#nms-expedition

I need my brother to help me transfer the void egg from my exp 6 save, and then I'll delete that.
Hokay... Time to jump in, I think.
no living ship on any save yet? (sure you want it?)
Anyone know the exact scoop on everything that is obtainable from memory fragments?
is it literally every piece of tech?
Nope, I don't want it, but my spouse wants me to have it. So.
I still don’t have a living ship on any save
Good luck!
rather have a maxed nice ball hauler
Super helpful information in the pins in this channel, look them over before you begin to prevent inevitable frustration
Okay so I got a question. For items that can be unlocked via salvage data, are they obtainable through milestones/fragments or do I specifically need to hunt for salvage data?
There are various paths to many of the blueprints, depends on what you’re specifically looking for
I guess what I want is the electric generator, medium refiner, and standing planter
There's probably more I'm not thinking of but mainly those three
Probably the supply depot and mineral miners etc
salv data and all at 10x the rgular cost...
Also it seems that the emeril reward and chromatic metal I put into the med refiner to refine have disappeared for some reason
Those all need to be purchased
youll be grinding forever, not worth it
Damn
I was so hoping there was another way but now I'm even more sad about that death I had
I worked really hard just to get the refiner blueprint
Some of the blueprints can be had through missions / rescues (distress call) and buildings.
there are no base blueprints you get from memory fragments, we get given some exocraft from milsestones, bc from milestone, some components (quantum computer etc) blueprints from a milestone
But most of the technology ones need to be purchased with data
The refiner bug is still a thing, alas.
Still a thing? Since when?
Since ever
if you try the manufacturing facility route, you need 10 overrides to get one blueprint
they got that covered too

ayup
woof
Once I'm at my ship, should I purge ship audio or trace anomalies?
choose one
Doesn't matter
hokay
Did you see the salvage frigate module costs for freighter upgrades?
By bug, I mean the one where if you go too far away from it, stuff has a high chance to just disappear.
I know it’s all x10 but it’s still shocking to look at
Remember being able to refine unlimited chromatic metal?
freighter upgrade with no hyperdrive? I mean...
I don't remember ever having something like that, though tbf I haven't really left stuff in refiners afaik
Or at least it didn't disappear on freighters
That's been around forever, afaik
It happens on freighters too
Lost nanites that way :/
Does everyone start with the same ship?
have all of the unlimited refiner loops been nerfed?
I did have a problem tho where for instance I opened someone's refiner and went to pick up the nanites, which suddenly disappeared before I could select them
Sounds like an MP issue
Probably is
Seems like I may have gotten a pretty decent one, then...
never do serious refining on multiplayer
All ships are A class right now
ah
all A class now, soon S though
They'll start as S class soon
Yeah you did, nice ship
They look different but stats are the same for everyone
terrible hyperdrive range omegalul
I'm guessing that's normal?
Yep, alas
It's because you have no hyperdrive
I should go contribute for today
I contributed right here in this channel 😛
Welp, time to find the highest cliff in the area.
You can also just fly upwards.
or find a predator and get bit
I failed to suicide by jetpack. too hard
not enough jetpack 😄
It actually takes a surprisingly long time to die from exhaustion
I wonder if I should submit my contributions now.
Pretty sure it hasn't been 24h since the last batch.
Predator is fastest
I think it's when the NMS real time day rolls over, not 24 hours.
I have no idea when that is, really.
Just sent mine to discovery, 354 nanites, lol
For greater clarity, I mean when freighter missions reset
What happens to currently ongoing frigate expeditions when you travel to the core?
I just mean the active expedition
I like how we can still summon the freighter from the other side of the galaxy even without a hyperdrive.
so do I
🪄
No they need one to be summoned
But only enough fuel for 1 jump
In the expedition, they don't need one. The one we start with does not have one and you can summon it.
Yea I don’t know by that is but in a normal game it does
Indeed, but this is the expedition channel
You can’t summon it if you go to a different class system though
True but It’s maybe because we didn’t buy it
just finished the expedition 😎 can i get the role?
@ a mod
Alright
@fringe agate
I'll just wait for the event to end and assign it myself.
Yea but then you can’t flex
You're that opposed to DMs?
This expedition sucks
Oh ok
all im tryna do is get the cape and then I die to something retarded lmao
Don’t die then
Please don't use the R word here. Thank you.
Thanks gleam!!
You just gotta be extra careful, but I'm sure you know that by now
As soon you get off the first planet it gets a lot easier
Oh OK
only one shows but collect all the ones you did anyhow
Glad to see they display in order of recency now 😄
Think I'm done for today. I went ahead and did the rest of iteration 1, and now I just need bedtime
just reached the center in the expedition save, for additional science
reaaaalllly don't want to jinx it but I'm at the last anchor planet and whatever else I have to do.... that's it
Where is Ennect?
Anchor Point 2.
You’ve got this!
Is there a way to set a waypoint in a specific system?
Avoid cliffs
What happens to the bases of players who die?
Save beacon?
Crap, settlement mission popped upon entry to Hilbert
They remain. See the pins for what persists and what doesn’t
In Expedition 7: how do I get the Pulse Spitter ? It's locked at the Anomaly NPC, and none of the memories have given it.
You can only get it as a memory
Or by buying a multi-tool with it pre-installed
I bought a MT with a pre-installed scatter blaster 😄
What is a loop collapse event?
They occur at the end of an iteration. Different things happen each time
Biological horrors came out of the ground, and I ran to my ship and got the heck out.
Bummer then. I already completed almost all milestones.
That was the worst one for me. The second one was also a bit sketch, but that's it.
Ah, that's a good idea. I'll have to station hop a bit to find one.
wait is there a discord role for completing the expedition?
!LeviathanRole
ight thanks
I am at 89% of level 3 in the loop. I keep doing the research quests and recently handed in 6 quest items one of each and a the rest the one for liquid sun. None of that progressed the loop more than 89%. Am I missing something right now?
