with survival/permadeath)
you really want to rely on milestone rewards, and memory fragments that you can get from them or craft, to upgrade your gear
there will be a bunch of milestones, one in each phase, that will already be completed; if you can't claim their rewards, or they're not automatically unlocked, talk to polo asap

So I just noticed my solar ship is S tier. When I accepted all the milestones it upgraded to B tier but got stuck and never went up from there. It toon a death and restart and accepting the milestones again to see it upgrade to S tier.

It's not actual permadeath, and if you follow the anchor points (via other bases), you can hop to places you need to be, quickly. It is killer for those of us who don't like the appeal of a super punishing death mode. And most of those items are given back 10fold because you get to the anchors faster. (especially if you already are in the habit of making your bases at rendezvous points)

What they're saying is to use the STORAGE pods, don't worry about inventory space. Don't horde because you can't, and if you're worried about playing like normal you're going to die more often. Use the save editor to back up your saves after you hit a milestone if it's that rough. I did it on the hellhouse planet with extreme storms and really pissed off sentinels because I was almost done.

I re-rolled all my tech from memory fragments, including tech for my multi-tool.
i'm kind of assuming that potentially maybe after the community finishes the final tier, tech will become more affordable to buy with nanites. but that's just my own personal theory. that may not happen till the expedition event ends and our saves are converted. thoughts on this @remote thunder?

You can eventually craft your own fragments. It's random what you get, but might get lucky.

oh @remote thunder btw, i just created another new expo save, and sure enough, the freighter showed as s-class yet again. are you experiencing the same? @fringe agate told me that it was s-class for him. so i'm not sure what's going on with that. all my expo saves' freighters are c-class.

Yep. Or my case a 24 hour grind for an S freighter. Because he wouldn't offer me any of them free.
I did it over a week. Some days I spent 8 hours reloading until an S popped.
