If you keep the scorched thing active it’ll still lead you along the expedition path. It will however alert you to a suitable planet when you warp into a new system. There is one on the expo path but I can’t help you with which one sorry. Look for comm bubbles on planets, usually means a good spot.

baits mostly just give increases to size and rarity, magpulse for storms, shadow for night fishing dnagle for diurnal and bionics for legendaries but experiment and see what gives best results

There are some easy to make bait that are very good, almost as good as the lures

For stormy, scaly meat is probably easiest

Crunchy caramel has slightly better stats and isn't hard to make

There are a lot of things that are 40+% rarity. Processed meat is easiest. Seafood stew is easy and 51%. Some fish cook to Whole Roast Fish which is 44% or Grilled Fillet is 43%. Shell puree is 48%. Bionic lure is 64% for comparison but attracts legendaries, I haven't seen anything else that does this, but maybe some of the more complex cooking recipes do

I think if you are fishing to complete the catalog, bionic lure or seafood stew are the best options I've found. The nice thing about seafood stew is you can keep making it with your bycatch

What are the benefits/downsides of starting an expedition from an existing save vs. a new save? I've only ever done them on new saves before (currently working on Phase 5 "Scales of Fire") and never even realised you could do it from an existing save until I read the subreddit a bit.

Well, going from an existing save, you can copy in a multitool and ship for around 3k nanites, plus take in 24 stacks of items and 8 pieces of tech

And that Nanite cost is paid in the expedition, so it's advised to take in a stack or two of Runaway Mould, a Personal Refiner MK2, and a full stack of stuff like sodium, oxygen, and carbon or their improved versions

How do I get to the Anomaly?
After the first warp, go to the space station, exit your ship to create a restore point, then head back out of the station and check your quick menu.

Where do I do the "message from the Angler" milestones for each phase?
Do them on the rendezvous planet for that phase, at any body of water, fishing with no bait. The rest is rng. If you catch a bottle, open it, if it just has a junk message, don't worry, keep on fishing.

Where do I find a scorched world for high temperature fish?
Rendezvous 2 planet (Odeg in the system Syasthe).

Where do I find a frozen world for cold temperature fish?

How do I do "Scales of Fire"?
Be on the rendezvous 5 planet (Cayett Major in system Biychiem) and fish at any body of water. It is unclear if any bait is useful for this milestone. It's just rng.

How do I do "Fins of Thunder" (3 fish that only appear during storms)?
Any rendezvous planet will do. Wait for a storm and then fish. You may want to use magnapulse bait, which increases the percentage chance of catching fish that only appear during storms. Note that other fish caught during a storm will not count for this milestone. For a planet with more frequent storms, try Eotirai in r4 system Zaresvet XVI (boggy planet, Noxious Gas Storms) so you don't have so long a wait between storms.

I can confirm through experience (just now) that if you convert the expedition save to a normal save (I started a new save as the expedition) the Skiff keeps its full 60 slots and contents. I've saved and reloaded and it's still like that.

There's a rather useful base on rdv2 (Odeg) that provides shelter and a pier with a hole to fish thru. '100kg / storm fish' IIRC or something like that.

You could also set it to autocatch in difficulty settings. You'll no longer have to reel the fish in yourself, but only cast. the game does the rest.

it may be that deeper water has a better loot table but I got a couple in shallow water so who knows. random fishing, never set out to get enormous ones specifically. you can use a bait that helps with size (see pins) if you like

If you want to quietly troll your skiff over to a new fishing area, simply summon the skiff to a new area while aboard the skiff. It will slowly glide over to the new location. Slow and quiet so you don't scare the fish away.😄🎣🐠