It's community based
oh wow all this time I never realized that lol okay
holy cow! just got my first s class freighter on a warp. no resets, in the expedition. now i cant get rid of this save
Potentially stupid question - do freighters get reset on death? Ie can I use them to store and "protect" materials etc
The freighter base stays, but no inventory
Gotta admit, this expedition turned out a lot easier than I had in mind. The Permadeath thing worried me, even with some failsaves available. In the end, I didn't need to use any of them and completed the expedition a few hours ago, without dying twice, in about 12 hours total.
That explains why my freighter is empty 😩
Also - the mods I made to it have vanished. Is that because I purchased a new freighter?
If you mean mods installed before you died - those are part of the ship, not the base
Sorry when I say mods, just the base stuff I built
Like a storage room and a command room etc
Your freighter command room disappeared after you died?
Yes, but pre-death I had exchanged for a new freighter and I think post death it recalled the original freighter because I got a message saying something like "the captain is more relaxed after the sale"
Bug maybe?
It would definitely recall the original freighter - might be because you upgraded. I'm not sure, to be honest. I was not the human who did the testing on bases sticking. I will do that today
... So maybe, just maybe the new freighter is still waiting to me in the system I died in full of my whispering eggs? 🙏😂
Alas, definitely not that
I know I'm clutching at straws here, but 20 hours of farming and I got twatted by 5 hyper aggressive sentinel ships and I'm still not completely sure why. So yeah I'm a little bit gutted about everything I lost 😂
oof
I'm thinking next run after I finish sulking will just be trying to get through as quickly as possible
Worth doing for a first run through, just to get the rewards. I'm on my 4th just for funsies and testing
Believe it or not, every time I start that's the intention, but then I get really side tracked: "if I can just get x more, then I can y". I'm terrible for that 😳
I actually totally understand that
None of my playthroughs are less than 12 hours
I finish with ~20k nanites and ~100 million units, which is completely unnecessary
On one save I had collected 180 buried tech before I accidentally hit a creature with a mining laser and it wrecked me 😂
oof
Really need to focus and just get through the iterations
Maybe with a cool ship though. Maybe I could just spend a little time farming that
Heh
I admit I did that
They keep giving me the square sail solar starting ship, and I hate it
Nanites i found hard to come by. Did you get that many from whispering eggs I guess?
Yeah that's what I've been getting around 75% of the time
I like how the memory drops seem to be related. Like I got three jetpack drops together
I've noticed that if you apply them as you go, they'll switch themes
Interesting. Thanks for that
But a lot of the time they give me upgrades I am just never going to use. You can take that plasma cannon and shove it, kids.
On my second to previous playthrough, I got the auto fuelling launcher and the inventory refiner in my memories. That was a great run. Until i died.
personal refiner is the best
I spend nanites to get it if I don't get it in a reasonable amount of time
Yeah it makes such a difference
The one advantage to solars is that they come with a built-in trickle charger. I still dislike their cockpits for combat.
Maybe I'll farm that before I get going
When you say trickle charger do you mean for the pulse engine or the launchers?
... And are some people getting ships other than solars to start with? All I've been getting is one of two types of solar ship
Thank you Brendel. You've taken a bit of the sting out of my latest s.show
I've had round sails or rectangle sails
Sorry one more dumb question
I get that you lose freighter inventory but would you also lose things in the storage rooms usually?
Yes
All inventory everywhere
Evil
We can't protect anything
😂
Chaotic something that's for sure
definitely
I feel like it can't be chaotic evil because they do want us to succeed... But they make it hard on purpose.
¯_(ツ)_/¯
You want cool stuff? Fine. Just start out at the top of this really tall cliff and race to the bottom of it without sustaining fall damage and then collect ten whispering eggs and kill a bunch of sentinels. Without dying.
The whispering eggs isn't bad if you use one of the box builds
and sentinels you can game with their terrible case of building stupids
(they forget how to sentinel inside buildings)
Wrecked-Angle solar here
I made a base and uploaded it called “EV‘s easy eggs” one of my friends already used it. There are like a dozen egg bases now
also, I teleported to one that said “minotaur, resources, carbon”, was nothing but a base computer on the steep angle of a treacherous hill. Pure
I do wish people wouldn't upload bases unless they're actually useful. I don't need to see someone's milestone base that's just 15 flags and a computer.
havent played the expedition yet but why would someone upload that
Literally dozens of people have uploaded shiddy bases
It’s kind of sad
I'll probably end up doing that, but it makes me feel a bit dirty using glitches and exploits to get through. Takes the shine off the achievement maybe. Or maybe I'm overthinking it
for some reason they think they have to upload the base for the milestone
even though you could literally delete the base after placing the parts needed
I deleted mine
I don't really think of that one as an exploit. That's just using knowledge of where they spawn to your advantage. It's not really that different from jumping onto the roof - you know they won't go up there just like you know they won't go in/out of the box
Useless base
Yeah, I go back exactly 0 times
If there were teleporters it'd be different
Ha I did try the roof jumping with my first attempt at the eggs. Couldn't get up there and started panicking so I just legged it.
It's the accepted way to farm those outside the expedition. I mean, ymmv, but I see it as less of an exploit even than glitch building, which is at the bottom of the exploit scale in this game.
Finally finished the Expedition...thanks to whoever built the nipnip farm in the starter system and the larval core maze 👍
How does ones manifest loop memory? It keeps saying local loop strength too low.
Do I need to do it on the anchor planet?
Is one of the anchors a derelict freighter?
The waypoint took me to a derelict freighter.
You do need to do a derelict freighter to finish the expedition
But it isn't an anchor point
I don't like combat. 😰
The freighter in the Anchor 5 system doesn't have much combat. There are a few jellies and a few combat drones. No biological horrors.
Just make sure you have a lot of batteries 🙂
This is Anchor 2.
Why is there a duplicate of my character's helmet floating in the entryway?
