Abandoned Buildings, Whispering Horror eggs

I know I seen some on the starting planet

I hate how they despawn quickly if you dont grab them right away after breaking the egg, basicly gotta get one, run, wait for swarm to subside, and repeat

I made a Bolt-Caster just to kill the annoying predators, I swear the spawn-rate was bumped up just for this expedition

though i did tame one as a companion so it could help kill em

Same thing happened to me. Once you cross a certain milestone it seems to revert to the basic research unit. After that you have to get into space, travel to a different star, and then call the Anomaly. @fossil token

I did this expedition years ago on console. I remember because I could never forget how headache inducing the "mineral extractor" quest was. It was still annoying, but I just slapped on a wad of biofuel reactors, and an hour later I was done.

So much of this expedition really can be done on the starting planet.

Besides the mineral extractor, there was one other annoying thing.

An hour. An entire hour spent building a large refiner, accidentally destroying it without knowing that materials in it get destroyed too. All this to finally realize that magno-gold is created in the INVENTORY. GOD DAMN IT

That was pure hell.

Quick PSA

1. ALL planets have Larval Cores, you just need to find an abandoned building, to find abandoned buildings the easiest get Distress Signal maps from the cartographer at the space station and keep using them until you find an Abandoned Building
2. The starting planet Has water it’s just very sparse, you may need to look for a while. If you pin the module you need to repair and have a magnetic resonator on you the visor sweep will point you in the right direction when you get close enough. You can use Photo Mode to scout for water.
3. You get the recipe to craft Magno Gold by completing “The Industrialist” milestone, to do this you need the survey device and mineral extractor, find a mineral hotspot with the survey device place the extractor then wait for the timer to finish. Recommend doing other milestones while you wait.
   (You can technically also make a large refiner and refine it but that’s objectively a worse option)

Holy guacamole this. I was literally going to reset my expedition because I couldn't find any copper. Good thing one of the quest rewards is chromatic metal. Once I had the minotaur I could go for longer distances to finally get copper

For The Industrial milestone you need to first install the Survey Device (blueprints are from a previous milestone) you then need to use the mineral survey mode with your visor, when you find a hotspot place a mineral extractor on the spot and wait a while.

If you've created a base, you should have the plans for the Construction Research Unit, including a bunch of salvaged data. You can buy the schematic for the large refiner there.

If you are on the same planet as everyone, go where terrain gets the lowest, you'll find water there. I had luck, fell down into a water cave with my minotaur and there was a crystal sulphide geyser in there

Just because there is one easier way to do it, the way I suggest is the worst? it's in no way harder than doing the industrial milestone at all. Just gather mats (which you probably have already) throw them in a refiner and job done.

You can buy them from the first planets trade terminals

Make sure the water you are in is deep enough that your minotaur sinks completely, then find a cave inside the water and turn on analysis mode, you will definitely find 3 crystal . If you can’t find a cave then start burrowing under the water and your scanner should start picking up

You have to find one of the abandoned outposts and grab them before the monstrosities get ya.

Once my ship was up and running, I just flew around for about 5-10 min and scanned the surface until I found one. Easy peasy lemon squeasy.

there are instances, i'm not sure if they're enabled for planets. so what your friend said could very well be the case. if you friend each other ingame / group, you'll get to the same instance
i think text-chat is system-wide within the same instance

"server" is the wrong word, since a server is describing a physical machine doing stuff. a server could run several instances, or several servers could run a single instance. but that's deeply technical on an architectural level, so "instance" is the better word

i think i can even make this a bit more plastic: a server is basically what your computer is, just with a different purpose (hardware can be the same). imagine you're on a single planet. the most you need is graphics power, which the player provides. the requirement on the server is much lower, since you only need to send some data, not graphically render a whole system. so a single server could service dozens of systems simultaneously when they each only have one player, but the more players per system, the less instances can run on a single server

think of it as tabs in chrome. if you open too many, your computer doesn't like that. if a website is flashy and uses more resources, you can open less tabs before you hit a limit

there's a planet with visible water, and you can get distress signal charts from the station cartographer (which have a 15% chance for an abandoned building, but from what i've read here, that seems to be guaranteed if you activate it on the station / in space), so you need some knowledge to get certain things, but the larval cores and sulphite is for warping iirc, and the station and water-planet are in-system, so you can go there after the launch thruster and pulse engine are repaired

if you're stuck again, check other milestones. also: check other milestones for easy gains. there's a few "scan X of Y" which is easy aside from the creature one, because that requires water creatures. things like "hover in the air for 16 seconds" are easy because you can do that easily during a storm

I got lucky on the sulphide too. I spawned about 500u away from water. That and a transmission tower for the habitable shelter milestone at about 600u. Definitely sped things up.

i don't think the pilgrim is faster in this case, at least when you take storm-travel into account. the mino flies faster and slides faster, and it regens the jetpack to 90% while you're sliding (unless you're traveling on upwards slopes)

my "issue" was magno-gold, which can be gained the same way (or crafted later on), got one from a random buried mineral formation, then went to water and didn't figure out where the vents were, but harvested the crystals. jetpacked 10 minutes into one direction, got frustrated, returned, farmed same crystals, got 2nd magno-gold, dove, found vent

It's super smooth on PS5. If the Switch was all I had to play NMS on, I'd be good, but being used on a much smoother experience makes it a torture. Took an hour and a half longer on Switch to complete the exp than on PS5. Even without any trouble getting the things I needed.

I got the PS5 hooked up to a 65" 4K HDR tv. Hooking up the Switch on the same tv is a downright mess. So I hook that one up on a 27" 4K HDR monitor. Less of a mess, but still bad. lol

You can try disconnecting from the internet and changing your clock back to when the expedition was still live before loading that save. Back it up beforehand just in case (even though if it doesn't work there's not much else you can do besides save modification)