Ah, you are experiencing a rare event
You don't need to do that derelict
You can leave
I have thirteen Ion Batteries and three Thermal Protection Units.
What event?
It's very rare, but you can happen upon someone else's freighter while pulsing
The mandatory freighter doesn't happen until you're on iteration 5
(are you on iteration 5?)
Iteration 2.
In that case, this one is not mandatory
I can't speak to what you'll find on it in terms of combat
Freighters vary by system for both. In the expedition, they will all give you somnal dust in addition to the usual tainted metal
All freighters have a gravitational anomaly
Would this count for the later mission?
It doesn't seem to be doing anything...
This one will give you things to turn in to Polo
Land on the anchor planet, then
Doesn't seem to do anything then either.
How possible is it to nope out of there if things get too dangerous?
You may need to hit it twice
If you're already in combat you may find it challenging.
For a first time freighter, I'd have a look around and see if there are signs of infestation. If there are, leave
I'm in my ship wondering how likely it is I'll be soiling myself.
What signs?
I hit it a few times, still nothing. Am I just on the wrong part of the planet?
Pustules on the floor & wall
I've never found derelict freighters before.
You're sure you're on the right planet?
You can't usually just find them - you have to pay to find them
It's incredibly rare
Alecapae Beta, yeah.
Have you tried a reload?
Not yet. Will do.
When I did mine from the atmosphere I was right above the anchor
You may need to be beside it
Oh. How do I find the anchor?
Oh, have you not been to the anchor on that planet yet?
Its coordinates are Lat/Long: +19.42, +56.57
I believe you do need to hit the anchor before the doodad will work
I'm still on wake the past in iteration one
what
Warning of severe incident placing the freighter on lockdown, a teleporter, and some Repair Kits.
The game said to warp to a different system to use it... what the heck
It lied 😠
You always use the memory thinger at each anchor planet
Then move on
And
Be prepared for an adventure when you do (move fast)
Yeah.
They all say this
That's Anchor 1
First log mentions an experimental surgical drone.
The logs are mostly flavour. They'll tell you a story
Second mentions immortal jelly.
One of them will give you credentials that you'll need later on
oh
The first one did.
In that case, the logs are just fun reading from now on
I don’t enjoy the flavour of derelicts
What happens if I depressurize this capsule?
You get some goop
Safe?
Seems to have been an infection or outbreak?
I think losing an entire iteration to a crash is more irritating than death
There are different stories
The mandatory one is unique to the expedition
Yes, it's possible for there to be no combat
Weapon good/bad is a matter of taste
the scatter blaster is excellent for close combat
It's bad for anything ranged
FESTE4INH PUSTULES
walk around them very carefully
if you see any big ones hanging from the ceiling, don't move if they turn red and pulse
You are probably better off leaving
One's front of the door.
Not that you couldn't do it, but I'd hate for you to lose your iteration to biological horrors - and they spawn if you hit a pustule
Yeah, that red thing on the right is a nest
but they will both spawn horrors
the last freighter has pustules on the floor, but they don't spawn horrors - they give dust
What does the teleporter in the airlock do?
Will it be possible to return if I leave?
Well, I got 2 Somnal Dust, 9 Living Slime, a couple thousand Units, 3 Repair Kits, and 29 Tainted Metal.
Even the infested ones aren't bad once you're used to them
Especially with a scatter blaster. I just wouldn't do that for your first time in a perma save
One down, four to go.
Don't forget you don't have to do them in order
Well, 3.9 since I got to 1 million units way before the game intended lol
the maps to sentinel pillars drop from the glass, right?
They can. The reward for killing 20 sentinels is a map, though
And the other guaranteed place is from a walker
just got one from examining ten glass on repeat (the reload trick)
thanks for the info, though
Wait you have to explore derelict freighter for expedition? I thought only crashed freighter
It's one of the scrambled objectives
And it's a specific one, so you can't do it early
Damn. Is there any way to not get attacked by those alien mite things? I know they hide in the weird glowy things
What the other two scrambled objectives?
They're spoilers
All I need to know is are they super difficult compared to the other objectives
They're very easy imo
The freighter is the hardest part, and it's one of the easiest freighters I've ever done
That’s somewhat good to hear. I’ve only died thrice and I’m playing super carefully now…
If the last objective scares you, just remember that I said it's easy and don't lose your noodle. It really is.
That makes me worry I’ll be honest….
Oh well. I guess I don’t need to worry about until i get there, IF I even get there
It's designed to scare you, but that's all it is. A scare.
I see. I only play Creative and a super casual normal save, so here’s hoping that still applies
||You die at the end. But you don't lose any of your progress. They just scare the crap out of you.||
Click or don't click 😄
Ohhhhh. I see. I remember reading that in a guide on the expedition somewhere. I thought you meant another objective/mission
That is the objective
It just has a different name
Break the loop, or something like that
Oh. But that’s not difficult really, so freighter one is probably hardest?
And then you get the whale right
Freighter definitely the hardest of those, yes. And it's one of the easier freighters. Jellies and drones. The pustules are just full of dust.
Oh really? No biological horror things?
That actually really relieving
No horrors. It totally looks infested, but it isn't
That’s good to hear
I’m judging by your knowledge you’re one of the few so far who completed the expedition?
3 times so far
Wait. You completed it three times? So like three saves?
That gives me hope. On phase 3 rn
How can you do this expedition? I really love the living freighters or whatever you wanna call them. This expedition just seems rough
Living freighters? What? You mean the whale frigate thing
Hey - just wanted to let you know I did some testing and freighter bases do stick. Not only do they stick, but the missions I sent my frigates out on continued. No inventory, though.
@drifting helm yes.
It helps if you have a little experience playing survival, to be honest. If you don't, then it's helpful to know what the differences are and spend a little time getting used to them before you go to a rager of a planet like anchor 4
It’s rough, but play carefully and you’ll be ok. Going well for me so far
Think normal mode but more expensive
Also, your minotaur is a great friend - make use of it
^^Yes
Ahh thanks
Depends on your preference, but maybe play single player rather than multiplayer, that way it’s a bit easier to pause the game, plus you can also reload a save instantly if something goes south
yeah, think of it this way - you can either reload if things start getting sketchy and lose a few minutes, or be stubborn and start from the beginning.
Just remember that you have a save point - use it often
And playing in single player is much, much safer in this expedition 🙃
Yep 👍 ^^
Is anyone able to help boost me thru the expedition? I can help you in return. I work too much to finish it in time
There's 4 weeks left and ppl have finished it in 4 hours. You still have lots of time
Oh wow 4hrs? Guess I'm used to the old expeditions
Or I just play way too slow
I mean, that's pro run I guess. It took me 17 hours 🤣
Fair enough lol
Every loop can I reclaim the rewards from last loop?
Idk how to phrase it
I'm not sure since I didn't die. But from the one necessary death, I did get back all the modules
needed a break for cleaning the house and making dinner/meal prep but it's done.
fun expedition
No, alas
You can reclaim the optional milestone rewards and "iterate/repeat" from Iteration One, but everything else has to be done over.
There's a pin on what persists
once you uhh do the thing its no longer permadeath right? just survival rules?
Once you complete Iteration 5, it's just survival, yes
lovely
Actually, I think I didn't even lose my inventory when I test died
I'd have to retest
kinda want to hang out in this expedition save I like it so thats great to know I can use a jetpack again
braver than me, my 2nd death was to a firestorm sending me to the moon and from then on I was shook
getting caught a few more times in storms, thankfully inside bases, cemented that
ooh, those firestorm + windstorm events are rude
That's how I got the reckless title (which is still one of my faves)
like, I can ride that fine in my normal save, but dang did it hurt with like 0 tank and no air recharge to flutter through it it was just 'oooops there I go, and there I went splat'
I admit that I'm very, very cautious about how far I boost with it, and where
I did once, unwisely, eat a blue boost flower and then boost away, failing to notice that I was just about at the top of a mountain. So I crested it, and there was a cliff below me, and that was the end of that save.
also I just love sending my initial frigate on a mission with the dang Normandy and a Leviathan... the crew on the dinky little boat has to have serious jealousy going on
have to assume they'll keep bringing back old expeditions as a treat and that one was dirt easy so you'll get it one day
I hope they do
now to find a nice calm planet to retire on and farm memories/set up a base/found a settlement
or maybe not, would be swell to revert nanite costs once it's done but I guess I can farm those out too just gonna have to be a pretty big operation
still playing this expedition to grind out the universal loop progress for everyone
I kind of like shooting up deposits for liquid sun
And I don't mind the derelicts either. I am not a fan of the animals though.
liquid sun is fun to grind, honestly
@indigo falcon In the course of my testing I found another persistent thing - your character customization also stays.
If only it didn't burn through sodium quite that fast
yeah, but that's when you load up a ship with sodium from either flowers or just buying it from stations
I'm surprised no one has duped it to oblivion yet
pretty sure each individual player can only submit 20 times that count yeah
gotcha
Speaking of freighters I was surprised we started with one
I was surprised it could be summoned without a hyperdrive, but 🪄
lol for real
Kinda sad that, when adding the space whale frigate to my fleet, I had to dismiss another to make room for it.
Anyone know a great way to farm for Salvage Data? I need a bunch so it can research the geobay
The fastest way would be to run around a planet that has salvage data readily available to excavate. Missions take too long and may not even offer them as rewards.
The costs for researching during the current expedition are inflated, so don't invest too heavily into some things.
Yeah they are!
What in the world is “A Dreadful Wailing?”
Wanting to upgrade a good bunch of things so that I can convert the save at the end of the expedition
Anyone remember which is the starting planet for the Leviathan expedition?
That’s the pin tells you everything
Awesome. Thank you!
Np
Spoilers for the ending of the expedition ||I guess the expedition turns from a perma to simple survival right?||
the save isn't really perma. it will turn from current expedition mode to survival mode tho.
i want it to become my survival save so it's cool
correct. diff from all prior expos
I will prolly use that as my survival one as well
and the one before this was pretty different too... starting in a galaxy other than Euclid
I speedran the last 2 expeditions.
6 hours on the blighted and 8 on Leviathan. Slow as hell but still. Managed to do it.
or maybe it was the one before that, not so sure now
I’m curious, if you get whale frigate do you have to replace an old one? Mine are S-class in another save….I don’t want to replace if I don’t have to….
Also what is the whale’s specialty as a frigate? Any specialty perks?
Yo the leviathan took me 5 hours
How do you get a frigate
Idc about the class I just want one because I wanna go nomadic
uh - frigates don't help you be mobile lol
Just go to different places n fly out n sometimes freighters will pop up and then green signs will pop up n those are frigates
Frigates don’t send you places. You send them places
Ohhhhhhh
I think they meant freighters
That makes sense
Wait
So freighters? I see
Those are like space bases basically
Do I have to build those or can I like yknow steal them
You get one for free after warping 5 times and having 3h or more played
It’s like a giant space RV
Is that the easiest way
Well, you could find and buy one, but they are very expensive
Expensive yikes, doesn’t sound good for someone who just started playing
Depending on class anywhere from 35m-200m
this expedition is not intended for players that have never played the game before
I found this S Class Explorer but it’s all broken and buried in the ground
Should I repair it
If I can
I don’t think I’d be able to
What ship did you start with?
You mean you got S-Class ship in expedition?
The tutorial one
Or you talking about normal save
it's technically usable once you get the pulse drive and launch thruster repaired
Normal Save
Ah
I found this on a diff planet on an entirely new system
don't necessarily even need the shield
Oh. You ought to go to #no-mans-sky then.
It’s not that hard to get a crashed ship going, but it really depends on what you got, what you need, and the planet conditions
the planet is in a firestorm
rn
and the computer needs an atlas pass
i saw one of those in the anomaly
I'd repair the launch thrusters and pulse engine so that you can get the ship to a station and scrap it. Then you can use the credits to save up for a new ship.
I haven’t started a new normal save in forever, so I don’t know what it’s like to start recently. Only the expeditions, but those are pretty different since they give you some stuff
You could always take the ship and fix it later if you really want it
(I think you can still have more than one ship without a freighter)
WHAT THE HELL A HUGE WORM JUST CAME OUT KF THE GROUND
🙂 welcome to No Man's Sky
the worms are good for a nice little scare the first time you see, or rather feel, them
even more interesting if you happen to have sound on
You might even be able to tame your own one day 😉
Yes but I’m sure they will re-run the old expeditions time and time again
wouldn't bet on it
I feel like they will at least once a year or something, otherwise you could always get an egg from a friend
Alright, 500 more Somnal Dust in the tank, time to hit the hay.
If they reran all the expeditions every year, at this rate we'd run out of room in the year to not have old expeditions running by 2023-24.
Hahahah the cost of things in this expedition
amazingly high
is that on purpose or is perma death like that?
it's deliberate so that we don't just buy all the stuff we need to be comfortable but rely on memory fragments instead
ah I see. it is kind of fun.
Actually farming those broken machineries gave me more stuff
😄
oh wait a minute! who do i contact to get all my roles I completed all expeditions except this one
so this expedition and the one where we were stuck on the planet are my favorites
I somehow completed this expedition without dying besides the first one
Where do you get Leviathan role?
I've done the Expedition once on Steam and once on Xbox PC so far. I've been going to crashed ships on the starting planet. I got the economy scanner that way. You can also get other tech that way. On a Vy'Keen planet I try to visit minor settlements and the NPC's there will sometimes take your multitool from you and give you another one. Usually broken. I got 2 A 24 rifles that way when I started one of my permadeath saves. They're usually not hard to repair though.
Unless they had them overlap
see pinned messages about how to get the Leviathan role
for the other expeditions, they are self-assign in the #roles channel I believe
Instead of a shorter length of time to play each one sequentially, have 8 weeks where you can play all of them
At this point people start off with A class mt and ship so no need to hunt for that now, the crashed ship advice is good though
Each one appearing in a submenu following the selection of the “expedition” option
I usually get a crappy pistol with no slots on it so I try to get a better rifle if I can.
if you have 2.2 million units (I think that's the cost): outlaw system Sklanedysn X/"Diplo Where", 70LY from Cebrac-Eliwyn has an S 18 slot rifle in cabinet at the station
Since I"ve finished the expedition on Xbox I've found a nice S 19 solar ship and a S 34+9 Sentinel freighter just out looking around for a paradise planet. Still haven't found the paradise planet.
Thanks so much. I'm going to keep that in my notes in case I do another save on my Xbox Series X.
What kind of paradise planet?
once you have access to an outlaw system, smuggling your way up to some weatlh isn't too hard (lbuy, go to anomaly, go from there to any reguilar system, sell, repeat...)
Just a nice one without steep mountains.
I mean, there seem to be several aliases for Paradise. You can find bountiful worlds with calm weather.
yeah I know but, the one's I've found so far have had storms on them.
I'm pretty sure it's harder to find actual paradise planets on permadeath. The ones that don't have storms. The way I look at it is all paradise planets are lush planets but, not all lush planets are paradise planets.
DM mod with screenshot of expedition tab
Which screenshot are you referring to?
Weather is generally worse in survival/perma, though you can find true paradises as far as weather if you continue to hunt.
The one with the phases. The last screen will show completed
you will probably want to ask in #nms-lfg-or-trades for that, but be patient, the channel can be quiet at times
Yeah. I've got a paradise planet on my normal save that I have an activated indium base on . On my survival save it has extreme sentinels.
You mean this one?
That's my Steam save
Yes. You can post on #nms-photomode-gallery and tag a mod or just PM a mod
I'll post it on #nms-photomode-gallery
!leviathanrole
Oh that’s how you get it
Now I understand why you asked me to post the picture. I didn't know about the Leviathan role.
@hushed oyster I guess I'm suppose to tag your name when I post a screenshot in #nms-photomode-gallery that the Expedition is completed.
I did above
and in #nms-photomode-gallery
Thanks. I don't look at things like that much.
🙂
Please make sure to remind players to tag Moderators when posting their screenshots.
Two that were posted didn't tag anyone.
I just happened to see them by chance.
ouchie
Thank you
I was probably sleepiing then...
and might actually spend time doing irl work today / this week, heh
awww sorry, Apergos. didn't mean that to be directed at you. just the channel in general.
people are being told to just post in #nms-photomode-gallery but we need to be notified. they can DM too.
folks do not check the pins, for whatever reason, yeah
@wraith venture More of a suggestion but maybe consider having Gunter posting the response every hour or so

will do
But yeah IMO it's up to players to look for that info, not staff to feed it to the chat
oh hey Friendly 🙂 I'm gonna close the discord and only pop in from time to time today so
!LeviathanRole does ask them to tag. but they don't seem to read that either
does ask them to tag. but they son't seem to read that either :CS_cry_Kayo:
No surprise there
Can I just say this expeditions mechanics besides the death resetting was a blast to play through now that I am think about it, like I love the fact you get memory fragments as upgrades and plans from the expedition rewards as instead of buying them at space stations and learning blueprints from the space anomaly, such a different way to play.
I loved it
it makes me so happy when i read these reviews tbh
i'm happy that HG was daring to try something pretty unique in their new seasonal content format that's expeditions. and they also got to address the wishes of folks who wanted survival and/or permadeath expo game mode
The bugs and glitches in multiplayer was what almost got me not to finish. Then not having the ability to get some of the things I normally use in the game the way I normally get them was something I didn't care for.
I can’t understand how succinct this is. A lot of us have long since burned out playing normal mode / late game, but this was a complete breath of fresh air.
To me just simple things like the economy scanner or the personal refiner. Even the prefabs, extractors and power.
I actually really liked that it forced me to change my playstyle in different ways
Oh, I got an economy scanner from a technology module around anchor 2
That’s another thing I think is amazing about this mode, the experiences are so variable between runs
I've been starting permadeath saves lately and deleting them after a few hours. The only thing I changed was to disable multiplayer to minimize bugs and glitches.
I got the economy scanner on the starting planet after visiting a few crashed ships.
Back around beyond I lost an 83 hour Perma save to falling out of freighter bug
Oh and learning the blueprint for memory fragment crafting for upgrades, that's a serious new mechanic there too!
I also fought every freighter battle and all the Pirates I came across, so much suspicious technology
Though I doubt many people did as much warping
I lost a 100 hours save that was going really good. I even had a S class long Venator freighter. I thought I was safe at a galactic trade terminal in a trading post. Wrong. A tornado sucked me up and slammed me into the side of a mountain.

Where are you inside a safe area?
Apparently there’s no such thing
Yeah. I just started another one to get over it. I was at the trade terminal at a trading post.
It’s really harsh when it’s not any of your own actions caused the death
Going to try and make it to Eissentam on my expedition save tonight
That's why I don't get too serious with my permadeath saves. I tend not to have over 100 hours on any of them. I put most of the hours on normal and survival saves. I've got over 2k hours on my main normal save and probably a thousand hours on my survival save. I'd have to check on the survival save. It's been quite a while since I've played it.
3k Hours? Impressive
BRO I thought the milestones would save after death so you wouldn't have to get EVERY single one again.......
Overall I've probablly got over 4k hours
I know players that have twice the hours I have though so I'm probably in the middle of the pack for hours.
I just spent 8 hours trying to do the expedition just to die before the last few and lost all the progress
Fun Fact: If you played NMS for 16 hours a day (assuming 8 for sleep) since release, you could have 33,904 hours
Welcome to the club, was that your first (real) death?
Ya
Just so you know the video contains spoilers. Saying that though this video is from BeebleBum and gives a good strategy for completing the Expedition. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWjhSPxj38w
Having your Progress Reset every time you die during Expedition 7 can be a real PITA! In Today's Guide Beeblebum will show you the best way to play the Leviathan Expedition and Break the loop! This is the best way to start your save!
Subscribers Goal for August 2022:...
Ima go to bed and try again tommrow
Sometimes you break the loop, sometimes the loop breaks you
Good morning, later today imma continue my expedition and hope I don't die again lol
I'd rather contend with the loop than being a Gek.
I'm gonna have a look at a spoiler free tips video to see if there's anything useful
I died in the final freighter.....
Every OOF procedural
This is my final straw
I WAS GOING TO DO A MANUAL SAVE BEFORE GETTING ON IT BUT I SAID SREW IT I NEED TO GI TO BED SOON
No memes please @static willow
It would have reset anyway
BeebleBum even has that covered. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JtDr1oOrY7A&t=8s
In Today's guide Beeblebum will show you the location of one of the easiest Derelict Freighter in this Expedition 7. With only 7 Rooms, this is one of the quickest ways to finish "A Shattered Past" Milestone. More No Man's Sky Expedition 7 Leviathan Guide here:

______________...
Lol
I did that one myself.
Stack of batteries, go slow.
My derelict wasn't bad at all
Until one of the doors won't open and you can't complete the derelict freighter.
Then you reload 😄
Drones, turrets, and a few jellies
The derelict in anchor 5 is pretty good
Yeah, I did it in Anchor 5
I just went to the derelict freighter BeebleBum had in his video and it worked out good.
I did this whole expedition blind, but that might explain why I died so many times. kek
Anchor 5's is very chill, one of the easier ones I've done unless your only weapon is a scatter blaster
I did it blind too 😄
The first expedition save I warped to a neighboring system and did the derelict freighter there.
I did random ones in other systems for dust, and they weren't as nice
but
scatter blaster
24 slot rifle on an outlaw system 50ish LY from the start with a preinstalled SB
Ight well night fellers
Im a bit scared for the goods smuggling badge
I usually use the scatter blaster. This time I used the boltcaster. I don't know how I did it but, with the upgrades I had I've never seen the boltcaster this powerful before.
Its a new mechanic and im just mow returning, overall this expedition seems really easy
buy your lewt, summon the anomaly, teleport to a regular space station
no authorities, just sweet units
What loot
contraband
Do I need pirates or anything?
Ahhh, there will probably be one in the anchor system for that badge
Alternatively, if you go grab some nip-nip from any of the player bases and sell that, it works
I got a surprise on the first expedition save. I raided someone's geknip base and went to another system to sell it. That got me the achievement for the contraband.
I grabbed that on loop3, but on subsequent ones I got the Hyperdrive module and didn't bother. Now I've portaled to two known systems to get an Experimental and an Alien, need to grab a royal, and then I'll turn this pistol into a Core jump sacrificial
The second time I did it it didn't work
I think Nip acquired from grow time glitched bases doesn't count
Outlaw stations are in pirate controlled systems and none of the anchor systems are pirate controlled
I do feel like some of the cheater resource bases are destroying the experience for new players tho
I don't remember where I got the first geknip I just was surprised when it worked.
waves his fist in the air at item duplicators
It's a lot easier now than it was at the start, but I can't be mad at it since not everyone enjoys the pain of this game mode
I do think it's funny that this is the expedition I've run the most
Im probably gonna need the scanner, on top of needing the mino mining+cannon
You'd have both fist in the air waving them if you knew how I got my S 34+9 sentinel freighter on my last expedition save
Thats a bit of nanites, but ill have enough after the freighter easy
Considering I only had around 14m when I went in the freighter after the freighter battle
One anomaly I went to the was a guy giving out a stack of AI valves to every player who came through
You know everything costs 10x more?
oof
50,000 nanites for paint. Whee!
I know, i think ill need 3-5000 for the economy and the mino bits total
Unless the economy scanner is stupid high
I mean, if you go to a resources base to grab some, that's one thing. But forcing high value items on new players is just low
you'll get the minotaur upgrades from memories; I wouldn't waste nanites on them unless you're really impatient
I duped enough so I could get an AI valve to dupe it but, almost no ships came in the space station. The one's that did maxed out at around 15m so I couldn't get an AI valve from them.
Everything is 10x cost, Med Refiner is 100 salvage data!
I havent been, isnt that rng
120 nanite upgrades are 1200, lol
Some memories are for exos
But everything in this exped is rng 😄
RNG can really make or break the expedition
But the nanite costs dont seem too atrocious, that isnt salvage data
I got all the mino upgrades each run
All nanite costs are also 10x
they're literally 10x the normal cost
Alright well again
I didn't use the mech or nautilon either time I did the expedition.
By all means, go ahead if you have them!
6k nanites for S class modules
I'm sure those are legitimate nanites in your pocket there
lol
One of the ways I like to get nanites is scanning all the creatures on planets.
I have got nothing but crap upgrades so far, so I have many™️ nanites
Well for the mino its like 3-4k nanites like i said
I also spend a lot of time being piratical and converting units into nanites
Something that surprised me is how crappy some of the A class upgrades are
Do they sell for normal prices in outlaw stations?
I dont know for the economy scanner, but i should get a few thousand from the freighter and id imagine that will be enough
What do you mean?
Let me try again while being less of a jerk. Where you would normally get tainted metal, you mostly get somnal dust during the expedition
They really do not want you to have nanites
Or certain weaponry
Though why they didn't take the otherwise restricted items out of the RNG for fragments is anyone's speculation.
Maybe we were too harsh? I thought the Beastie Boys reference was good tho
I'm a gangster, I'm a prankster - I'm the king of the Ave.
I'm hated, confrontated for the juice that I have
All the fly ladies are making a fuss...
*But I can't pay attention - 'cause I'm on that dust
Of all the S class ships to fly in while I'm looking for a different ship... Ugh.

Also, lol
You won't get shot up, but you also may not be able to run away.
I actually contemplated making this an 'ugly ship' run, and just finding the most atrocious ships for my fleet
boost speed for ships without upgrades is actually the same
I can't see coordinates in fighters & solars and its annoying
Grab one of those ugly af asymmetric explorers
Oh, I don't care about boost - I care about maneuverability
Constant stick down and left
boost for running away
run... away...?
PC
I also hate looking for coords when I'm in ships with bad cockpit vis
from pirates or sentinels
One of the few advantages of console / controller play
There is a key for it, but it's so unintuitive I regularly forget what it is
Though they hosed the build system for us in favor of PC players.

I actually play the game on both PC and XB, kek
tested the other day an maneuverability doesnt matter for me if im playing with mouse
Alt
ah yes, right you are
Free look is much wonkier with only one stick (mouse) though.
true i dont even know what free look is
With a controller you can adjust your trajectory and simultaneously free look, on PC it's very clunky feeling.
moving your camera without affecting your trajectory
looking around with your right stick or holding Alt on PC
I do it all the time in MMOs but it works completely differently here
I have one, but it didn't even occur to me to try
I can't imagine it being great for anything other than the flight bits
Yeah, and even those aren't traditional flightsim style
But it might make combat and planetary flight more palatable on PC
Depending on the HW / assignability
I haven't used that joystick since I stopped playing E:D, and that's been a couple years
I have an adaptive controller (made for people with disabilities) for XB and I was thinking of how to adapt it for NMS.
i think mouse is superior to help with aiming in space battle (specially since it ignores maneuverability and mouse is just more precise)
maybe harder learning curve though
It's basically an open ended interface that accepts any kind of switch (you can use a guitar pedal for instance) or even a vacuum activated switch (for people who can only really use their head an mouth), really cool stuff.
Saw a quadriplegic dude gaming on an XBOX using only his head, basically. Wild
That's super wild
Hmm, headless Jack's head in NMS!?
Connect switches, buttons, joysticks, and mounts to create a custom controller experience that is uniquely yours.
I agree with you about the mouse being better at aiming. I've just played NMS so long with a controller I don't think I could do it on a keyboard. I do play Scum with mouse/keyboard though.
Really cool of MSFT to make something inclusive for less abled gamers.
laughs in Wing Commander 2
I'll only be here from time to time today... passing on a message from the backscroll, when people ask how to get the expedition role, please remind them to ping or dm a mod, just posting the screenshot isn't enough. (anyone lurking in main or help channels, same there too). please pass it on as other experienced folks come in, thanks!
Enjoy your sanity time!
heh my work time more like, but ty!
"Non NMS time"
"life"
Sleep, kek
can i get the expedition role?
Post a screenshot of completion and ping the "Moderators" role
!leviathanrole @smoky meadow
@smoky meadow
nevermind i dont like pinging anyone
It’s really OK, it’s just a role, and it’s part of what they do. 😉
What do we do with the memory items from the anchor planets? Just hold onto them and waste ing space?
Slap them in your freighter storage
Boo
They are LORE
if you’ve got a complete expedition save, make daily contributions to help advance the tier
Polo must be fed
might do it now just for the last push lol
Doesnt that just make the memory drops better for people doing the expedition though
Nah, make these newcomers play with c class modules
Upon completion ||the game is no longer in perma and acts like survival mode re: deaths||
Unless theres an end redeemable reward
All the fragments will upgrade
There can be only one class in the game at any time
So anything in your inventory saved up will convert to S and maybe eventually X class
Though I think that last part is just speculation if the community goals are reached
I halfway want to keep the expedition save and use that, but it feels too easy and no story missions
i am not sure why im doing the expedition again my reasoning is to get a decent starting survival safe with S class stuff but i already have a survival save like that xD
You don’t really need it
Everything can be upgraded, purchased, so much suspicious technology, lots of X class modules out there
I just tell myself I'm doing it for science. I test new things each time I do it
im actually doing a speedrun, just gotta figure out optimal routing
I wonder if we will still be able to construct a new memory fragments after the expedition is over
Or if those items will just be removed from the game
im guessing they will just become unobtainable
Hold on to that Chrysonite, folks!
what's the fastest way to get stuff for Polo?
Go to a planet and harvest
harvest what?
liquid sun
or ancestral memories if you like milking animals
I find liquid sun faster
yeah last time i did ancestral memories and i thought it was faster
i did it on the starting planet though thats has a lot of hills
Yeah, and there are a lot of animals there too
what about somnal dust? could it be faster?
That's weird - so should I be reporting the fact that my freighter reset to default?
I tested with the default freighter but that shouldn't have made a difference
Maybe it reset because I did the part exchange thing where I spent a couple of million units
meh, lesson learned
I wouldn't have thought it'd make a difference, but who knows
I'll test that on my next run
when I go back to the freighter I have now, when I speak to the captain, it gives me the text to suggest I sold that freighter. Says he is more relaxed after the sale or somesuch
I haven't tried actually using the freighter yet, will do when I get going again
He is more relaxed because he just gets to be a captain now instead of an owner, all the owner responsibilities are now on you. This is expected flavor text.
Ohh, that text. I misunderstood
every time I’ve swapped freighters, including in this current expedition, the base reappears as built. Would suggest reload if it went wonky.
We were talking about failure of the freighter base to stick on death
They generally do
I just experienced a sort of game crashing build bug inside my freighter… doh
I tested that today, and mine did.
(handy way to "save" some magnetised ferrite too - build all those storage rooms you don't actually need)
I would expect nothing you built (on a freighter) would stick around in this expedition past death, until after
lol, I think that title belongs to @indigo falcon
I love learning about these hybrid modes.
Got my Anchor in Hilbert set up, about to find a portal and move on
nice
Are derelicts and the scrap dealer the only ways to get repair kits?
such a grind, can’t decide which is faster for these jumps
Maybe some minor settlements can sell them
what are the repair kits for?
Repairing broken technology
You can get them from outlaw stations
if the vendor doesn't have them, the suspicious goods boxes will
nah i meant but what do you need them for?
Oh cool, I have like a bunch of suspicious goods packets, I think a full stack saved up from killing all the Pirates
You can use them to repair broken technology pieces
Whenever you ||go through a black hole or go to the galactic core, it ends up destroying technology in your ship / multi tool||
Instead of applying materials (like when crafting these), you can apply a Repair Kit
||just buy some basic ship and multi tool for the galactic core jump||
Yeah, ||sacrificial ship & tool, but you still need to repair the ship somewhat for the next jump||
you can trade the old ship for a new one, seems faster than getting repair kits
x255, kek gek kek
Acquiring the hyperdrive modules would be a PITA
there is no easy path
||It only breaks things that are in general, and you don't need more than what's in there to do the actual core jump||
wait ships dont come with hyperdrive modules?
They do once you've done the milestone for polo
|| I thought you needed like 1700 range for the core jump… 6 total modules. I slapped all 6 on||
I don't remember needing that much
also ops i just got 38 memory fragments, i think i overdid it (and 13 emergency broadcast receivers)
lol
you dont need any range for that xD
rookie numbers :3
lol
Are you getting 2K freighter runs?
||i just afk hitting the monitor||
Are we actually missing anything without having the atlas or main quest?
I just rebought the game for ps5 and started again
Not really, and the Artemis storyline is supposed to become available as soon as the expedition is over
You can do atlas currently
Ahh, if this is survival then Im half tempted to make it my main and go off to a random code somewhere
I see this expedition as having a multi faceted purpose for HG. A lot of users got daunted by having to go gather all the glyphs, and a completely different set of users wanted a perma or survival expedition.
Well wait
wait didnt a milestone give you the glyphs?
I think one of them did
Yeah, you get them in iteration 2
They are supposed to go back down to survival mode costs
“Normal prices”
Thank god
Its funny cause i havent played in a year
It’s a lot easier with the Minotaur
And now those are the only prices i know
||would be nice if they went back to normal after breaking the loop||
Theres really not even a need for any data afaik
||Who says it’s broken? || 😉
Continuing on
True, i might just switch to a normal survival save from scratch after
I was gonna only do to iteration 3 but its fairly easy and doesnt seem time consuming to do all 5
you can just keep this one going as a normal survival save
|| once you have completed the expedition, you are basically in survival mode, no more perma|| @hearty gate
We did the
How did you get so many?
this, here is a video ||https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUVvFMwH8fs&ab_channel=MachinaAurinko||
Loop progression to the moon!
ty
Omg that’s so cheesy
TBH I don't see any value in that method given how inefficient it is
I'd rather do the normal derelict run, collect the Dust and get other loot alongside it
What is the good loot from derelict runs? I've only played it in expedition. Is it the tainted metal?
Yes, normally the tainted metal
Yeah but I dont want my main save for a month to have 10x salvaged data costs ☠️
well on the expedition only loot i want is Dust so that method is very effective
setup time is fast and i can go do something else while its doing its thing
You can get Larval Cores to refine to nanites, Hypnotic Eyes for the same purpose, Salvaged Frigate Modules for freighter upgrades, high tier trading items to sell to different economies for nice money
And the last terminal lets you get Cargo Bulkheads to increase the inventory size on your freighter (general or tech)
Or various upgrades to freighter and frigate stats
In general, derelicts are box where you put in units but take various goodies out
I recently just found out larval cores turn into nanites, I sold them before 🥲. Now I find out about hypnotic eye
Is there any other use for eye? I think I just saved those
How do they become nanites?
